I think you absolutely did the right thing by helping him out and taking Oberyn. You had the enclosure and the means to do it. Tiy can have other animals and still be morning another. That is like saying you cant make new friends because a friend passed away. If anyone should say anything ignore them. You already explained yourself once you dont have to again. He is adorable. Cant wait to see more of him.

I forever think it’s amazing your motivation is for saving animals every time! Obryn is a great add to your animal family!! And is African fat tail care similar to leopard gecko care? I think they are adorable and would love to possibly get one in the future.

They require more humidity but generally their care is very similar

The ambient humidity in the cage should be maintained much of the time in addition to having a humid hide. As a comparison, Leopard geckos require a humid hide but the ambient humidity in the cage does not have to be maintained. Jessica is doing it right. Some fat-tails prefer crickets and roaches over mealworms, although captive bred specimens seem OK with either. Leopard geckos seem happy with anything. If you find that obtaining crickets and such is more of an occasional occurence for you, while mealworms are readily available, then a leopard gecko might be a more suitable choice. If you go out-of-town often, then a leopard gecko is definitely the better choice IMO.

Idk if you’ll actually see this, but what is your opinion on feeding them pinky’s? I’ve heard you could but I don’t know how old he is or if he’s of appropriate size to consume one either. Flick was kinda just dropped off to me. I didn’t plan to get him and I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can as fast as I can to give him the best life possible.

Would Tep Cal Calcium w/o D3 be a good Calcium to leave in a Calcium Dish in my African Fat Tail Geckos enclosure I'm getting my little baby in March she's smaller then average do to a Spinal deformity but has no special care requirements the Breeder isn't sure how big she's going to get but she's going to weigh her weekly and send me updates while she's on hold I'm so excited and I'm rewatching all your videos about African Fat Tail Geckos i absolutely love them please do an update on Oberyn and Obella

Yep as long as it doesn’t have D3 for the one you put in the enclosure you’re fine! Just make sure to dust with D3 on food

Does he ever swallow any of the substrate when feeding. I started with Eco earth and someone told me it can cause impaction. My AFT likes to lick everything. Your thoughts on the Eco Earth.

There’s always going to be the tiniest risk of impaction even with “safe” substrates BUT if your gecko is healthy & fed from a bowl it shouldn’t be an issue. I personally prefer organic top soil to eco earth

You rescued ? lol you took these animals from his owner. You knew exactly what they are, and what they are worth. $250.00 and up and on top you saying they were in horrible conditions? cmon instead educate the owner so he knows what he has.

“Took these animals from his owner” “Educate the owner” Dude he was rehoming them on Craiglist AND literally labeled them as the wrong species AND was cohabbing a male and a female on sand in an enclosure filled with poop AND was rehoming them bc his kids “got bored”. We didn’t pay $250 for them or anything close. But yeah sure next time I see animals for rehoming on CG in bad conditions I’ll just “educate” the person. I’m sure someone giving away their pets they don’t really care for in the first place will be really receptive to being told they’re doing everything wrong. 🙄

$250 for an African Fat Tail? You can get AFTs for $25! The owner didn't put it on Craigslist to be educated, they wanted to get rid of the animal. I have a Leo from CL that the owner simply said it was a lizard. I asked what kind, she said i already told you its "a lizard". She clearly wasn't interested in learning about its care or needs.
