Fyi: A Bronze caseback would lead to skin irritation for most people, that's why all Bronze watches I know/own have a different caseback.
@kimwjustice4 жыл бұрын
You're right. Also, I've heard that when a bronze caseback starts to age and patina, it can leave green stains on your skin which is not a pleasant sight. Additionally, as bronze ages, bronze parts can bond to each other, which would make removing a bronze caseback for service almost impossible.
@Jan-md4bf4 жыл бұрын
@@kimwjustice what you're referring to is probably the reaction of the copper-containing bronze when in contact with a higher concentration of chlorides (from salt water) BEFORE the dark brown oxidized patina has formed. Anyway, the green skin irritations have never happened to me (and I like Bronze watches). But it also depends on the co-elements in your alloy, but now I'm starting to ramble... 😅

@@Jan-md4bf great comments guys. For me what begs the question is why it would be useful for case material if it oxidizes so readily?
@Jan-md4bf4 жыл бұрын
@@seanengel3647 in the case of Bronze, the then oxidized top layer is actually very corrosion resistant, which made it quite favorable to other materials in the marine sector at that time. I myself love the patina of Bronze, as it is less flashy than the polished bronze and bears a unique pattern.

I have the Oris Pro diver Chronograph. After I left the USMC I spent a few years working in Commercial diving mostly bell bounce/Saturation for NDT/repairs etc. Oris was used by a lot of the guys that trained me. I grew to love tool watches- support ships, bells, habitats tend to be very industrial with hard iron/steel sharp edges do a tough watch even just on board ship is a requirement. Yes, dive computers have the market sewn up but most of us also wore a watch as a back up- when something goes wrong as it sometimes does you want a 'tool' that you recognize and are familiar with when your brain is racing through trouble shooting processes especially when in a case like me my tiny brain isn't functioning properly. I am much happier now working in Silicon Valley tech- much more relaxing.

Bronze for me is a material I strongly avoid. It's patina you cannot foresee and if you don't like it it's too late. Therefore I'd go with a steel model for the Big Crown Pointer Date. For me Oris has it's roots as a Flieger watch. Therefore also the Pointer Date would be the "Ego" that holds it all together (although you are right that most speak about the Aquis). 🤔

Very nice trio to represent the brand! I own the 80th anniversary pointer date and really like Aquis (just not that much into divers in general). Their 10-day hand crankers are really interesting too. It's probably worth highlighting the variety of Aquis limited editions. Thanks for posting your videos. I think the clasp on the Propilot-X where LIFT is engraved refers to air lift and not the seat buckle. Air lift which an airplane wing creates is what causes the plane to fly. The clasp itself looks like a wing profile, it is that shape which creates lift. I may be wrong but this is how I see it. I still don't like it though, the bracelet is nice and suddenly there is this odd shape. I am not a big fan of Oris watches, I always feel there is too much in the watch, or something missing, although. I do like a couple of older models.

It’s so nice to see a KZbin watch video that’s not about the same old tired watch brands. Also refreshing to see a generally positive take on the Pro Pilot and the Aquis. Do disagree slightly on the Aquis - for me it is the perfect dive watch. Well, nothing to dislike with a magical sunburst dial, with a clean, modern look. I even love the case, the hand set, the lollipop second hand. Disagree about the date - I think it’s perectily done. It blends in and isn’t, gasp, at the 3 or 4 ruining their symmetry. So tired of all the watches that are vintage inspired (which are generally not very inspired). Not saying there aren’t wonderful exceptions, I’m just not one of these people who puts ancient designs up on a pedestal.
