Bro. The distinction you made between faithfulness and performance really takes the pressure off. I’m so glad you said that! 1:06:50 Best way I can summarize it is this: Abiding = Faithfulness Bear fruit = What God does with your faithfulness I really needed to hear that. I think lots of people battle to live a loving and devoted life to Christ out of true gratitude and genuine spirituality as opposed to fear and performance. I know I for sure need reminders like this often and one day maybe it’ll be super solid in me. Thanks Mike for your ministry! ❤

@@WORTHYOFITALL it's not a spirit. It's a physical, neurological condition. If anything, I think I was given it for a greater purpose. My mom was very abusive and used to beat me horribly with the heavy thick buckle end of a belt. I had my first seizure in the back seat of the car on the way home from a vacation to Florida. It was a grand mal, and I died. I had already turned blue by the time my mom turned around to see how my sister and I were doing. She screamed. I had no power over my body any longer to respond. Dad rushed ahead to a hospital. I saw him carry me in the front door. Mom prayed that if God let me live she would never beat me again. I came back and came to under an oxygen tent. She never beat me again. I endured mental and emotional abuse the rest of her life, but no beatings. My little sister was mentally handicapped. I think had I not had that and died a painless death by seizure, she eventually would have beaten me painfully to death. I would be gone, and she would be jailed for murder leaving only daddy and Nancy. I lived to go on and take care of my sister after the deaths of our parents until the day she died one year ago. Taking care of Nancy was my honor, privilege and purpose. When Nancy was little, she had some seizures, too, but outgrew them until late in life.

27:12 I agree with everything you said about the twelve apostles. Consider this though. As far as I can see God doesn't acknowledge their choice of Matthias. He's not mentioned again. But at that time it seems instead God chose saul and named him Paul. He personally appeared to him and personally discipled him in the desert. I think it's important becuase ifs True. But also to show none of the twelve were picked by man. Like Nar churches like to believe. We have their gift to build up the church, in starting the church and in scripture. An apostle isn't just someone who plants a church but those hand picked by God tho lay the foundation once for all. While their were prophets and teachers and shepards after in the church, there were only these twelve apostles. Something to think about. ❤😊
@robertcain3426
@robertcain3426 8 ай бұрын
Some good points you make Nathan. Especially that God appoints the gifts of apostle, pastor, evangelist, teacher and prophet. Which is unlike the church of today. However, I'm not sure about the restriction of tje number of twelve for the office of apostle. Paul spoke of other false apistles of his day and he wasn't meaning any of the original twelve. And he didn't say they were false because there can only be twelve. Rather, he said they were false because of their motives and what they were teaching. Lastly, it is not written or inferred that there could only be twelve apostles, so it is very unlikely to be true. It's a mystery to me that out of the five gifts/offices for 'building up the church into maturity' only three of those remain. When was it written in the scriptures that two dissappear and inly three would remain. As you say, something to think about. Cheers

Do you think Jesus called 12 disciples as symbolism of the 12 tribes of Israel? For how much the Bible is SO VERY interconnected in even the tiniest details it would not surprise me. Wouldn't it be interesting if we found out in the ancestry of the 12 disciples that each one was a representative descendant of one of the tribes? Maybe we found out that the brothers John and James represented 2 tribes b/c mom was from one and dad from the other. Same for Simon Peter and Andrew. Just musing.

The reason some like to claim Jesus wasn’t God with us in the gospels but was a later development is because they know the New Testament is a better portrayal of history than most other writings and so denying Jesus and His miracles helps reinforce their sinful beliefs and lifestyles. Jesus can’t have actually been supernatural because then He will have judge them and they don’t like that idea.

Great message and teaching brother Mike! I love your heart towards discipleship...your heart for the Lord really shines. One thing I feel compelled to point out is this mixing of the term Jew, Israel versus Israelites. Judas was of the tribe of Judah...Judean or Yahidim. His name would have ended in Yahu..Englishified into iah like Isaiah...modern day Netanyahu..Judean. Since the two houses of the covenant, housr of Israel and house of Judah had been split for hundreds of years they were treated separately after Rehoboam and Jeroboam. Thus a Jew or Judean can not be an Israelite...two separate houses..see Hebrews 8:8. Take note that the term Jew wasnt even used until about 1775...coined about the same time that race was coined out of University of Gottingen and as with the term race I believe it is a deliberate effort to confuse, obscure and divide...seems to have had its intended impact. I actually do believe this is the great deception spoken of in scripture as it is so prevalent people take it as gospel when the scriptures clearly say otherwise. Parting thought...who were the lost tribes that Jesus says He came for? Hint: word Moses used for we will be strangers in the land. Strangers in Hebrew is Ger. Remember that Josephs sons received the blessing and birthright and Jeremiah 24 makes quite clear about how God was going to deal with House of Judah. Does this old stuff matter...you bet big time for these latter days we are entering into. God bless all and may God lead us in truth and mercy.

I would think, the Epistle of the Apostles denial that Nathaniel and Bartholomew was the same apostle lends credence to the belief that early Christians understood Nathaniel and Bartholomew being the same... Just as it's denial of Cephas and Simon being the same, lends credence to the early Christian belief that they are the same.

The number seven is symbolic for complete/completion/whole; seven days make a complete week; seven heads of the 'beast out of the sea' of Rev 13:1 is the chronologically complete Gentile beast throughout history etc. The KJV translation sometimes uses the word perfect to mean complete, because that was the language of that day. I have a question why the Bible doesn’t tell about the diciples getting baptized? Surely they were, as Jesus himself? As Peter says in Acts 2: ”Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”. Apparantly, they got the Holy spirit, so I suppose the Bible just didn’t mention? And also, when the diciples are sent out by Jesus, performing signs and wonders, but before Jesus resurrection and the pentecostal annointing, did they lose the annointing when Jesus died, as they were ”blessed through him”?

I hope you can explain to me and anyone else who may read your response to thia question. I thought for awhile also that Judas was an apostle like the others but changed my view on that. I don't see how Judas qualified to be called an apostle because an apostle criteria is to have seen the risen Christ. Judas hung himself before the resurrection so he is disqualified because he did not see Jesus's resurrection. Judas went out and did miracles but Jesus even states he was of the devil...much confusion with that also.

Hi Mike. Thank you for your deep dive into the Gospel of Mark and your willingness to tackle the difficult questions. What’s your opinion concerning the belief that Mark was superimposing the mythological characters of Castor and Pollux onto James and John? Castor and Pollux were collectively known as the Dioscuri (the sons of Zeus) and inseparable. James and John were collectively known as Boanerges (the sons of thunder) and inseparable. They even speak as one person. Only once is John mentioned singularly and James is never mentioned without his brother. Castor and Pollux often appear in artwork and coins standing to the left and right of Zeus and other various deities. James and John ask Jesus if they can sit on His left and right, in His glory. (Mk 10:37) Jesus denies the request because it “belongs to whom it has been prepared” (the thieves on the cross). The argument is that a Greek reading audience would have recognized these parallels immediately and seen Jesus as taking the place of Zeus, god of thunder and greatest of the Greco-Roman deities.

Did you know that Castor and Pollux appear by name in the Christian New Testament? I'm sure you do. And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux. And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days. (book of Acts)

My ex-congregation has that system, the government of the 12. Aka G-12...sad divisional doctrine, it feels like a pyramid scheme, money making tool. We were demanded to get 12 disciples, and those 12 have 12 too and so on, and when you don’t you are looked down or considered rebellious against the vision of the pastor. Always pressured to get your 12 or you can’t participate on certain privileges. I felt betrayed when they abandoned sound doctrine and implemented this doctrine. Has taken me years to heal and trust leadership again.

so I know this is older, but 12 is also a highly composite number, which means that it has a lot of factors. God is proving that He exists by using the basis of math that He created and we discover. There were twelve tribes on purpose, and twelves apostles on purpose.

THE Evidence today for the Resurrection has to be the same evidence that the apostles employed after His resurrection. The signs and wonders in Jesus’ name validated the resurrection. Their reasoning was simple: A dead Jesus can no longer heal the sick or work miracles. His name would be powerless unless He is is alive, proving his resurrection. Why is it that we expect people to believe in him today without proof? The theological answer is: “Well, we now have the Bible. So, we don’t need miracles and they passed away with the apostles.” I think the devil throws a party every time someone says that. The last thing Jesus had to say about this, is that “And these signs will accompany the preaching of the Gospel”, and we all know what He meant. F.F Bosworth, a great Evangelist and Bible teacher in the first part of the 20th Century says it so well: “Always preach truth, because truth can be demonstrated.” I like to add to that: “If you cannot demonstrate the (Gospel) truth, you are unfit to preach it.” #Selah

And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. MAT19:28 Yeah, that's the main reason.

Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus ( Jude or Judas) I also noticed this : Matt. 10:4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. John 6:71 70 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” 71 He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve. That would mean Judas was Canaanite, the rest were Hebrews, Levites?

the problem for the church is the confusion caused by pastors who conflate the bible messages. if you’re not jewish, don’t teach those gospels if matthew mark luke john james peter jude. you may access some info from them but you need to follow the epistles of Paul. that is currently the only salvation program in operation for 2000 years. (Romans-Philemon) it’s the mystery revealed to Paul directly from Jesus as the gospel of grace, which included the rapture. (rapture is not found anywhere else in the bible). grace n peace

Have you ever looked into the possibility that Levi and Matthew were not the same person. Levi has a modifying son of statement, I believe son of alpheus just like another of the twelve. We must remember that there were more than twelve disciples, at least 70 and not all calling stories must be of the twelve. It is possible that Matthew tells Levi's story in his gospel because it is similar but not the same as his.

Which 12 personality types? If you use the big 5 personality traits, there are 20 personality types, or if you use Myers-Briggs there are 16. I don't think the idea works because it implies that there is a personality type that is destined to the same fate as Judas Iscariot. It still seems interesting to me, though.

Is there’s a God, why is it so hard to understand? If God wants us to worship him and glorify him, why is he so elusive. Why is there so much division? It doesn’t make sense. I know the answer… you can’t understand God and why he does certain things but I don’t buy that. Also…. The scriptures are written thousands of years apart. People try super hard to find similarities and coincidences. Also… If something happens, there’s always an explanation after the fact. It’s bogus man. I find the stories fascinating and I really WANT to believe but we’ve been living in “the last days” for like 2000 years

You have given many reasons NOT to believe, but you still visited this video. Why? Genesis 2: God created Adam and put him in the garden. Gen 2:25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. ??????? Gen 3: 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” 10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” What happened between Gen 2:25 and Gen 3:8-10 ? Who didn't listen? Who moved/hid? Identify the speaker: >Is there really a God? >[IF] there’s a God, why is it so hard to understand? >[IF] God wants us to worship him and glorify him, why is he so elusive. “[Did] God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” >It doesn’t make sense. >The scriptures are written thousands of years apart. >we’ve been living in “the last days” for like 2000 years Holy Spirit, work in this person's heart. Help them understand God's word.

@@leef_me8112 I told you I WANT to believe. Just think 🤔 The way we talk about believing in God is the we talk to our kids about believing in Santa Claus. I WANT to believe but again Why would God who created me and supposedly loves me unconditionally allow one of his children to burn in hell? Who would do that to their “child” One might say well God gave you the choice to do good or bad and you choice bad. You had “freewill” BUT if God is all knowing, then he’d already know what Im going to do so therefore what’s the point of “freewill”? Everything’s already been determined! There are so many more problems like that.

@@leef_me8112 ok fair but why A God? It’s so arbitrary. Why not thousands of beings working together to create the universe? Or why not something else? Any other version is just as valid as saying there is a single God who created the universe. I want to have faith but I can’t avoid all the obvious questions. If God is all loving, why does suffering exist? Because it’s better in heaven? I don’t buy that. The Bible has so many questionable stories… for example in Kings when an angel supposedly killed 185,000 Assyrians in a single night. Well, I am an Assyrian and there is historical evidence to the contrary via the Taylor prism discovered in the mid 19th century.

@@leef_me8112 also, what about all the other people who don’t believe in Jesus? They’re all going to hell?? That’s like BILLIONS of God’s “children” burning in fire forever. Imagine your child simply touching a fire for a split second. As a loving mother or father, You’ll stop it immediately right? God cannot be all loving if he allows the majority of his children to burn in hell for eternity. If that’s the case, God is evil.
