I loved in the Royal Rumble 1998 when Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie were the first 2 in the ring and Cactus has chairs and Terry Funk has a chainsaw. They beat the heck out of each other and when someone comes in, they pause and beat up whoever it is, and then after they eliminate them, go back to beating up each other. I also liked the dumpster match the two of them had with the New Age Outlaws at Wrestlemania that year. That was a fun match

Cornette concedes that he was wrongfully hot at WWF about giving Terry the gimmick, but claims that his dispute with Dunn was over whether he'd be recognized, which -- if true -- comes off as arrogant in light of the fact that WWF themselves had been promoting that brand on prime time TV for the better part of the year. And even if it wasn't an Austin pop (which I don't think Corny even said), there are a bunch of fans -- especially at ringside (i.e. closer to the action) -- chanting the guy's name, which directly goes against Dunn's point. The fact that WWF acknowledged that it was Terry shortly thereafter, despite not doing so previously, only makes Cornette seem more credible (if only a negligible amount of people recognized him, what changed?).

Being called Chainsaw might have been Funk’s idea, but that doesn’t immediately mean that NOT being called Terry Funk was his idea. And while in hindsight it’s really stupid to think the people wouldn’t Recognize Funk given how thin (shall we say sheer) the mask was, what was really stupid is how they handled it once it was obvious the fans were not buying into this new character.
