It’s a Klon circuit. It sounds like all other Klon circuits plus or minus individual component tolerances. People seriously talking about the comparative audio differences between the notaklon and the original are totally clueless about the point of the entire NAK exercise. That exercise, btw, is self-evidently genius.

When you did the video about “should JHS release a Klon” (paraphrased) video I had a glimmer of hope you would release one. I had a JHS Klon years ago and sold it to pay rent. Been wanting one for a long time. I’m grateful you released the Notaklon. I’m excited to try mine when it arrives and I’m glad you were able to do this for the community and your employees. The biggest trouble for all enthusiasts will be that Josh's new Klon pedal will have ALL NEW PARTS with current high quality manufacturing techniques. If you have an original or older clone of the pedal you are going to be experiencing the bane of electronics which is older capacitors which will no doubt be dryer than a brand new component and this will have some minor impact on the sound. The problem is that without getting in a time machine and bringing a 70's brand new pedal into 2023 and comparing that to the Notaklon, then you would hear no difference except for another interesting fact, grab 2 brand new pedals that are the same and compare them, your going to hear a slight difference and that will not be the circuit it's the fact that not even 2 potentiometers have exactly the same values, one will have slightly more or slightly less resistance to the other. For all intents and purposes it's practicality irrelevant to the circuit but give some pedals slightly more or less gain/volume etc than another. We are talking fractions of a difference here and let's not forget your guitar and amp setup. I've had 2 Yamaha DX7 synthesizers for example and one sounded different to the other just because one was manufactured earlier to the other but overall the sound of either was that classic undeniable FM DX7 sound. Essentially if your getting that picky, buy 10 Notaklons and pick the one that's closest for your ears to satisfy your over the top picky ears and problem solved. Josh I applaud your efforts to bring a nice simple kit to the market which gives enthusiasts a nice easy to build kit to enjoy. If people building the pedal like this themselves reduces cost I'm all for it. The only negative will be the heavy handed guitarist who breaks a circuit board in half etc. Also fellow guitarists, be aware the build construction quality is now in your own hands so you can't go winging about it to anyone but yourself but there is the price for getting a cost reduced bargain kit. So stop your nonsense and just enjoy this wonderful classic pedal with no more excuses not to own and enjoy one. Rock on JHS team!!!

I just put in my order for a NOTAKLÖN and I’m soooooo excited. The pedal is exciting of course but what I'm REALLY excited about is the Goop. All my life I’ve dreamed of having my very own Goop. I think you’ve really got something here. You should think of marketing Goop as a separate product. You could open up a vast new market and make Goop a household name, like Coke. You could even make it available in different colors. Even different flavors. You could have regular Goop and Diet Goop or New Goop and Classic Goop. Just think of the possibilities. (Goop Clear?) Goop is the Future! Together, we can change the world, with Goop! Seriously, I think the NOTAKLÖN is a brilliant concept. I love the stuff you do and I wish you all the best.

I'd love to see more kits from JHS. Maybe some educational leveling up type of pedals. Obviously this would be preschool and you could progress to just a box of components with PCB etching supplies. Eventually the customers could design the pedals for JHS as part of their dissertation in order to earn a PhD from JHS University. Instead of pedal history high school you could start a pedal building university and we could become a Dr of pedals accredited by JHS University. Feel free to use the idea because I'm sure you already thought of anyway 😉 I just want a JHS University letterman jacket. Sorry I got off track, excuse me while my ADD kicks in. 🌪️🕺🤺💨

Also pedantic: If the ö in the name is supposed to reference ikea and thus Swedish, it is not an umlaut (ie an o with dots), it is an entirely separate letter that because of the printing press being german ended up being repressented as an o with two dots. But it is not an umlaut! The extra letters are Å, Ä, Ö and yes the swedish alphabet goes from A to Ö instead of just A to z! The "balkongodlaren" guys name translates to "the balcony gardener".

Watching this I experienced sadness.. None of the comments read were witty or funny.. The last video about updating everyone on shipping was heartfelt and contained gratitude about a smaller company’s triumph of putting out a brilliant pedal that any human could build. I’m positive without a doubt Josh has built a “culture” of people enthusiastic about music and guitar pedals.. I don’t read the comments every video but have never seen such negative feedback.. There’s always trolls or people that are jealous of success that will try to downplay people’s happiness.. I don’t understand Josh why you chose to make this video.. I love that you guys highlighted your children to assemble the pedals.. I for one was worried if this was something that I would be able to build, but after watching them do it I was sold! JHS is a great company and I love your passion for the history of guitar effects, I feel like you have thicker skin to not respond to these pointless comments in a follow-up video. Is it the marketing or social media team that advised you to make this video? If not she should have advised you not to make it. I’m a supporter of the your pedals and channel, and not a fan of giving the people throwing shade on you a moment in the spotlight..

I have a Klon on several pedalboards. More expensive than the Notaklon, Wampler, J Rockett and a Warm Audio. Thought the Notaklon would be a great Christmas gift from my kids. Guess it will now be a birthday gift. I think how you are handling this is great. Some companies would hire hundreds of employees to fill the orders, then lay them off when the orders were filled. You are also keeping with your other orders. I have a Whitey Tighty and it would suck if you couldn't get one for 4 months because of the Notaklon release. I love your videos because you just don't market JHS pedals. You give credit to other companies for building great pedals. I don't know of another pedal company that does that. They all seem to say if you don't have their pedal on your board your sound will suck. Keep it up.

I have my story. 2 years ago I started to think I need a some guitar pedals. First video I watched was JHS Show. What a great explanation video it was. After some time I bought many pedals and then I bought a Morning glory V4. It was huge disappointment: I didn't like how it looks, or sounds, and return it. That day I started to think, that Josh is a great guy, but JHS pedals wasn't for me. Next year I tried many overdrive pedals to find mine and who would have thought, my perfect overdrive was the JHS 3 series overdrive. It was the cheapest one and the last one I tried. It was the best. Probably you should stop thinking about the price. "If it's sounds good - it is good".

I have to take umbridge with one particular comment. The Commodore 64 was amazing back in the day even if it falls short now by today's standards. I used to turn pick your plot books into easy basic programs. It was a lot of typing and in hind sight, voice to text would have been SO helpful in that process. Anyway, the C64 brough affordable computing to my house long before I could have afforded it myself. What's the point? In a similar way to the C64, Notaklön (when mine arrives in February) will bring the Klon circuit to my hands before I would ever spend the crazy money to get an actual Klon in my hands.

Sets the tone for a lot of people on social media that seem to know more than the professionals like those at JHS, and to the fact that you intended to build 1000 (or was it 3k?), but end up shipping 9000 more and probably even double that if you’d want to. As a former proud owner of a Commodore 64 in the 80s I feel offended by that comment.

I bought a pedal last week. Excited. This video was perfect timing for me to do Thanksgiving dishes and give a listen.

This show was fun, watching someone else be the speechless guy going through questions and rude snark was a nice change of pace for me

NötaBadMönkey is not a bad idea for the next JHS Pedals assembly pedal project. Make it happen, Josh! I was going to get a NotaKlön for Christmas (or so I thought),...but I was about 9,000 pedals too late to order before summer 2024! Lol. So hopefully I can probably get the NötaBadMönkey V1 from JHS by spring. Gotta get it yo,...then I'll hadid! Takeaway: JHS Pedals and Josh Scott are marketing geniuses! Period. Real American originals. Making PCB pedals probably sourced from Chyna. Some assembly required. Lol.

I like the reading of comments. I think if you did it with an editing style, such as something like what Fricker does with background music, zooms ins and outs and funny voices, then that would be super cool👍

Huge difference between being coached and actually relating to your Dad and wishing you were like him!!! For people that can't tell the difference, they need to revisit parenthood, they did it wrong!!!

1:10 lol 😆 I've done that a couple of times. I hate it when it's a video and no one tells me to fix the mic.

When Josh said 'the mike is still in my pocket' he sounded a bit like Gandalf: 'the ring is still in your pocket...' 😊

"Josh's Homemade Stuff" is actually great. If I can avoid corporate stuff, I will. When I find garage builders, I go all-in. In fact, most of the pedals on my board are built by garage builders.
