What a irony that there are 2 legendary aircraft carrier that participate almost all important operations in pacifit battlefield and survived till the end of the war, one have been tear into pieces and another one have been bombed by the people she protected.

Scratch the moe-moe surface and it's clear Kancolle is really all about putting a face and voice to stories like Saratoga's (and Nagato's, and...). That's ultimately the appeal of "WW2 shipgirls" as a concept and I'm sure putting its emphasis on it, and then creating a world to give them a chance at a new future in the present day, is the reason Kancolle became such a hit. Pretty girls are great and all, but not exactly rare in the world of games and anime-At the end of the day what makes it all fun is "believing in" kanmusu.

I cried when the medal of Saratoga burned at 1:50. It's very painful and despair that every pride of her was deny by her own country. All because of capitalism think it can save some money. Still, she was not the most pathetic aircraft carrier, Hornet was dismantled.

Well, we did learn a huge amount of priceless information on radiation and nuclear science in regards to ships, without this we probably would've only managed our first CVN a few decades ago and not all the way back in 1958, we didn't know before Crossroads how effective anything on a ship was against a nuclear blast, which would allow us to extrapolate shielding material requirements and thicknesses and everything related to radiation-hardening naval vessels. These days, if you're aboard a CVN or a nuke sub or even just missile destroyers, you're just about certain to survive nuclear Armageddon, even if a nuke wipes out the city the ship you're on is docked at, though in that specific case if you knew ICBMs were on the way you'd leave harbor at flank with every other ship crammed full of evacuees in the hopes of survival and escaping the fallout which would infest everything despite surviving the initial blast and neutron radiation waves. On a warship you'd survive the radiation wave, on a civilian ship? Anywhere from mild to acute radiation poisoning is likely from identical conditions depending on where you are in the ship, on the far side deep in the bowels you may even escape untouched from sheer number of bulkheads and walls and decks on a larger civilian vessel. Frankly, Saratoga, Nagato, Prinz Eugen and Sakawa have a right to be angry and everything, we did betray them in a horrible way, but I think over time they'd make peace with their fates once they get a whiff of the nuclear science development that rocketed forward by quantum leaps post-Crossroads, and if they ever met their young sister CVN-65 Enterprise, Big E, they'd realize that Big E would never have been born without Crossroads, and I imagine Big E would be the first to do all she can to help the veteran ships that died painfully in Crossroads to make peace with their pasts and at the very least set aside their well-earned grudges against us for doing such a thing to them. I imagine Big E isn't pleased by the fact that Crossroads happened, but she would recognize that the people who set Crossroads in motion are long dead of old age already, and all that's left is records and journals and the families of the perpetrators and scientists that took part in the operation. Crossroads wasn't Capitalism, it was burgeoning nuclear science combined with convenience, why scrap a ship that scientists don't believe has a soul or living mind when you can use it for something else and get tangible results out of it? Thus, Crossroads. In a world where ships actually have souls, such as KanColle, sailors would know their ships have them since they'd cause small incidents and unexplainable phenomena aboard the vessel, in real life things such as finding just the right tool in a desperate situation to fix a major problem on the ship is coincidence and forward-thinking of other personnel, here it would literally be the unmanifested Kanmusu nudging things and moving things around in the dark out of her crew's sight to make sure they have everything they need to take care of both themselves and herself. Incidents like a man overboard getting pulled back by nothing and it turns out to be something from the deck like a hook catching his shirt would instead be the ship's spirit seeing that and desperately pulling him back with all her incorporeal might, and it somehow working to save his life in a strong storm. So in the world of KanColle, its even more egregious that Crossroads happened, but the one thing that doesn't change was how beneficial Crossroads was to the advancement and safety of the rest of the world. Again, the ships subjected to such hell have a right to be angry, their hate most certainly is justified and its the consequence we have to deal with for the sacrifice we forced upon them in the pursuit of science, just like how many medical advancements we've made across history would have tens of thousands of vengeful cadavers of all eras swarming us for the sheer hell inflicted upon them in pursuit of science, a notable chunk of their numbers of course being those that Nazi Germany experimented upon. Man has enacted all manner of horrors across history to learn more about the natural world and how to use it to our advantage, its the natural course of science whether we like it or not, and its our moral duty to minimize the horror while still advancing steadily ever onward and upward.
it reminds me of a scene about the meeting of German and Soviet soldiers in 2000s.“The countries we defended are all disappeared, what a meaningless war.”

Light fills the sky to the far horizon Fire dyes the sky and the sea with a distant blue heat You search the burning sky, but nobody is waiting for you. Even if you scrape and fight you will never find meaning there. (Run through) What are you following? (My friends, my home) Have you come this far? (Sea to sky) I forgot (love) (Fire-dyed) (Ashen sky) (Seeking together) (A perfect friend) (I rushed to the distant blue sea) Praying, panting, crying helplessly (Wishing moaning, crying) The fire of despair cannot be extinguished (The shivering does not stop) Sacrificing life after life (falling, spilling, spending endlessly) Keep the pressure on (Like bone, like skin) Abandoned (Discarded) Melting, breaking, burning down (the colour fades into loneliness) Let me hear your voice (tell me how you feel) Burned away a life of sin (the heart that burns and breaks away) Approaching the beach lifelessly (The waves chip away at the stone). I can only imagine how nightmarishly powerful Enterprise would be if she were to succumb to the black abyss. The only thing preventing it would be the fact that she was dismantled and not sunk as a target.

She would look more beautiful and normal than any other Abyssal and Shipgirl... Probably The Arbiter of the Abyssals... (Gib her Energy Sword) I feel she might not need an Abyssal beast to accompany her....
one of two of the US Navy's biggest hero ships, meant to be born as a battlecruiser among 5 other sisters. only her and her sister Lexington would be completed, and as carriers, fought tooth claw and nail, just like the Big E, lost her sister, making her the last of her class. and she served admirably, earning 8 stars over her service. but as the war came to a close, and jets came to be, her obsolescence was clear. and so, while Halsey busted his ass to save her dear friend, Sara was condemned to the bomb along with Nagato, Arkansas, and other obsolete ships. while E's death was slow and peaceful, Sara's was violent, painful, and while in service to her country, most definitely would leave something behind to create a creature of cruel cunning.

If Crossroads didn't happen, I imagine Big E would've been completed much later than 1958. Because of Crossroads, we know, empirically, that being aboard a warship is a good defense to save tens of thousands of lives in an evacuation should Nuclear Armageddon fall upon us via MAD. We now know that a CVN, built thanks to the data from Crossroads, is safer than even a land-bound nuclear bunker from mass nuclear airbursts, which is exactly how modern multi-stage thermonuclear ICBMs operate (edit: think of the Minuteman Missiles which travel at 15000 mph and can be launched in mere minutes or less, we have nuke sub equivalents to the land-based Minutemen too that are even faster). It means that, while the US government reconvenes and restarts with Denver, Colorado as the new national capital via the extensive underground nuclear-proof radiation-hardened complexes under Denver International Airport, the naval fleet can be used to carry huge volumes of supplies to rebuild dockyards and ports and get the nation running again within the decade, if with a very significantly reduced population and mass application of iodine pills, gas masks and radiation scrubbing technology in constant use and innovation to clean up the land to at least a half-decent state.

Crossroads was crucial to the development of nuclear technology, without it we wouldn't have CVNs, USS Nautilus wouldn't have first sailed in 1954 and Big E, CVN-65, wouldn't have launched in 1958. Without Crossroads, we wouldn't know that an aircraft carrier like a CVN is safer than nuclear bunkers in the event of a Nuclear Armageddon due to how the world is kept safe by the constant global threat of Mutually Assured Destruction, but that safety is a careful balancing act that was upset in 2020 when we got an incompetent in charge of our nation who couldn't keep peace with the other global superpowers. We have Minutemen 3 ICBMs, Russia has the Satan ICBMs, China has the Dongfeng series ICBM fleet, North Korea has their new Hwasong ICBMs, India has the Agni-6, Israel has the Jericho, its madness but it was a controlled madness, now its far less certain unless a certain orange can retake the reigns of the west that were stolen from him in 2020 and calm things down, at least for another 4 years.
