Clara-Clue people in America are very desensitized to this. In Asia it’s quite conservative, especially in an event like that. tbh, I differ. There was a time when people couldn't express their opinions freely towards unjustices (male chauvinism, homophobia, racism) because no one would side with them and even had the law against their freedom. Minorities and opressed colectives have been supressing their opinions and got hurted for so long and now they the chance to being listened and actually supported. There are still countries where being lgbtq is illegal or even can get killed for, where women are treated less of a human or get in trouble with the law just for having dark skin. You can come from the most developed country and still experience those kind of treatments. We all see and feel the world from different perspectives, we should listen to each other before saying "you're too sensitive"

I actually believe the dating ban doesn't really exist. I think it's something companies say and tell their idols to talk about to protect them, especially when the idols are young. You really only hear about the dating ban in larger companies (larger company=larger fan base). We all know how crazy kpop fans are, to me it makes sense to publicly say "no they can't date" so the crazy fans aren't down their throats all the time. The most I could see is the company saying is please put your focus on your debut and for the first year as a group, and as new idols you probably would want to do that anyway...idk there is A LOT we don't know about in the industry, but I don't think idols or companies, are dumb. If they want to date, the will find a way to date 🤷‍♀️

I agree the dating ban doesn't exist, and if some companies do it they're wasting their time. You won't find boyband members (American even) saying they have gfs because it simply kills the illusion for fans that want to imagine them as husbands. Even the food bans can be cheated because I've heard kpop idols confess to sneak out for icecream and other forbidden meals.

I try not to judge as an American but like you said I don't get the issue of idols dating. These are grown ass people...let them live! They're adults and they don't belong to us. I think that the publics reaction to Jenkai was surprisingly pretty good . Most people seem to not really mind , even in the korean media , from what I've heard . This is definitely a step in the right direction . Plus Jennie wasn't under a dating ban at the time . YG makes all his trainees sign a contract where its stipulated that they can't date for 7 years . Jennie started training in 2010 so hers expired in 2017 . YG probably knew all along tbh . ps: I loved this , you should definitely keep doing them

Well... and Ill probably get hate for this (even though its basically just facts). But hey, I literally won't be coming back to this video so I really don't care. (DISCLAIMER: I don't care if idols date, but I will still hold my position and opinion that they shouldn't) Here's the thing. As a celebrity you forfeit privacy. Period. Especially the way Korean culture is, the idols are products. That's how they're viewed by the company. The only reason Entertainment companies can pay bills is because of the fans, so they aren't wrong, and in Korea and seemingly most east Asian countries, it is your manager and companies business to know the personal life. As for this "love is the most beautiful thing" misconception.... yeah no. This sentiment has been basically proven wrong, and proven that its simply the opposite in most cases. Dating doesn't solve all your problems. If it was this amazing thing, there would be no divorce, marriage/couples counselling. But it can end your career, even in the west. Besides its also been proven that having friends around is far more fulfilling for busy individuals... you know, like idols? There's literally nothing that dating can fulfill more than having a good close or set of friends. Another perk of most idols being in groups. Relationships aren't sustainable. They sign up to be idols not to date. They know what they're signing and they know the culture behind it.They had to bust their ass to get a chance to be an idol, there's no reason to put dating or anything that could harm your career before your career. If you think "Whats the worst that could happen?" Just look at things in the west. Dating and marriages harm careers. Back to Korea, they don't care much about mental health and most the time the mental health specialist they do use for the companies aren't that great. They have a lot of stress and this weighs on your mental health and yes dating does in fact make that worse.

Jessie technically it’s not slavery due to the signing of a contract. I don’t agree with it but it also means that idols should know what they’re getting into before signing a contract. I think celebrities should be happy, but if a contract is signed, i feel it’s only right if you follow the rules of the paper they signed.

Jessie No I get that, what I mean is that idols have to pretty much do what their contracts say. If it’s not in the contract, I feel it’s fine for idols to date. However since people pay for their albums and merchandise, they have a sense of property, that’s where they can somewhat be seen as “slaves” due to the public not wanting the idol to date. I feel if dating doesn’t interfere with their contract, then the idol may then make the decision of dating. vanilla ar I feel this support for Jennie and Kai are are actually being promoted by the korean fandom itself. The outcry in Hyuna and hyojung’s case came from pentagon’s fans for majority not regular Koreans. Whereas Korean blinks and exo-L’s are very supportive of this and also SM and YG handled this wayyyy better than cube did or pentagon’s korean fans did. They literally protested hyojung’s presence in pentagon and showed cube if they didn’t remove him or that that he would break up then they would stop supporting pentagon. Losing the support of these fans who buy multiple copies of their albums just to get into a fan sign would be like losing all the investments and the group’s future would be jeopardized. It’s the fans that didn’t support Hyuna and e’dawn and caused the issue to be blown up. Where as exo’s and black pinks fans are doing their best to support and promote positivity. I wish pentagon’s fans didn’t give such a backlash or hyuna’s fans didn’t just sit there then they would’ve been happier. So I’d say it’s not K-Netz fault or the general public. And if someone says why didn’t korean exoL and blinks help then, we’ll their voice would mean nothing if they aren’t the ones buying pentagon’s music or merchandise. So that’s out of question. Because they would only spend their money on a group they actually like.💜

that's what i thought too. but even if u take the fandoms out of question, it seems like knetz also show more support for kai and jennie. personally, i feel like it has to do with the amount success both groups have. blackpink and exo have both a huge amount of success and their popularity is undeniable. theyre truly untouchable. this dating thing wouldnt have made them flop. they already have made a name for themselves. i mean solo was a big hit despite how much backlash and bad articles she was getting for her 'laziness' maybe if pentagon were on the same level of success as hyuna or at least had a win and another hit then more fans and knetz wouldve been more supportive. not only that but ptg had recently gotten all their fans from 'shine' so many of their fans werent as attached as exols or blinks are and in all honesty its kind of understandable from their perspective. (im not saying they dont have hardcore/attached fans. but a lot of them were new) not only that but hyuna and edawn were already 'flaunting' their relationship making fans feel like they were 'teasing' them or 'disrespecting' them. they felt like they were being lied to. especially since it seemed like to many that triple h was just a reason for the couple to spend time together. knetz were positive bc fans were positive in the case of jennie and kai. and they were negative bc of ptg fans reaction. i think there were also a lot of miscommunications between cube and hyuna unlike sm and yg. i think several factor played part. i wouldnt necessarily say the k-universes are in the wrong or are right but i understand them.

There are still fans who are posting that they are against the relationship of JenKai and they are breaking the CD and albums. But they are being overshadowed by the supportive fans. Exo-L’s have for the most part been through two relationships scandals in the group where they were very angry. Saying that just because Jennie and Kai are from popular groups and companies don’t hold much a factor because Tayeon(the leader of SNSD) was so harassed for dating Baekhyun and Krystal Kai’s ex girl friend was treated the same! This time around in Exo’s seventh year they have for the most part cooled down. And so they are being quite supportive. Pentagon was starting to come out of the Nugu status and they had gained many new fans. These fans are not like exoL’s who now grown with exo. Look at hyuna’s fan most of them didn’t bat much of an eyelash, it’s just Pentagon’s fan. They were the ones who complained during triple H’s promotions that’s Hyuna was too close to the members. Causing cube to release a fake statement and then causing Hyuna to tell the truth. Then upon the truth they went crazy online and in real life. Messaging cube, emailing them and showing that unless they take action regarding this, they will stop investing in Pentagon. These fans themselves were the netizens saying mean things about the couple and blowing it out of proportion. Making cube take drastic measures to ensure Pentagon’s image isn’t completely ruined. Imagine, just imagine if the fans did noting and just supported them. There wouldn’t have been much criticism at all. Hyuna would still be in cube. And e’dawn would still be in Pentagon. Cube isn’t a Small label. And Hyuna is really popular in Korea. So it’s not Jennie and Kai’s fame that is helping as Taeyeon and Krystal both from SM and popular groups have been harassed. It’s the fans that decided they want to be mature and respect their artists.

About Dispatch, I don’t think shutting down Dispatch is a solution, I think the bigger problem is netizens, because when people are on the internet they feel like they have real power and can influence celebrities and their careers. I'm kind of torn about this whole thing with dispatch because I'm friends with somebody who works with the company and she doesn't participate in the activities that is the stalking of idols. I mean I think it's wrong to stalk people obviously. I love this new series! I think(like your channel in general from what I've seen) it blends western fan culture and korean fan culture well. For example, with the Hyolyn scenario, most international fans wouldn't care or think its unimportant. The only reason it would grab attention in western circles would be because omg shEs a QuEeN dAt AsS👀👌🔥🔥 but in korea it raised attention yes because they are usually more conservative, but also because of the type of event it was and who watches the broadcast. I think as an international fan we miss a lot of korean fan culture and while some issues can seem trivial, one, it gives better insight to the main criticism our faves are facing and may be concerned about, and two, a "big deal" is relative. Maybe weird IG pics are skimmed over to us but to others its a huge deal. And some of the points for somewhat trivial matters are valid, like comparing Dispatch to the private camera situation. Tbh, I actually agree with Danny about the Hyolyn thing. I fucking love her, her music, her voice tone, her as a performer, I was OBSESSED with that song last year and listened to it so many times, thought she slayed it in the MV and her dance moves were sexy af and well executed, I love it. HOWEVER! I do think it was inappropriate to perform it at that particular event. Not even really the outfit but more the dance moves.. it's more of a formal event and it's like, would you get Nicki Minaj to perform Anaconda at the Oscars? Probably not. With the Jennie and Kai thing.. yeah I have no problem with it (huge BLINK and Jennie bias too), but then again like you said, it's because I'm an international fan so we're more chill about things like this. I understand that it's a completely different culture with different mindsets there so who am I to judge. I do hope everything works out well for both sides though and the public/fan response isn't THAT bad. I can't speak for K-Blinks but it does seem like EXO-Ls are less worked up than last time Kai was dating and when Baekhyun was. Perhaps because the general age of the fandom as increased over the years and they may have slightly matured more. Of course there will still be all these crazy delusional fans who only want their idol to be exclusively for them, dream of dating their idol themself OR just ship their bias with another member so much that they can't accept them dating anyone else. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of people more mad at Dispatch for exposing them than at those two as individuals. Who knows what the future holds, eh? But YASSS BP QUEENS BOUT TO SLAY COACHELLA! Ugh I wish I lived in the US

Regarding Hyolyn... the criticism I’ve seen has focused solely on her. But isn’t this KBS’s event? It’s not like an event like that was put together a day before it happened. It had to have had so much planning, and rehearsals, so there’s no way that Hyolyn could have performed Dally without them knowing about it. And no-one at any point thought that it might be considered too “risqué” for the audience? The fact that it went ahead means that KBS ok’d it. So why do people focus all the criticism on Hyolyn?!? Personally, I don’t have any issue with her performance, I just think it’s really unfair that the majority of criticism is falling on her alone. But then again, I suppose it’s easier to target her for criticism, than a faceless, amorphous body of event organisers.

When Danny was commenting on his ass preference, I wanted to add the 'The More You Know' graphic. In any case, really LOVE the new format. That background is amazing, and I really like the little non-verbal commentaries you have written throughout. I think the 2-3 major topics is a good structure (not too long, not too short). I also like the agree/disagree element as a way of furthering the discussion. You guys put so much work into this channel! Remember to eat well, drink lots of water, and sleep when you can. :D Good luck this upcoming 2019!

I like this! I haven’t seen any English shows that talk regularly about k-pop news and and give direct opinions from Koreans who understand both Korean culture and international culture. Keep doing it DKDKTV!
