She seems to take her music so seriously, but the proof is in the pudding, and the pudding here is pretty bland middle-of-the-road pop music. 🤷🏾♂️ The truth is GP just isn’t fussed about new Jennifer Lopez music in 2024. The demand just isn’t there. But still, she ignores the lack of demand and keeps on spending more and more money on big campaigns, glitzy showcases, and high-budget videos for songs nobody asked for…. It feels like she’s screaming “Look at me” and people STILL aren’t paying that much attention. I watched her Apple Music live Special. She performs phenomenally well at her age - let’s not forget she’s in her mid 50’s - but It’s awkward to watch when you realise she’s pulling out all the stops and the pop culture reception is still so tepid. It’s certainly not being received as the blockbuster moment she intended, especially given how much time and money was invested. You absolutely _can_ have hit records in your 50’s, Madonna (4minutes) & Kylie (padam padam) proved that, but without hits, I don’t see what purpose new JLO music is serving other than being an exorbitantly expensive hobby? 🤔
@LD-tn6ff2 ай бұрын
I mean, did Madonna prove that? Her last "big" album was confessions on a dance floor all the way back in 2005. MDNA, Rebel Heart, and madam X were by her standards, somewhat commercial failures, with each consecutive album doing worse than the last. It's virtually impossible for a woman over 54 in pop music specifically to release something to mass critical success to the masses due to a VERY agist industry. Kylie Minogue released one of the best pop dance albums of all 2023 (certainly with the best pop dance song), and still really didn't get the recognition she deserved. If you look into the last 50yo + woman to release an original number one song in pop, you'd be incredibly hard pressed to find one over the course of decades.
@cityboy20922 ай бұрын
I respect it. If she's still passionate about making music and performing, why shouldn't she, especially since she's more than willing to cough up the money for it herself? Her tour is selling well, so there's demand to see her onstage, which is how musicians make their money anyway, and the new album/movie basically serve as promotion for that. Her selling concert tickets will help cover expenses a lot quicker than the new album racking up a lot of streams, so it's not a total loss
@Philipp199672 ай бұрын
@AXFN_ She was 49 during Hard Candy and the lead single was a success due to Timberlake and Timbaland both featuring at it and being huge. The other singles failed to be successful and the album until now sold less than a million copies in the US... The last 3 records all "flopped" and she sells less with every album and didn't have a global hit song since 2008. Don't get me wrong, I like madonna but the OG comment is right. A woman above 50 has little to no chances to shine in pop music.
@AXFN_2 ай бұрын
@@Philipp19967 I agree that it’s incredibly difficult to sustain popstardom at that age - that’s a fact. But it’s also a fact that the Hard Candy album was released a couple months before her 50th birthday, reached no.1 in 37 countries, sold 4 million copies worldwide, and supported a record-breaking world tour. We can argue about the popularity of the album (I was in the U.K. where the album was popular) but you can’t argue with butts in seats - the demand was there, Madonna was on world tour, aged 50, and sold more tickets than any woman in music …ever: those are the facts. The Sticky & Sweet Tour was the all-time highest-grossing tour by a female artist and held that record for 15 years until The Renaissance and Eras World tours in 2023. Besides, 4M sold doesn’t seem like a flop to me, that’s nothing to sneeze at in your 50s. This JLo album will be lucky to sell even half of that. 🤷🏾♂️

Nothing has stopped her from becoming one of the most famous, most successful artists, actor, celebrity on the planet. She has been the first Latina in a lot of things and continues to pave the way. She makes things because she enjoys them and because she wants to. She has never swayed in who she is. Hard work? She doesn't even sing on her own albums. What she has is over-exposure and connections because she can't sing and she's a bad actress - there's been literally no improvement in decades which proves that there has been no work put in. When it comes to Jennifer's music career, I looked at it as a "Get In, Fit In" or "Came In At The Right Time" situation. That late 90's Latin explosion was a perfect time to make her musical debut with her being Latina. 2nd her success in music early on was heavily dependent on what's was hot/trendy at that time until 05'. 2011 was a lucky musical resurgence cause of the EDM craze (once again capitalizing off of trends) Now days J.Lo and her team don't know how to make a hit record (especially the industry being drastically different while in a state of confusion as well), they just throw songs out there hoping it sticks. Listeners shouldn't have a expectation for a J.Lo album.
@aziatix11682 ай бұрын
Yes. Couldn't agree more. She just always fit in inside the trend and she managed to do so during 1999-2005 and 2011-2016 (however her music in 2006-2010 was still great). Since 2018 she's just struggling and people aren't really interested in her anymore. Her song Cambia El Paso in 2021 was an entire club banger with tropical reggeaton vibe and steamy music video, yet it didn't click.

I am not going to knock someone more talented than me when it comes to their music, acting and dancing. My criticism of JLo is how she treats others. Especially the people she worked with like Tommy Davidson. According to him, she completely dissed him when he was just happy to see her. That's when the "nice girl" facade was lifted for me and I started learning that this is who she is, a itch##B! With that in mind, you can keep your album and keep your movie!

I think a better title for the album is "This is not me". As we all know that she didn't sing much or anything on her albums, and if she did, which I'm doubting completely, it would've been layered with another singer. Whilst she can dance and act, and it baffles me why she hasn't fully focused on those two avenues instead of trying to be a singer. Oh, I know why... she was only promoted as a singer for Tommy Mottola to spite Mariah Carey.

It's a shame because the album itself and even the movie, imo, were actually pretty good. I wasn't mad at it. The documentary was a bit much and definitely did her no favors. I enjoyed the fact that the album/movie highlighted finding self-love. It could've used more depth.

crap. I heard Can't get enough and some other songs of her last album on the radio I exactly can't name but I'm sure she was her and everything sounds exactly like some of her songs in early 2000s and if it wasn't her sound, it was something close to Beyonce, Christina Milian. Exactly that type with her more latin touch. This thing honestly made me laugh hard. I was like "how she releases exactly same sound after twenty years?" To be honest, JLo always been mediocre anything she ever did. Singing, acting, dancing...but somehow she manages to build a fortune. Good for her.

Look… I’m happy for her but This Is Me Now wasn’t good and I’ve been waiting to hear someone else talk about it. I don’t know who JLO worked with but the autotune was really bad, and I think the worst part is that no one told JLO that music has changed. All the songs were in traditional song structure as opposed to cutting out the bridges and extra verses (which automatically dated the music)

Personally, for me. It’s the most cohesive and best she’s sounded in an album. Shes definitely put the work in for what SHE sounds best in. And focused on her strengths without trying to be who she isn’t. I think people who want to ignore it can’t necessarily say anything with any weight if you didn’t actually listen or watch the film (even then, the film doesn’t feature all of the songs and some amazing ones were left out)

@scottgarbo12882 ай бұрын
Thanks for this review. All of Jennifer's work (music and acting) has become mediocre, at best, and, unfortunately, is mostly forgettable. BUT, because she has that superstar vibe, energy and confidence, along with her beauty and glamorous image, people still pay attention to what she does. The truth is, that if these songs and movies came from anyone less charismatic, few people would care. It's hard to think that her music was once super-hot and charting at the top of the charts 20+ years ago. Same with her movie career.
@craigjones1946Ай бұрын
J. Lo hasn’t been truly musically relevant since the early-mid 2000s lol. I know she had a monster hit with “On the Floor” in 2011 but that felt like a fluke. Her music career and musical talent has always been questionable though she got by due to her beauty, celebrity, and ambition. I’ll give her credit for being a true pop culture icon and mogul though and she had some great hits.
