Jenluv i love you and your channel, ive been here YEARS but i have to say FACTS when facts are being ignored in reality because peoples feelings are hurt. 12:52 If youthforia or any company were a korean brand, they aren’t going to make shades that will not sell. I would think it would be reverse in countries in Africa where white people make up a small portion of the population. House of Tara is a Nigerian brand, all of their shades are tan or deeper AS I WOULD EXPECT. Its the same thing with smaller brands like youthforia. As much as people do not like to hear this north america is a predominantly white and tan country. I don’t know the percentages, but i would say that deeper complexions make up less than 20% of the us market. Companies cannot always afford to formulate (and when they CAN they usually DO formulate more shades) a wide range of shades for deeper and sometimes even lighter complexions. Its not about racism like Jackie Aina is always saying, its about business and the bottom line, money. Its why i still cant find my shade sometimes, because im too fair. And its why the best solution has been around for years, mix in drops that do not alter the formula too much. IT STINKS i get it, but its not something a company should have to apologize for, imho. And i am sorry if the facts hurt peoples feelings, because it DOES stink, but that doesn’t change the reality that the majority of consumers in N America are tan or lighter, meaning these shades get made first, with more undertone options because they sell more.

My dad owns a small business making cleaning supplies. Like microfibers, dusters, scrubbers ect. His packaging used to be a yellow lime green. Maybe 7-8 years ago he got a cease-and-desist letter from Libman to stop using the color lime green. Their color is two different shades of green for cleaning products. Not to mention Scotch-Brite and swiffer have lime green products. My dad had to spend thousands to change all his packaging to a teal color, which no one at that time was using for cleaning products. Big companies go after small companies all the time.

Jackie makes so much sense. Thats always hot it goes, there is always like 15 light to tan shades and then 3 or 4 'dark' shades and it is really sad. She's right, if there's a limit on the number of shades you can release at first, then spread out the range of color more between them all.

I don't think someone can trademark/copyright Grunge, I think if this had gone to an injunction this would have no way a judge would have approved this. Nonsense in my opinion! This isn't the first time Shroud had an issue like this. I certainly would never order anything from this company or owner. I sympathize with health problems and personal emergencies, but I find it really hard to believe that in six months she couldn't make even one Instagram post or have a friend or family member post for her. It shows a level of disregard for her customers that I can't get over. This definitely feels like a "when someone shows you who they are, believe them" situation.

I got an email from Shroud, too. I was sent a defective palette, so I let them know. Next day I got a response that a replacement would be sent asap. Got an email that the shipping label was created.... and that's it. Never heard a thing till recently where they said they'll send out the replacement asap.. again 😂 oh, and she said she had an emergency. We shall see what happens.

I agree with Jackie's perspective on the YouthForia foundation. I'm a pale girl, so I don't know for sure, but isn't it more challenging to formulate for darker skin tones? Why not start with those and then pull the amount of pigment back until you have a range that is inclusive?

I doubt it. It's probably more likely that most cosmetic chemists and color scientists have never been asked to make darker, flattering shades before 2018, so they assume it's "hard" and they refuse to do it.

Unfortunately the darker shades just don’t sell as well either, I don’t know what it’s like in other countries but in the uk the darker shades are regularly on clearance. But the answers not to leave people out, but don’t release complexion products if you can’t afford a full range of colours.

I’ve always been hesitant to use pastels. This palette caught my eye when I decided to take a chance on pastels. it's s about business and numbers -- not feelings. If a small brand released a foundation where the spectrum of shades were proportionally represented, can you imagine how many unsold stock of the deepest shade they'd have? Holding small brands up to the same standards that we hold huge conglomerates like Revlon is unfair and it leads to less entrepreneurship. And while I love Jackie, didn't she release a candle called "Soro Soke", a slogan associated with the Nigerian movement against police brutality, and refer to it as an "aesthetic"? The Blend Bunny situation reminds me of the frivolous Foodcourt lawsuits. In foodcourt they are usually class action suits that go after deep pockets. Judges have caught on and most of these frivolous suits get dismissed. Shroud broke trust and may never recover. Saying nothing until now is unacceptable. In my book, saying nothing is unforgivable. I ordered Nightshade with Nueva Vida and Silent Night. I am looking forward to playing with all three. Thanks Jen ❤

I agree with Jackie 100% on this. The youth foria brand owner's apology sounds a whole lot like blah blah blah and bs! This seemed like a deliberate attempt to increase sales. There is no way that the shades of the model versus the box versus the actual product was not a deliberate attempt to deceive. I find that disturbing! It's one thing to not include darker shades, that happens all the time unfortunately. It's a completely other thing to pretend like there's inclusion and lure a consumer to purchase a foundation that absolutely wiill not work for them. This is, without a doubt, an integrity issue!!!

It is not just dark tones. People with cool olive tones and cool undertones are SOL most of the time. I have ONE foundation that I don’t have to mix with anything (RCMA Liquid Foundation in G210). Everything else is too yellow, too neutral, too warm, too pink. We don’t exist.

@@kagitsune Alex just did a full video on this last week or the week before which is where I heard about AF! She also does comparisons of other brands and a couple are really good including one from the drugstore. AF isn’t expensive though really, I mean drugstore is fairly comparable. However one of the drugstore she did is almost identical so depending on your formula needs and preference you could go either way. But check out that video it’s soooo helpful and comprehensive as are all of Alex’s videos ❤️

So about the foundation, it is really easy for them to take a midtone light shade and manipulate it with very little effort to become multiple believable shades for light skin tones (though in reality they don't actually match for light skin either but it's workable). It is much more difficult to manipulate a dark tone without altering the colour in ways that render it unwearably unnatural in colour. My honest suggestion to ALL people is to look for brands that aren't inclusive there are brands made for and by POC, find and support them and if you are on the super pale to the point of see through side look to the Asian market (Western cosmetics apparently doesn't grasp low pigment saturation 🤷).

I'm very curious about your take on The Body shop. I stopped by my local mall this past Sunday and the store looked half shopped, like they closed mid shift and all merch still there but with the permanently shut down sign in the front. I'm so sad! One of the employees was such a nice person and I've been shopping there for almost 5 years now and they was always there! I posted the question about what happens to the merch in the Reddit thread and someone reply that all the merch will be cleaned out and thrown away. I was almost hoping to find the merch layer on at a Tj Maxx or Ross bur I'm afraid that's not going to happen. Now I truly feel for the employees and the very short or no notice they might have gotten from corporate about their store closing. That's just bad business practice. And my husband (been in retail for over 30 years) has the strong opinion of, if that's the way a company treats their employees, they don't deserve anymore of our money. Like I said, I'm very interested in your opinion Love your weekly videos!

I normally wear the lightest or second to lightest shades in foundation and based off of that picture I could probably make at least a 1/3 of that shade range work for me. Fair skin is not the norm either, until last 5 to 10 years I could never find a foundation light enough. Especially in my skin tone. I have great skin and just went without, but sometimes you need a great face, with some foundation. Sometimes I get so excited, but can't find a shade to match in a new release. It's very frustrating.

Yup, not all that many options for pale cool toned people. I got tired of not being able to find the right match, so now I buy custom made foundation from a company called decypher. It’s amazing, and I highly recommend the brand. They custom make each bottle for each person, so it doesn’t matter how light ir deep your skin.

We dont know what was happening with Shroud Cosmetics behind the scenes, but I think the only reason for them to ghost everyone is if the owner was in a coma, had a complete mental crisis, or something of the like, and was unable to create a post or organise for someone else to create one on their behalf. I dont wish for anything like that have happened and im glad the owner is on the mend, but unless they were incapacitated and had no physical way to inform their customers, I think it was a little unprofessional.

I think it was a LOT unprofessional! I know what it's like to run a business as the sole owner/employee. It is ANATHEMA to me to take a client's money and not deliver what was paid for. Or if there is a delay in supplying service or goods, to not communicate those delays as quickly as possible. Social media makes it easier than ever. Even if an owner gets completely incapacitated, that is why many of us who've run businesses make contingency plans! This isn't a case of...oh, a health crisis came up, falling out of touch with people in one's personal life, and explaining the reasons why six months later. The Shroud owner has conducted appalling business practices and it shows a pattern of behavior, given how many people ordered palettes in years prior that were severely delayed with shipping and the owner could have been better at communicating then. I'm almost curious to do a deep dive and see if there were issues like this before the rebranding from Strobe to Shroud.

I ordered the Dark Academia palette when it was released in Nov...then received an email on Dec 13 saying that it had shipped athough it never did so I did contact my bank a couple of weeks ago and they arranged for a refund. I had tried emailing Shroud and sending them messages through Instagram but never received a response.

I get that they might expand colors but.. why would ur boxes have lighter shades than what is in the box? And why not say coming soon on the online pics cause none of those colors matched!

I understand brands not being able to push out tons of shades at once as a small brand. But like Jackie said make sure you create a variety of shades first from very light all the way to deep. And then later you fill in the gaps in between.

I'm certainly not accusing this brand, but the influencer/company Let's Do Makeup in El Paso TX might be worth some research. But she doesn't have a current palette for sale, just very small biz & highly branded toward grunge.

It wasn't a lawsuit, just a letter asking them to stop what they're doing or they *might* sue. Anyone can print those out and mail them. I doubt they would try with a huge brand like Huda, they'd get laughed at. I wish BB would have just ignored them, they're ridiculous.

My cousin went through this with quiksilver in the late 80’s early 90’s. He owned a surf company and the name started with a Q. They threatened to bury him in litigation for years costing 10’s of thousands possibly 100’s of thousands in lawyer fees. So he ended up closing shop cause he couldn’t afford to fight them.

I loved shroud I bought the hallobean palette loved! But when I bought their new highlighters it was bad. I got it broken 3 TIMES I emailed customer service I asked for a refund didn’t get one and they kept sending me a new one but each time was broken. Emailed them again never heard back I was so sad but after that didn’t want to buy from shroud anymore

I am greatly surprised that the company going after Blend Bunny Blend Cosmetics, didn’t go after Huda Beauty for her Grunge Palette last year. Is it perhaps because that company wanted to go after Blend Bunny because they’re smaller? Thinking perhaps Blend Bunny would be easier to win against in court? Bears some consideration.

Jackie Aina said it very well, and I think Robert Welsh did also, when he spoke about the same topic (I don’t remember which foundation he was talking about). He said, as a professional MUA, you don’t need ten shades of pale in your kit. You take a few shades of every undertone and depth and mix if you need to. So, what these companies are doing is crappy. If you can only put out a few shades, you divide them up, so everyone is represented. And to misrepresent the darkest shade? How did they think they could make that fly?

I'm personally really disappointed in BB's response caving to this copyright troll! BB just came to a Canadian retailer for the first time a few weeks ago, and previously their expensive $30 shipping from the US stopped me from ever purchasing from BB directly. The Canadian site had the last few Surge palettes and I really wanted to snag one, as it was the main one from the brand that I always wanted. I went to check out when they were released, but sadly I was too slow and missed the Surge. So I went to buy Sugar and Grunge instead, as it was next on my list. But that one also was clearly very popular for the Canadian customers, and also sold out immediately! However it was a consolation that I knew S&G would return, I planned to buy it the very next time it was in stock. I signed up to be notified and the Canadian retailer also obviously believed it was coming back. Then this happens and BB makes this announcement and cuts the palette off immediately, even though C&D's have no legal force. I totally respect the owner's need to protect her peace, but that seemed to be the only thing she based this decision on. I wish she had thought more about her customers, especially the ones outside the US, and at least given a bit more of a lead-up if she was going to discontinue. Maybe one final restock, including her international stockist, before getting rid of it entirely. I know it could be said that this palette was out for a long time and I had a lot of time to buy it, but I really couldn't with her shipping prices. Anyway, with the disappointment of losing the Surge and the S&G back to back, I just feel very negatively now and kind of don't want any of her other palettes. I was so grateful they finally got a Canadian stockist, but it just is such a letdown that it hasn't helped me get either palette I wanted due to the short notice of the discontinuation. Clearly this palette was very wanted & desired in Canada, since I was unable to get it during the first stock.

yeah no i don't fuck with shroud anymore. i got the creepy cute palette from them yonks ago, loved it, no issues, but i tried to get my best friend a gift from them back in november last year as well, and it's still on 'label printed, awaiting item', no other communication from them. fuck that lmao. got my money back via paypal but if this is something that keeps happening, i can't justify trusting them at all.

I got the Sugar and Grunge on sale 🎉. My first from the brand. I don’t love giant palettes, so have been waiting for a 12 pan from them. Couldn’t resist the discount though. About Youthforia shade range - it’s one thing to release a shitty shade range, but to advertise it as having deeper shades than you actually offer! And to sell a shade that is NOWHERE close to the actual product! That’s more than an “oops…sorry”. Really bad business.

Shroud was problematic before, too. Let's remember all first batty bean collab and how long it took them to ship that out. Also, it gives me vibes that the owner does not take all brand thing seriously enough. Things happen and discent thing to do would be to close the shop for some time, make some kind of announcement that due to peraonal issues (we don't have to know the details) shop will be closed for 3 months. Orders will be shipping in 3 months' time or refund the orders. What shroud did was extremely unprofessional, and I would never support them again. Sometimes, owners of indie brands forget that we are not family and friends, we are customers, and this is not book club it is a business.

The name mistake is actually IMO a super cute one. The name could have easily been auto corrected to something else but for Galleria to be what it corrected it to is a precious mistake. I 100% would assume that is one name she would happily accept being mistakenly called.

This wasn't the first time I've heard a brand say they were releasing darker shades in the summer because people have a winter and summer shade. They're out of touch with the reality that some people have deeper complexions all year round. They don't acknowledge anyone past a medium tan complexion. It's a shame.

I don't know for everyone, but as a "white"woman I also hate that we have so many range options back in the days I knew my fondation was fair.... Now I have to look for my undertone, and they have different name, with numbers or whatever... too lazy for that, I'm just using the same foundation or bb creme, Jackie is so right and we should all have 4 shades for every skin colors to my opinion...
