I just might buy some Jiffy Pop at the store today. I used to love it as a child, It was a rare treat for us since my late father only bought the kind that you put in a pan and popped over the flame of the gas burner.

This is a 1974 ad, as it's also a tie-in to Walt Disney Productions' initial theatrical reissue of "The Jungle Book" (they used to rerelease their animated "classics" about every seven years before the advent of home video).

In my youth, this was the only way to enjoy hot popcorn at home. We didn't have a popcorn popper, and I had no idea how to pop my own through other methods. And yes indeed, getting scorched popcorn was a fact of life when it came to Jiffy Pop! I'd say that every time I had it, about 20-25% of it was burnt, all at the bottom. It was hard to find an ideal temperature. It had to be heated at high, or nothing popped. But what fun it was to watch it go! And it smelled great, too.

Bad guess on the year - I was 9 at the time, when the "JUNGLE BOOK" was released by Walt Disney - so this commercial was broadcast in 1967!

This absolutely does NOT look like a commercial from 1967, for many reasons. I'm guessing they re-released the Jungle Book to theaters in 79-80 which was not uncommon during this time when home video recorders were only starting to take off and not commonly owned yet and on demand movie streaming was the stuff of some far off sci-fi future.

I remember eating jiffy pop back in the 80s during the time when Philadelphia WKBS channel 48 once had a program called the 8 o’clock movie which had shown a movie called the creature from the black Lagoon because I remember eating jiffy pop popcorn while watching that movieover 40 something years ago before that network went off the air in 1983.

I really can't say that it tastes better but it is great fun to do with kids and grandkids (just stand right by them if they are small tho). I will never forget the look on my Granddaughters face the first time she cooked one! It would have been a 10K winner video. She thought it was going to explode and ran out of kitchen! Now its a tradition here when she comes over. She always makes Jiffy Pop when we watch a movie together. The butter one is very good too.

Then that totally makes sense (I thought it looked a little spiffy for 1967)! Disney would (and still do) suspend the distribution & showing of their films for a certain period of time (referred to as a "moratorium"). Since "The Jungle Book" originated in '67 (and probably played until 1968), it makes sense that it would be RE-released in theatres around 10 years later (I saw "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" in 1964, which was 10 years after its first release). The best part of this practise is that those films were each "retired" for a period of time so as to attract a new generation young of theatre goers each time.
