I hate how every I quit match nowadays has no I quits. Just people passing out or other people coming out to throw in the towel. Almost every time.
@josheisert83803 жыл бұрын
Well thats kind of the whole point of an I quit match. The baby face goes over and beats the crap out of the heal and the heal keeps his heat by saying well I never said I quit. It's a win win for everyone. Just like with this Tully goes on to say I never said the words I quit, I didn't lose. Think about if Tully or a heal actually said the words I quit. He is officially a pussy and nobody cares what he says anymore, thus killing the excitement for whoever he puts over next. However if he comes out next week and says per rules of the match I didn't lose and keeps talking trash we all know he got his ass beat but hate him that much more cause technically he didn't lose. Unless you are a heal fan like myself and like him that much more. The only problem is the concept while new is great. After done many times we all know whats going to happen because you can't have a major heal say I quit unless you are getting ready for him to admit his wrongs and turn face after. This is what I don't understand about Jim with all his wrestling knowledge. He seems to think a KO(discussed in another clip) in an I quit match is or should be a win. That takes away the heals outs to lose yet continue his heat.
@Ted_Bell3 жыл бұрын
@@josheisert8380 If you have an I quit match. Yes people should quit more than 1 out of every 20 times. Boring Predictable. All the smark logic in the world won't save it. When Conner got tapped out years ago and gave up, people didn't stop wanting to see him. They wanted to see him more. If your character is over enough it can survive anything.
@josheisert83803 жыл бұрын
@@Ted_Bell Well thats kind of my point. When they were new they were a great idea. Now not so much since we all know the heal is not likely to say I quit. You can't have a top heal say I quit and then expect his next program to be significant in elevating another talent. MMA is way different. Conner can redeem himself next match. A heals job is to move on to the next face and lose again eventually.
@MisterE19763 жыл бұрын
@@josheisert8380 Totally agree with you on a major heel saying I Quit & admitting his wrongs. Great example is Terry Funk vs Ric Flair Clash of Champions 9- NYKO when Funk quit he confessed & shook Flair's hand & looked him in the eye.
@josheisert83803 жыл бұрын
@@MisterE1976 Yeah those I quit matches are tough scenarios. If a heel wrestler says I quit the only option is to turn face and work on his wrongs to become better so that he has another program/story line. If the top heel says I quit and stays heel the story for him is over. The next guy that works with him isn't going to get elevated by beating him as all he did was beat a pussy who said I quit. I understand people want them to say I quit but as a booker sometimes you can't give the fans what they want because the fans don't know it would screw up future story lines. You have to keep heat on your top heels or they are useless. Also people have to remember its a work. I quit matches are not the same as submission matches. I quit matches purpose is usually not to arm bar someone and make them tap and say I quit. They are geared to beating your opponent half to death and holding a mic to his mouth and having him say I quit when you are not even touching him. It's much more humiliating and if a top heel succumbs to that his next program is worthless.

Hat's off to Tully Blanchard and Magnum T.A. for not only giving us this gift of a match at Starcade 85, but for giving NWA fans the feud of the year in 1985 as well. Two men striving to be the best. Two men who did not like each other. Two men who beat each other up into a bloody mess. Two men who were great champions in the NWA.

Tully made every feud he was ever in seem like life and death. He was the best heel in the business during this time. I always got mad they stuck him in the team with Arn because it effectively killed his singles career which had been brilliant. He elevated Arn but at the same time but at the same time lowered himself in the eyes of the fans.
@artmeddaugh66693 жыл бұрын
@@philipclarke9696 It made sense when Lex joined the Horsemen that he was the second single, and Tully and Arn became the tag team. Magnum TA's exit from the ring was a small thing. But its part of what really made him and the match. After he wins, he gives Tully that "your garbage" look. This match was a real feud, boiling for 6 months, with real men that had a real distain for each other. This isn't script writing. This is a veteran champ, Tully, calling the spots and leading the match. It doesn't get more violent and bloody as this, their whole feud was like this match, but this was the ultimate blow-the-roof-off finale. Modern sports entertainment has absolutely nothing on this ultimate fight in a cage to see who the better man was!
