I'm a huge hawk fan but I'm tripping so hard that he was able to do that curved handrail in the house what that was wild for anyone honestly. Especially someone who isn't as street oriented.

He recently just came out with a pretty extensive "street" part on the Berrics I think. He rips still and he is in his 40's so for people to claim he sucks at street are just wrong considering his focus is vert.

Tony Hawk did more than any other person to promote skateboarding and get it the recognition it deserves, and next year in Tokyo it will become an Olympic sport. The man is in his 50s and still skates (very well), and his son Riley is a beast too. Tony has dedicated nearly his entire life to skateboarding, and I'm glad he was able to make some good money in the process. I personally would like to give a sincere thank you to Tony Hawk for his dedication to this great sport.

Well the thing is selling out is going against your beliefs and principles for money. So when most people point at someone for selling out, they’re really not selling out. Selling out would be if someone who didn’t like smoking, did a commercial for a cigarette company. But if you think Doritos are cool, then there is literally nothing wrong with being paid to promote them.
@jasonadams7991
@jasonadams7991 5 жыл бұрын
Yep, and anyone who called him a sellout would have gladly taken the same opportunities and commercial deals as he did. If Doritos came to me and offered me a ton of money hell yes I am taking that deal. I'd be the sellout because I don't eat Doritos lol but financial stability is really nice to have.

exactly. If it goes against what you believe in, or it’s just something you don’t like at all, that’s what I would call selling out. If you’re doing it because it’s something you actually like, that’s not selling out. that’s just doing what you love, while having the added benefit of earning some extra cash.

Jenkem core af. I low-key used to hate on Tony just BC I was in to street and I was a poser rat boy. Once I started skating bowl I learned to appreciate him so much. He's one of the largest influences in skating. OGs like Andy Roy, Phelps, Daewon rodney etc can't be forgotten. To outsiders looking in this was consider the pinnacle of skating for such a long time and in twenty years skating will b even crazier. What started my journey was Tony Hawk underground 2 my aunty patty gave me for my 10thbday I still skate and would hopefully like to as long as you Tony. RESPECT

To be fair, most of the money is finding its way to building skateparks around the country or at least helping to get them funded. People look at it as selling out to sell Bagel Bites and Doritos, but I see it as using mega corporations' advertising budget to add visibility to skateboarding and ultimately fund more skateparks to grow it. Skateboarding doesn't have to be some hidden activity, as long as the ads depict real skateboarding and not William Spencer nonsense or mongo pushing longboarding I'm fine with it. I'd rather Tony Hawk be in an ad than some poser that's been skateboarding for a week trying to represent it to the world.

FUN FACT: I met George Clooney in a very obscure little bar in Phoenix Arizona called Merc Bar (at least it was obscure at the time). It had a tiny little neon sign outside that just said “BAR” with a martini glass. Anyway, I saw Clooney there and asked him about Batman. I mean, talk about embarrassing. Batnipples and all. And his answer was “I had ten million reasons to do it”. You can’t argue with that.
