This is literally the only argument people can make against AEW and I don't understand because nobody knows ROH guys, yet many of them end up in WWE. Its like people have something against people coming up trying to be someone like the Rock's and Cenas like it could never happen. Jim's point about the NJPW guys being foreign wrestlers without a large following here in the States is a fair point, but he's purposefully focusing on that and downplaying the fact that the 4 largest wrestling companies in the world not named WWE (AEW, TNA, AAA, and NJPW) agreeing to work together is a huge deal for the wrestling business.
@azmainzakaria2177
@azmainzakaria2177 3 жыл бұрын
Why would anyone take this collaboration seriously when the 4 of them working together can't get anywhere near the ratings all of them and WWE would kill for. You can bring in all the top wrestlers in the world to your company but if you don't know how to present them and make the audience, casuals and hardcore fans, to give a damn about them and prolong that interest for a long time, then you have done a poor job.

@@azmainzakaria2177 First and foremost the days of 10 million people watching pro wrestling on the same night across two shows are long gone and sadly never coming back. For the simple fact that society consumes media differently now than it did 20+ years ago. You can book the greatest pro wrestling television show of all time nowadays and you won't get the same ratings they were able to get at the height of cable television. That's doesn't let off the hook the presentation of a good product which in AEW's case has been inconsistent at best. However, it also means you can't set unrealistic expectations and call them failures when those expectations aren't met. To speak about growing ratings and interest, this is by far the most interesting thing that has happened in pro wrestling since WCW closed its doors 20 years ago. If you tell people that the 4 biggest companies in the world not named WWE have teamed up I'm guessing they'd be willing to give it a chance. Then yes it comes down to proper presentation and booking to create interesting and entertaining product with the plethora of talent available. So give it a chance to do that, rather just shitting all over it when its in it's infancy.

@@SadwichPunch2100 I do wanna give wrestling a chance but the clowns behind the scenes that are running the show are insulting my intelligence in every way imaginable. Professional wrestling has fallen from grace and currently run by folks who has turned it into a real life video game where the moves performed has no meaning whatsoever. That's just the problem with most things now: no one cares about quality, the "choices" are so important to them because they want to find that one little thing that they can identify with the most. When they think that they're being "different", their one little favorite that stood to them is just part of a shitty collective of the same base model. It's the point of no return now.

The realism was the fact that Kane is a near 7 foot guy built like a tank. Couple of things... on one hand Jim insists that AEW is only booked for AEW/internet fans, not the average fan... but at the same time doesn't think AEW fans know who KENTA is. The sad fact is that Jim is the one who doesn't know modern day people in the business at this point. Secondly, Jim needs to realise that not everybody in the world is American... This is not a "national program" it's a global program. There are millions of fans all around the world who watch wrestling. And thirdly, it was KENTA because Moxley has been feuding with KENTA for about a year at this point. Again... not that Jim would know that.

I agree a 100% with what you said. Its Jim's biasness towards the program as usual. This was the lamest review Jim's done in a long time. AEW and NJPW working together will only have a positive impact for everyone. Also Jim constantly bringing up average people will not know who these guys are is a non factor and a redundant point. AEW mostly cares about appeasing their core audience. Increasing their audience is clearly not a priority so why even bring it up. Its their problem not yours so I dont understand Jim being offended. Also every AEW fan knows about KENTA because the audience came from NJPW and ROH fans to begin with. Its not just a "portion" like Brian says its the majority. The bias is clearly as strong as ever. To add to your point, Dynamite gets 2 million views in the UK on average double that of Raw. We couldn't give less of a fuck about American national TV regardless of whether its their base of operations.

Kenta (my spirit animal in NJPW, but I cannot stand that purple hair) attacking Mox was the only thing that made sense, which was also a con in itself. I also feel bad for the Good Brothers being paired up with Omega. To smarten people: Mox is the IWGP US champion on NJPW and Kenta won the New Japan Cup USA last summer to be the #1 contender. However, Kenta is stuck in Florida and NJPW only has New Japan Strong broadcasts down there and he only comes back to Japan for spots or to do the G1 Climax. Moxley cannot compete on NJ Strong as it is a violation of his AEW contract and people were getting anxious to find out when Kenta vs Mox would happen. If he flies to Japan to do the match, Covid is in the way and there is quarantining required when he gets there and back + time zones. Instead, Mox cut a promo at WK15 from Florida and then invaded the show after a Kenta match the week before AEW. Kenta repaid the favor in kind and now NJPW can sanction the IWGP US Championship match on AEW so that more people can see it, it won't violate Mox's contract and if Omega, Callus and/or Good Brothers cheat, it will make sense since Kenta is in Bullet Club. The con with all this is we know what Khan is like with booking, this was a subject that requires the viewer to have a knowledge of other promotion's current events to make sense (which not everyone does) with little to no explanation and Meltzer only liked this because Kenta and Omega.

If only a recap could be done to explain all of this to the TV viewers. IF this was all realistic storytelling which would add to the depth of booking the match between the 2 then this would surely be worthwhile.

I couldn't care any less about who's who, what they're doing, or why they're doing it. Everything I hear about on Dynamite sounds like it came out of the dying days of WCW when they shit the bed from Fingerpoke of Doom onward. Admittedly, I'm curious from a trainwreck kind of way but I can't be bothered much to watch right away. WWE has its flaws and all but at least they pretend to make you care about wrestlers and their motivations or personality. I was ecstatic to see Edge get one more shot at a championship after being forcibly retired a decade ago. AEW seems perfectly content to cater to the same 700k people every week. Even when they pull all the stops, they can barely get up to a million at some point. Granted a lot of it is due to people watching less non-streaming TV these days but it's still telling why people don't bother with this or NXT with their underwhelming talent and booking. There's a reason I only watch Smackdown these days if I ever want weekly wrestling.

@Khalil Salam of course I hv and I desperately wanted both aew and nxt to succeed but I hv been massively disappointed. AEW is anything but sports based wrestling. And I will hv to criticize based on ratings because they started at close to a million and now it floats around 600 to 750 grand. And this reduction is within just a year and a half And NXT and Raw and SD are just abortions with all the TV writers not knowing what good wrestling is. WWE is absolute shit and thats about what you can say. AEW could hv done something different. I am not against Omega or the Bucks. But the manner in which they behave is just insulting to me and I am much younger than all of them. Best Friends call their opponents Weenies like 8 year olds and they are 30 year olds. You cant be telling me that these people are better than Bret Hart or Steve Austin or Terry Funk or Ric Flair. I desperately wanted AEW and NXT to be different. But I am just disappointed So I dont watch any wrestling now. Just a massive waste of my time. Nobody takes it seriously and its a joke and anything but a sport. @Khalil Salam no offense taken bro. All cool. I know that there is a place for comedy and goofiness done properly in wrestling. I mean Kurt Angle was goofy and funny but when he stepped in to wrestle ypu never doubted his credibility or thought he was a joke. With The Best Friends and Cassidy and The Bucks, they are goofy but even their matches are goofy. There is no credibility existing where for just a moment I could whole heartedly believe in them. Thats what I feel maybe I am wrong. A lot of people been saying about NJPW, Noah, ROH and Josh Barnett's Bloodsport. I will soon just binge on all of them. Hopefully they will be good wrestling

@@vb2806 I feel the same but some times it gets irritating to hear him repeat the same shit like he really needs to understand that AEW caters to a global audience and not just America. Some people don't give a fuck about their national TV viewership. The draw over 2 million viewers on average in the UK double that of Raw. This was the lamest review Jim's done in a long time and usually I love them. AEW and NJPW working together will only have a positive impact for everyone. Also Jim constantly bringing up average people will not know who these guys are is a non factor and a redundant point. AEW only cares about appeasing their core audience. Increasing their audience is clearly not a priority so why even bring it up. Its their problem not yours so I don't understand Jim being offended. Also every AEW fan knows about KENTA because the audience came from NJPW and ROH fans to begin with. Its not just a "portion" like Brian says its the majority.
