Prayer - when you talk to God, meditation - when you listen and waiting on God. Agree or not?

No, meditation can be part of the prayer too, think about what you said, praying is talking to G-d, talking to someone is an act of seeking out, in meditation we also seek out G-d, and combining the two in the proper way is what’s called davening(praying) with kavvanah (intention), shouldn’t you always do that when praying, when you talk to the king, you think about each word you’re saying and compntemplate exactly what you say, lest you anger him, or even with a friend you put thought in your words, so too in our prayers we meditate on what we’re saying, not exactly the same type of meditation though, there are two main categories of meditation though, active and passive, and they both have their purpose, I’d recommend you look into this if interested, maybe check out Chabad.org or there is one book called Jewish meditation by Aryeh Kaplan that is very short but is a good informative piece.

I had a jewish rabbi who taught me differently about it. So which one of you should I listen to? Can you also tell me, why is it that in the Tanakh I see God ordering jews to kill other people, little babies and at the same time He gives law ''You shall not kill''. Or I misunderstand it somehow, but it seems like a big contradiction.

I think your understanding of Buddhist “detachment” is not fully correct. In Jewish practice there are certain rules that need to be followed; these rules are often times opposed to the personal wants/desires of those who are trying to practice, so it’s part of Jewish practice to let go of your personal wants (detachment) so that you may follow and adhere to Gods law. So, the detachment in Buddhism refers to the part of yourself that you need to let go of to attain spiritual growth. It doesn’t mean you do nothing, love nothing and care for nothing. 🙏🙏🙏

Then why do Sadhus,Gurus detach themselves from the Family Values to find eternal peace of God,??when they can find God by leading a proper life by doing the correct duties for family and lead a good life...
@firstname77697 ай бұрын
@@snoopyguy6765 idk why they do that. But it’s not possible for every Buddhist to be the same. The background of each Buddhist activity is the same but the expression will be different. Further, it’s not so important what they are doing but who is doing it; whether the activity they are taking is selfish or non-dualistic is the main point.

The letter you are using to meditate on is a symbol too. Isn’t that a finite idol? Human mind needs finite symbols and concepts to access the infinite. I would like to know your opinion on this, Rabbi Locks. Good day!

No one is worshiping the letter. No one is saying the letter is a god. We do not worship concepts. We worship only the One Infinite One Who is Everywhere at all times.

Gutman Locks it was meant to be the same with idols in Hinduism. This is exactly why there is a practice of throwing idols into rivers in India once their purpose is done. It’s meant to show that the idol is dispensable. It’s a tool to focus attention on. To control thoughts. G-d is infinite and present everywhere and is in the finite sound (om) or the idol too. But, the sound or the idol is not G-d. Once the meditator has achieved a high level of concentration and focus, he or she doesn’t even need an idol or symbol to access the infinite. You will find many erroneous practices in India which do not reflect the theory (just as in any country). Hope you don’t mind me sharing my opinion. I enjoy watching your videos these days. Good day!

Gutman Locks isn’t Infinite G-d also a concept until one experiences it oneself? How does the human mind conceive infinity? Only in opposition to the finite concepts we acquire growing up.

@@SudheerKolachina It may have been meant to be merely a aid to help focus, but today and for the past thousands of years those aids have become idols. They are worshiped and called gods. The whole point was focused more on making fun of Hindus (referred as Idolaters) instead of meditation. You've just generalised all the eastern practices as Idolaters, but in fact they're not. There are sects in hinduism which does not believe in idolatry. Anyhow idol is just a manifestation or representation of the god. Idol is just a medium, to convey your worship through, to focus upon, like that number on that paper you were telling to focus on. And saying that eastern way is just to detach is not true at all. All the sages that we refer to as divine, came back to the society after attaining enlightenment to lead the path of truth, like a beacon to the humanity. 🙏🏻

@Russell Richards 'Idol worshipping' is quite a derogatory remark. Idol is used just to focus your energies, concentration upon. It's like a beginners guide on the path of spirituality. Although there are different paths explained in ancient Indian texts, hymns which are categorised into four main paths. Bhaktimarga, Karmamarga, Yogamarga, Dyanamarga. Paths like Yogamarga and Jnanamarga does not believe in worship of Idols instead Yogamarga believe in path of Meditation & looking into yourself, whether Jnanamarga believe in path of Knowledge. In the end they all meet at one place. One need to chose his own path as per his/her choice & belief. Basically we say path is not important, but reaching to the destination of God is. As one progress on the path of enlightenment, he/she doesn't need anything else from the surrounding for spiritual progress. At the end we believe God is infinite & so does the paths to reach/attain him. 🙏🏻

@Russell Richards Have you lost it somewhere? If you don't have idea about something then you should leave it as it is, instead vomitting BS. Your idiotic opinions about our ways does not have any ground or reality. On the other hand our ways have been established from past tens of thousands of years. Your useless opinions are just driven out of sheer hate of Abrahamic faiths towards everything else, which says by thumbing it's chest that my way is the only way. All of three abrahamic faiths claims about it themselves then who's right? You're just another fool which is commenting BS about us without knowing a single thing. Keep your idiotic thoughts to yourself & just go to back to your faith instead poking into others. We don't pay heed to your way so you don't need to ours. Everyone is already attached to their life with enormous greed for it & everything is going downward. We try to get detach just get more attached to the God. We don't your belief but still we don't call your belief baseless, demonic, false or idiotic. Because we don't care what you do with your life. Sir Bringing your conscious attention to a singularity(single thought) is meditation, you can use any sort of prop, it can be a symbol, word, idol, or anything. The challenge here is holding your thought.
@prashantawasthi26633 жыл бұрын
@Kimmy Jonggy Really, but thinking of emptying your mind is also a thought, and meditation happens, its not in your control until and unless you learn to focus on singularity(where time doesn't exist) . You cannot jump from grade 1 to grade 10, you have to pass all the grades in between. Comparing jews and Indian meditation and holding this kind of difference in your mind leads you to the EGO, and with ego you cannot even achieve anything close to meditation. So good luck with you "JEWISH" thing.
