In retrospective, The Rock's wrestling career was criminally short. Wrestled for six years, then came back a decade later to wrestle a handful of matches and leave again (after promosing he'd never leave again). And we see all those modern guys for twenty years in a row

Probably started to enjoy the movie star life where he only has to work so long and make way more money and didn't have to destroy his body 300 nights a year for a fraction of the cost. I probably would of done the same thing.

And that’s why we are all so utterly sick of the current roster. No one needs 15-20 years of Orton, Kofi, ziggler, Tamina, Shelton, Nattie. Bring back drugs I say, shortening careers at least kept the TV fresh 😂

There need to be other places for wrestlers to go other than WWE. I guess if you don't mind working the fans a little less and your body a little more, there's UFC, provided Dana White likes you. I like CM Punk too, but why Punk and not Bobby Lashley? Punk might be straight edge but White's on drugs! There's also Mexico, and Japan, if you don't mind getting a passport, but New Japan, CMLL, AAA, each is only a marginally larger club than UFC. More accepting of pro wrestlers, but they already have a ton of their own who don't need passports. Or you know Hollywood/Universal studios, if you're like King Kong Bundy, Big Van Vader, The Rock, Batista, John Cena or...Nathan Jones? God knows there's hundreds of wrestlers over the years who would have been great in movies but never got a second look by casting, directors, writers, actors, executives. Randy Savage was fine as Buzzsaw, why did that not keep going? The Mexican wrestlers used to be big in the Mexican movies. Yeah, Santo Jr killed that off, but maybe somebody should open that back up? Maybe somebody should break into the Nigerian or Indian film scene. Those movies make a lot of money, and I'm sure they'd make even more with big pasty foreigners who looks good with their shirts off. Shango versus Sheamus, Mahamada versus Mustafa Ali! If you're good with Carlos Colon or Savio Vega you might be able to get your hands on some of the money left in Puerto Rico, but the hurricanes are getting worse, and the Richard Negrins tend to be more fickle with that money than the Dixie Carters and Tony Khans. Country music and pro wrestling go well together, supplement you indie income like Mickie James, though country doesn't print money like it used to. Music as a whole has been hit hard by digital piracy...but if you pose nude for a cellphone company maybe you can snag a nerdy chef to pay your bills like Gail Kim. Is Rachael Ray single? Look into that, Damien Priest, Austin Theory! Edit: Better yet, look into starting and Onlyfans! This is why AEW was such a disappointment. Why TNA was such a disappointment. Benevolent billionaires have bought/started something! Finally an alternative...oh look, they've got Big Dick Johnson lookalike wrestling Christy Hemme, they've got a wrestler without legs. Maybe this "Elite" thing can work as a proof of concept for the next...nothing because WWE and AEW both signed 300 wrestlers, ensuring it'll be another five years before anyone can even brainstorm a third national promotion. I still can't wrap my head around two companies having six hundred wrestlers between them while cutting back on dates! Yeah, they're dismissing bodies now, but how did that even happen in the first place? One had been pretending had shareholders to answer to, while Tony Khan doesn't seem like the type to smack down a secretary.

The promo Rock cut on Cena where he was in front of some mountains was amazing. The reason this feud fell flat is because they weren't on the same page. Rock is cutting storyline promos, while Cena is constantly shooting. I called it back then and said Cena was jealous. Rock was an A list movie star and Cena was doing WWE films. Now look at the irony of Cena's promos a decade later.

@@socialistbatman1211 The Rock accomplished everything there as to accomplish in wrestling. There was nothing left for him to do. He elevated the company to heights it had never seen and hasn't seen since. Cena can't say that. If Cena was getting big time movie roles at 30, he would have left too. Cena kept saying that The Rock didn't love the business. I thought that idea was misguided from the start. Dwayne Johnson's mother's family is integral to the history of wrestling and so is his dad. If anything, Dwayne probably not only loves the business, but knows it better than most and how to transition to another career afterwards. (On a side note, I wonder if The Rock and Becky Lynch are good friends. She appeared on an episode of "The Young Rock" and her move, "The Manhandle Slam" is similar to "The Rock Bottom.") Cena later admitted that The Rock helped opened doors for him and others and seemed more appreciative of what The Rock has accomplished in WWE.

I remember being infuriated by the Wrestlemania main event where the Miz defended against John Cena because it just highlighted how worthless that Wrestlemania was. The WWE Title Match was just an angle to set up for the next year's Mania, and after having to sit through almost 15 minutes of Micheal Cole vs Jerry Lawler - which should have been a five minute squash match, if that - and being deprived of the advertised Sheamus/Daniel Bryan match, having a double-count finish in the main-event overturned only for the Rock to beat up both the Champion and Challenger all to set up a match for the following year just felt like having salt rubbed in a wound.

@DefendYoungstown
@DefendYoungstown Жыл бұрын
1) Alex Riley was an earlier example of WWE needing to change shit for no reason. His whole "Varsity Villain" gimmick was, then, close to what early MJF was before MJF was a thing. And it was working. But it was his own gimmick. So, of course, they had to fuck with it and make him a generic Randy Orton with his "Riley Rage" or whatever. And, like everyone else, that not working was somehow his fault. 2) "The Awesome Truth" tag team was something that needed to be seen in context. It was bigger in the moment than it sounds in hindsight. Also, it makes me think on one of Punk's criticisms on what was going on backstage at the time: "If ratings are down, it's because Cena's not there. If Cena *is* there, and ratings are still down, it's _somehow_ the fault of Miz and R-Truth." (as opposed to the week to week product just being weak). 3) the best zinger in that whole Rock/Cena feud is Cena pulling out the "I Bring It... Via Satellite" shirt.

2011 was a weird yet eventful year for WWE "Summer of Punk" & Bryan's rise to stardom. It definitely had one of the worst WrestleMania events ever. It's also the same year Edge retired, Triple H became the "COO", the height of Michael Cole's heel run & time as #1 chief Miz fanboy, the end of the Nexus stable, Kevin Nash returning, Michelle McCool's retirement, A lengthy Jerry Lawler/Michael Cole feud, "Tough Enough" returning, Kane returned with long hair and another half-mask, & Laurinaitis becoming a tv heel authority figure are amongst the other crazy things from 2011. Miz & R Truth were booked as being 2 of the top heels in the company(the other main heels being Del Rio and Mark Henry) & formed a tag-team due to their shared hate of Cena. Miz & R-Truth as a team was serious enough to the point where there was an angle where Miz & Truth were arrested for assaulting officials, talent & trespassing during a Hell In A Cell triple threat title match after they were "fired" by Triple H on an earlier Raw show. Of course, they ultimately broke up as a team not long after the Survivor Series loss to Rock & Cena. Also, someone should read the Wrestlemania 27 match to Cornette. Would love to hear his reaction to Lawler vs Michael Cole w/Swagger, Snooki being involved in a match, & Kane in an 8 man tag team with Santino of all people.

My Christmas Wish WWE Rivals: Cena vs Punk

Sadly Cena is the last real large star the WWE had or well have at the rate its going. He was just as big a draw as Hogan, Stone Cold, Taker, Macho Man, Flair, Goldberg, the Rock and other top guys of the 80s, and 90s.

Last takes a shot at Prichard like Last ever did anything worth anything without it being connected to Jim Cornette. He really must have gotten ignored by the WWE to be this bitter. But look at everything he does. It just ends up petering out unless he has others come in and fix whatever he is trying to do or just come in and do it all to make it worth something.

This feud happened at the height of the Dave Meltzer hoard of online wrestling fans. A generation of fans that grew up on the internet where programmed to always look for a bitch or gripe. No matter how good the card or match was fans where programed to find something to gripe about. Then as Jim calls them the, "smart fans" the offspring of a, "as reported by Dave Meltzer" generation got their what they wanted. they got their promotion with AEW where the inmates ran the asylum with a billionaire budget. This is no AEW bash, but AEW has not been the 5 star endless Iron Man matches with new talent emerging. It seems that some of these, "smart fans" that where programmed to itch, moan, and complain about everything have chilled a bit over the past few years.

Jim’s right in that Freddy Prinze jr isn’t known to be “that guy” in wrestling. It’s just that how DOES one become that guy? Other than just start being that guy.🤷🏻

And your interest is appreciated too.. your probably a good guy, but there are other apps for online dating bro.. You can't even say thats not your intention now either.. your crush just keeps you commenting! Lol.. must be hard being cooped up in your moms basement all the time, but my advice is to try Tinder dude. You'll probably get the reaction you were originally looking for there instead..

I'm kinda disappointed with Brian and Jim on this one. At the time, the news about Rock's notes on his wrist was that he was too over and was dominating Cena in every promo and every appearance he was making. So, WWE made Rock put those notes on his wrist so Cena would have something he could get himself over on The Rock for a change. And of course a self produced WWE documentary isn't going to tell the truth about such a moment in a behind-the-scenes capacity. They're gonna try and use it as it was originally staged - to keep the idea that Cena was somehow in The Rock's spectrum of popularity. But he wasn't, and kinda still isn't.

It was a good feud both guys are top performers it went on for a long time tho an i dont think the Rock should of beat punk for the title an end that long title reign just to have the title in the cena match which never needed it. Because then it was obvious cena was gonna get the win back
