Try to imagine the whole process from start to finish of what it took to get us to this point. Somebody , many centuries ago conceived & created the Harp. It then must have taken years to work out the harmony of the strings in order to make it sound so wonderful . We then learned to write & read music, which was phenomenal. After all of this, we needed an inspired composer such as Debussy to produce this masterpiece. Finally, we have a beautiful player who has practiced for years to bring this incredibly emotional & heavenly sound to our ears. Incredible..💚
@Julia_Coelho_Music
@Julia_Coelho_Music 4 жыл бұрын
Why see it as a "progress-process" to culminate in something beautiful? There is nothing wrong with Medieval and Renaissance harps, they are beautiful per se - sound wise included - and not merely "a step into something greater". It's not about being better or worse.... It's simply different.
@WolfeTone66
@WolfeTone66 4 жыл бұрын
xJCOELHOx ...I see it as a “progress process” because it’s a matter of fact. No musical instrument ever created could play by itself. People had to learn & get better ( progress). Music needed to be written & then played by the musicians (process). At no point did I say there was anything wrong with Medieval & Renaissance harps. I speak in general about how everything comes together to create this lovely piece.
@Julia_Coelho_Music

@@WolfeTone66 I am speaking specifically about harps here - there is often an idea that the smaller, early harps, are a something underdeveloped as a mere tentative step towards complexity. To me, I'm in heaven with both - modern and early ones. (It has always been my favorite instrument, to say the truth).

John Adamson, a Chinese saying that is really appropriate is that the only certainty is that everything changes. Today may not be a good day, but tomorrow is under new management. So basically know that it will improve, it has to, its the universal law, if there is dark there must be light. Your good times will come. Debussy is the icing on the cake.

@helenholmes3530 4 жыл бұрын
@@dvntpxnic. You are so welcome! What is that saying, "don't let the buggers get you down". It seems my life too has had many a dark time. What kept me going, and still does, apart from the fact that I am reeeeally stubborn, is that all of life has a reason and purpose. I tell myself something good will come out of this, whether it's understanding of myself or that my experience will help someone else when I come out the other side. Nothing we ever do in our lives is a waste, not one thing. If our experiences nearly destroy us, what we learn from it will surely save someone else's life, purely because we came through and helping someone through similar is what it is about. Using our experience may take years but it is never a waste. I will tell you something, if we were not strong enough, we wouldn't have had that experience. And how we come out the other side may seem obvious to us but not to others, so this life is a school in an unstructured kind of a way. Knowledge cannot always be read from a book. I really hope this helps you, because believe me, someday the rewards you will receive will be awesome. Just know that a kind word or action, doesn't have to be a big thing, maybe just a smile, will light up someone else's world. I understand that the first thought is why me? Instead say, ok, bring it on, I will find a way through. Whatever is happening to you it may be your job to succeed so that you can pass on that knowledge to someone who may not have your mindset, not be as strong as you. Just think then whenever that occurs in your life, day, weeks or even years later, how great you will feel that you had that experience and have saved another's life. Love and Light to you.

The two arabasques are written mainly in a diatonic way, and their rather linear writing makes their transcription to the harp easy.

Carolyn well most days it doesn’t go out of time too much but every so often it gets wayyyy off. Especially with weird weather changes! How often to you tune in the south? I’m in the midwest
@harpfully
@harpfully 4 жыл бұрын
@@audreyh5981 I tune basically every time I sit down with the harp, which is usually more than once a day. On humid days (and we have lots of very humid days) I'll need to tune in the middle of practice too because humidity changes throughout the day. For performances you have to be even more dilligent. The main issues are the gut strings, as I'm sure you know. But also I have an older harp that apparently must have an issue with wood warping with humidity, because the bass wires and even the nylon can do funky things.

Chapter XXXI - Agency of Evil Spirits The connection of the visible with the invisible world, the ministration of angels of God, and the agency of evil spirits, are plainly revealed in the Scriptures, and inseparably interwoven with human history. There is a growing tendency to disbelief in the existence of evil spirits, while the holy angels that “minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation,” [Hebrews 1:14.] are regarded by many as the spirits of the dead. But the Scriptures not only teach the existence of angels, both good and evil, but present unquestionable proof that these are not the disembodied spirits of dead men. {GC88 511.1}. . . Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 9:6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any [thing] that is done under the sun. 9:7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.

Every time it surprises me how difficult it is to perform, how precise the performance is, what deux arabesques there were that forced Debussy to create such a complex piece of music, what imagination could create it, how much work and sacrifice it takes to play like this. It is all shocking...Wonderful, perfect performance
