@davidyems26413 жыл бұрын
To be fair to Shola, this is probably the most balanced and accessible that I've seen her. Much of what she has said about injustice and systemic racism in her various media appearances in the past has left me feeling disinterested and disengaged because it always felt like an attack on white people. By at least acknowledging the challenges that other groups like white working boys have faced albeit not because of the colour of their skin, this at least gives the perception that's not just 'white people are bad'. Minds have never been changed by what is perceived as an attack and if Shola has learnt to handle this dynamic in a slightly better way then perhaps progress can be made. Because this was the first time I've ever listened to her being interviewed and not felt like an accusatory finger was being jabbed in my chest as a white guy, I felt more inclined to think about the dynamics of what she suggested. However, we all know that controversy gets you media bookings so I hope this new approach continues.....
@ExtravertmE3 жыл бұрын
You should really think about what you wrote here... You're willing to ignore systemic racism, the deliberate practice of subjugating and exploiting those of other races,simply because her impassioned presentation (which takes much courage and intelligence to tackle this issue to begin with) is a bit intense for you? Can you see how callous, out-of-touch, and insular that makes you sound? Can't you understand how someone may become impatient or intense when she and those who look like her have to walk through the world experiencing racism, and people are constantly trying to gaslight her out of the obvious reality? How patient would you be in such a situation?
@davidyems26413 жыл бұрын
@@ExtravertmE Firstly, Im not 'willing' to ignore anything, I'll call things out, make changes where I see them and try and be better myself. Secondly, was only making the point that she often stirs up division with her presentation. Now if the goal is to break down barriers and tackle that racism, systemic and otherwise, you need everyone on board. Keep shouting at the masses and nothing changes, it gets labelled as race baiting and no one listens. This was the first time I'd heard Shola actually acknowledge other issues for other people TOO ("I get there are issues for white working class boys and these too must also be tackled" is a great way of saying all social injustices must be tackled and it's not just a one way street), and it just enables a dialogue to be open and I acknowledged that change. Take a look at the response to Sarah Everard's murder here in 🇬🇧 and you'll see that those asking for male input for solutions and acknowledging that men are twice as likely to be murdered on UK streets get better received than those saying it's a man problem, men need a 6pm curfew and men just need to fix it (I wonder why one approach works better than the other 🤔). Without dialogue you are shouting into an echo chamber, nothing changes, it's groundhog day. Suffice to say, since then, she has reverted to her default and alienated much of the audience (according to the social media comments I've read on her appearances) listening to her. All of which is her choice of course. It's just human nature Todd and basic communication skills though. Feedback is a gift, 'I'm here Shola, I engaged with this, this worked for me' is so much better than it going in one ear and out the other. A (her) message, however impassioned, is meaningless if people aren't listening or if you are preaching to the converted only. That's the deal here right? Making changes? Making the world a better place? A more equal place? Because IMHO, her usual delivery will not achieve any of those things because people will tune out, switch off & disengage and that's to no one's benefit whatever their colour.

Book title should be ‘This is why I Racist’…. The book would have forwards written by Lammy, Butler, Abbott (with help) and Kehinde Andrews. Well done all you prominent black people waking up Whitey to your hatred. Most black and white folk have lived peacefully alongside each other for many years, but these wealthy activists and politicians need to stoke the fire to line their pockets to the detriment of US! They see opportunities to make mega bucks from the British tax payer spewing their hatred….

Yes no one can forget Lammy in No white Saviour mode. Now hes Shadow Foreign Secretary and in Christian Aid Chine Macdonald instructed people to follow him to the letter.

I'm just going to say this. I appreciate anyone that is willing to speak on the hard truth that most would rather conceal and work to distort. Unenlightened White people and segments of people of color certainly participate in Industrial Strength denial whenever the truth about the structure of white supremacy and racism is revealed in it's full unapologetic truth. It's just too much to lose for them. To hone her critique of that system, I wish she responded to the caller by saying that we are ALL located within White supremacy in different ways. It is not proportionate or equivalent. But we all have a relationship to White supremacy. Those of us that are victimized, marginalized and dehumanized by that system, can use the language and behavior of anti-blackness against ourselves and our own people, (internalized white supremacy or self-hatred) and see other black folks who have the capacity or interest to navigate dominant cultural spaces as threatning or suspicious (which is a real thing) "Not all of our skin folk are our kin folk".....all of this is the result of deep racist and white supremacist forces shaping our minds and lives as black people and people of color. At the end of the day it is about who has the actual systemic power to oppress, and quite frankly, those within that space of dominating power are WHITE!

It’s really annoying that all these other comments that are just speaking without actually saying anything are getting more attention than the one comment that is trying to educate. Further goes to show that people are very happy in their ignorance and that’s why change is soo slow. Thank you for being a beacon of hope👏🏾

seeing as you are so "educated" on this matter, is it then right that Black Africans are oppressing their nations seeing as Black Africans hold all the power there? who are they oppressing? have they abolished slavery yet? if so, is that called Black Supremacy? and if we compare the 2 areas, who has more freedom in terms of the minority groups over there compared to the UK or any African nation, take your pick I do not mind. If this evil white supremacy is so evil and so bad, then why do those who feel that way continue to stay in the very same country when there is a whole bunch of African nations to try out where Black people are the majority? surely those places are going to more welcoming, more prosperous?

@@James_36 I’m not going to go into a deep reply, but I would suggest you look into the history of colonialism, colonization and African countries and the impact it has left behind. Not to mention western imperial backed coups and elections of African leaders that serve the interest of colonial nations rather than their own people. Anyway, you just might have your homework cut out for you (if your genuinely interested) with a good question like that. Good luck!

@@macphallic Funny enough, I would like an answer to his question regarding "Oppression" and "Black Supremacy" . Oh by the way, I am also black too and i'm wondering how we would answer the question he asked. Rwanda has moved or is trying to move beyond what you call pandering to the so called "Colonial nations" so what is the rest of Africa waiting for, specifically countries like Nigeria?

The black population of Britain is 3%. *3%* If you don’t like living in a Eurocentric society that has been a Eurocentric society since the beginning of Europe, then please leave it. From the way the media has been pressured to hire them, one would think that they comprise 50%. We are living in an insane situation with these people, with their demanding a degree of representation in our societies that is unprecedented in history, and totally out of proportion with reality.

Exactly. Since when did being victims of racism, in all its forms, become the sole property of black people. The world is full of different races and colours, yet they've become the most important on the planet (?)
