Here's something that maybe not a lot of people know. Lisa herself does not actually make the artwork, she hires other illustrators to draw them, then gives feedback for revisions. I feel for the poor illustrators who got stuck in the middle of all this. I would know, I was a designer for LFI in early 2019. I've been afraid to speak on the topic for fear of retribution, but none of this surprises me.

I worked for a subcontractor in Tucson AZ that was doing some renovation work on Lisa Frank's home. That lady could not make a decision (and stick with it) to save her own life. Something as simple as a bedroom closet took MONTHS to design. Once we finally got an OK, we'd submit plan changes for permitting and once we finished the closet and were ready to move on to another part of the house, she'd change her mind about the closet and want to make changes again. Not only was it a HUGE waste of time, frustrating, etc, but at the end of the project we had to threaten to sue her to get paid.

What is the difference between contractor & subcontractor? I suppose each company has their preferred way of billing. Maybe it's because my father is a foreman, journeyman carpenter & have worked with him in his insulation company with my brothers. I was always told to give the quote when you go to first or 2nd viewing of the location & idk the money always came the first day, and every day after but I'm realizing now it just happens just like any other business. Well as we all know the factory was closed for years but everything inside and out it was pretty much abandoned. Huge bear statues and all. So in the past few weeks we have been hearing rumors that there has been maintenance being done on the building. And now we see the painting s are bright and colorful again. Also Lisa Frank posted on Instagram a video with the teddy bears enjoying the view of the building and hinting that the company is going to be opening again. I guess some of the legal issues have been settled and this may be the reason it will be reopening soon. I never got close to backing this project partly because long before this I swore off Kickstarter due to a similar reason! I backed about £20? for a game and I still don't have it, and it's been over a decade now. The game wasn't actually finished, it wasn't even started (the implication I got from the original campaign was that it was somewhat done considering it had an expected release date). For two years I got updates about it. I don't actually remember what the name was anymore because it's been so long. I had some okay backing experiences prior to that, but I just can't justify it now. At least it was a relatively small amount of money compared to this, and it was a digital thing not a physical product you can use and hold. I think of it as spending £20 to learn to not trust everyone who seems trustworthy, especially back then when Kickstarter was quite new and there weren't many stories like this of people getting the bad end of the Kickstarter stick. I would rather have that £20 back though...

I want to say there's a video of Lisa Frank herself giving a tour of her vault. Crowd funding campaigns that have more than 4-6 SKUs are awful. Promising that many products with different timelines is just so tough. Also, the Ipsy bag and Hot Topic reeks of needing more cash flow before the KS. I bet they undercharged for the KS products. Also, they should have been doing pre-production on the palette designs before the KS! This whole think reeks of people who have no manufacturing experience.

It absolutely sounds to me like Lisa Frank had 0 to very little actual involvement in this entire thing and they lied about being directly in contact with her to manipulate backers into being more trusting and inclined to pay them more, and to blame any issues as being something on her end instead of theirs to play up the “were really doing OUR best and WE care about y’all, but theres nothing we can do cuz were waiting on HER for XYZ to be done 😢”. Ill also bet they promised the artwork/wallpapers before even asking for approval from LFI, and upon being told no where provided a bunch of unsold backstock of faux presigned postcards as compensation for the backers, and Glamour Dolls lied about what they actually where to avoid having to tell anyone that they where sending out old, unsold postcards from their failed apps because they promised something and took money for something they didnt even get approval for yet. I guarantee LFI had no clue about any of this until now as their teams focused more on bigger projects happening than an indie makeup brand making a small handful of items, and now that this is a huge issue LFI has finally noticed what has been happening and thats why theyre counter sueing and going after them for probably damages or defamation

I love Kickstarter but I've been through the ringer with some of them. The one I was most excited for, Exploding Kittens, went off without a hitch - stretch goals etc., everything was chef's kiss perfection! BUT "magic puzzles"... The drama/allegations and partner firings playing out in the backer community section, Twitter, Reddit etc.. was INSANE... also infuriating, I saw the puzzles being sold in Target way before I got my Kickstarter package...😑 Sorry to everyone that got shafted with this Lisa Frank Kickstarter, I feel ya!!!! 💔💸

i’m currently listening to this while doing my makeup! i’ve been following this since 2017 or 2018. i was one of the people who got a product in an ipsy back then so i started following the campaign waiting for more products to come out but they never did? and then i started seeing lisa frank makeup popping up more and more like at hot topic but there was still no big release so i was so confused. i thought about backing the campaign because at the time you could still join in but something told me not to. i’m so glad i never backed it! i can’t believe it’s been like 6 or 7 years. i still have the highlighter i got from ipsy it’s probably beyond expired!! 💀

Learning about this whole thing reminded me that I was also an Ipsy subscriber at the time, and I actually received two Lisa Frank x Glamour Dolls items: an eyeshadow and a bronzer. I had NO idea it was a kickstarter thing and I think my reaction at the time was “oh yeah, Lisa Frank.” I think the products themselves were decent but with this as the context it’s absolutely WILD that they sent stuff through Ipsy before sending anything to their backers. Like??? I was never a Lisa Frank girlie and the only money I was spending was going to ipsy, why was *I* getting this stuff?

I pledge on kickstarter a lot because I collect enamel pins. For the pins specifically stretch goals are things like, if 1000 people pledge a new design is unlocked which backers can choose at the end (for example they are doing rose pins, and there are red and pink, 1k pledges unlocks yellow) or something small like a sticker for people who have already pledged. Now there is usually an option to do "add ons" which is adding extra products for a discounted price, but that is at the end with the rewards survey. I sometimes use this option if I was planning on buying a set amount but I loved the new design so I get that one too. But the only thing you need to do for this is have already pledged, not some ridiculous social media challenge

Every movie you love has horrible people acting, directing, & writing in them. Every singer you like becomes an increasingly awful person with time & money. Every cartoon you grew up watching had morally questionable people working on them. Every item of clothing or makeup you ever wore & ever bit of processed food you've ever consumed was made in factories run by the most reprehensible kinds of capitalists. Your neighbors, friends, & parents are hiding skeletons in their closets they don't want you to know about.

I used to collect her stickers. My dad would buy me little packets of then and I'd put them in my special, "secret" sticker book so I could look at them. It was a special thing we did together. It was always how we started out my visit at his place. It sucks that she tainted that for me. I had so little joy and light in my childhood, that was like... one of the few good things. But, I still have my dad, so we can make new good memories, lol.

I was extremely young when Lisa Frank was on its way out of popularity. I honestly thought that Lisa Frank was a fever dream. My mom was obsessed with Lisa Frank products and she got me everything that she could find. The problem is that I always get overwhelmed by the art, and seeing it again has sent my brain into shock. Thank you for bringing back a memory I desperately tried to suppress. That's not sarcasm. I'm actually happy to have someone who had a more positive experience with the school supplies talk about it. It's also fascinating to hear about the makeup line that I never knew existed.

What a trip down awful memory lane. I experienced all this in real time. I remember being very forgiving for a long time. I have backed so many kickstarters before and after this one and so many of them get delayed but I get my stuff. So I was maybe more lenient that I should have been. But I think it was when that post breaking down the financials came out that I lost it. I didn't know about the kickfurther so that finally answers the question of how they managed to do anything when LFI got over 500K and we didn't raised that much money. I've never been able to look at Lisa Frank the same way after this whole disaster. It really tarnished some good childhood memoires. I wish there was a world where when GD realized things weren't going to work with LF that they just scrapped her artwork and moved forward with original cute neon art

🌈🦄 Honestly, I only blame GD 10%…i think they were manipulated and terrified the WHOLE TIME by Lisa Frank. She created gorgeous pieces of art, her art was a huge part of my 80’s childhood. But she sounds like a narcissistic nightmare who only cared about herself and money. I BELIEVE THEM that the postcards were supposed to be vintage and hhand signed…bbecause i believe LF told them that. And then she lazily had new ones printed with a note. I believe she purposely took her time to milk GD for every dime they had, especially after all horror stories from the other companies. I think morphe was able to do it because their lawyers and contracts prevented LF from screwing them over like everyone else. I feel awful for everyone who backed this project, but the bulk, if not all of the blame should be on that greedy, self centered woman Lisa Frank. I hope the courts see your video and award the backers guaranteed product that LF has to BUY FOR YOUAND PAY RESTITUTION to GD AND THE BACKERS. Honestly, you all should create a class action against LFI because SHE STOLE FROM YOU ALL. Any lawyers reading this? Is this possible?

I participated by getting the items on Backerkit and was so excited. I had been a life long Lisa Frank fan. The trapper keeper palettes are what I wanted the most. I NEVER a saw a single product. At least not until the Ipsy bag had the angled brush and some random appearances in Hot Topic of the brushes and bronzer. It was the first time I had ever spent that much in makeup before. It was $70 dollars I never saw again and items I would never receive.

I'm 44 so LF was HUGE at that moment, and I loved that type of style in general as an 80s kid who loved the OG My Little Pony, JEM, Care Bears, etc I even had the Debbie Gibson Electric Youth perfume even though I wasn't a huge fan, I just loved the hot pink ziggy zag thing. For some reason I just didn't get into Lisa Frank and I'm not even sure why? Maybe it was too much, like an overkill situation, or even a "trying too hard" vibe but the frenzy around it made me feel like a weird outsider. I'm not mad about it now though!
