Me, native of New Orleans, and im 42 years old black woman. I was about 14 when Selena was unexpectedly murdered. Honestly, I didn't know Selena until my family's bff friend played that song & I fell in love with it. So, a few weeks later, into March, that was when I learned about her murder & she was exactly the same age as my older sister. I remembered seeing Selena's beautiful smile on the news article or newspaper in the grocery story & I grabbed it, just thinking she looked very beautiful. Then this movie came out & i was about 16. Man, I appreciated JLo & I understood Selena's story. Selena was full of life, very determined & never backed down to negatives. She was definitely the force of nature. ❤❤❤

I cannot even keep myself together after watching this. I wasn't expecting to bawl my eyes out. Jennifer Lopez has earned my respect in the way she made sure the focus was on Selena, particularly at the moment she turned her back when Selena was on the big screen. There were parts of this I literally got chills because in some ways/mannerisms she resembles Selena. It's soul crushing to think how far Selena would have gone. Jennifer did an amazing job with this tribute to Selena

I never much cared for Jennifer Lopez as a vocal artists. I always felt she was a much better actress. But this was a beautifully understated, classy, elegant tribute to an amazing icon the world is still grieving. And when Jennifer whispers "I miss you, Selena..." at the end, I feel that in my heart. If you listen to Salina and then Jlo. There isn't much difference in there singing. The father of Salina gave her award for the voice of tribute to Salina and he had tears in his eyes he said that she hit a major stone in the movie and her voice. He couldn't be more happier and his family was very proud of the way she brought the act of Slina to life. They all had tears on stage and could be more proud of Jlo for the voice of Salina. I have today tears when this plays on radio and see it on video's. I'm still glade the lady who shot her is still behind Bara. Amen to the Salinas family and the tribute of Jlo for the excellent job. Elizabeth Whiteoak I heard back in the day people were very angry they picked her (a Puerto Rican) over somebody who was Mexican. There apparently was somebody who looked very close to Selena but the problem was she couldn't speak a word of English (no idea if she even acted before). Everyone calmed down when they showed a Pre screening of the movie and were more open to the idea. I believe the movie wouldn't be the way it was if it wasn't for J Lo. It's sad as time passes people don't know this. I think it's amazing how she still reminds / educate people about how she got where she is now.
