Fun fact, the collar bone is the last bone to fuse in the body. It fuses when you are about 20 years old,so generally when I draw young characters( like night-wing,robin etc) I just give a slightly deeper shadow in that area( it really works) to make them look young.

I just commented but I feel the need to make another one.. I love how Jim points out that things don't have to be perfect or overly detailed. Like just generally shaping the hands and not drawing all the fingers in detail. I know a LOT of people, myself included, suffer from wanting everything to be perfect. Which is a bit of an issue when it can take you an hour just to get the face how you want. Even worse is digital art. Being able to undo and erase every single mistake. I get in the habit of undoing and redrawing every line 8-9 times until I'm happy with it. People aren't usually gonna notice small lines and mistakes if the art is still decent. The only one noticing is you. Just go to like, half-way through this video and look at the Harley drawing. You just see it as a good drawing/sketch. You'll probably barely even notice he screwed up the ankle area, or that the hand is barely more than a lump with knuckles. HE'LL see the mistakes, but you won't(unless he points em out like in the video). He also said that he's really meticulous sometimes. And sure, you can make sure things are clean, and adding details can be fun, but you're still allowed to make mistakes. Hell, you can take plenty of high quality comic books like Batman, Superman, etc. and spent a while looking at almost any panel, and you can see where their lines aren't perfect. Maybe not even mistakes. They just didn't wanna spend 4 hours drawing every line. Especially noticeable in the crosshatching and stuff.

Aside from Michael Turner (R.I.P.), Jim Lee will always be my #1 fave for drawing superheroes. Lots of sharp angles and none of the squiggly or realistic looks that many artists go for today. For example, had Jim done all of the issues for Marvel Civil War, I would've freaked out and spent more time looking at the art rather than reading the story. Plus he makes it look so simple. I spent my early teen years doing my renderings of his early WildC.A.T.S. stuff and it took me hours to make it look remotely close to his style. Sigh, that's why I'm not an artist.

+Colvich Until you see Nicola Scott's Earth2 Sketches (inside the Vol.1 Hardcover) after I scene them I gave up, because if she had trouble landing A gig, what's the point. No one else who draws in that style should even try. I promise Her sketches are better than Jim Lee, Finch, Daniels, Not that her women & Superman beat Ed Benes but everything else does.
@leolaus3328 жыл бұрын
Anton Lamont Do you know Kim Jung Gi ? ore Moebius? They are just freaking awesome btw i like moebius more because in has comic books, he perfectly decides when to make details and when not. Not like Dc everywhere detail. And actually most of the poses from dc comics are totally stiff and lifeless. And seriously you not make art because, you want money, no you make art because you love it. You know what, to live from comics its extrem hard many people dont make it. But neverless if you love art, you find your way. You know what manga artists said to dc comics, the pictures need to be in museums but defenetly not in comics. Less is more. Seriously find your own style, find what you love, not what they love. Learn realistic drawing don,t just copy someones style, because you never be good as them because you can,t feel like them. Hope the helped.
@5foldunderstanding5478 жыл бұрын
Colvich So True! Yes Moebius i know how good he is. I REALLY LOVE Space Race, late 60's - 70's art. The Art of which Alot of contemporary artists still take head from (like angles an poses). Kubert's Hawkman, Toth's work, Bernie Writhston's covers. Please Check-out Wally Wood's Space-race art, its amazing! So is *Will Eisner's [Spirit] colorless Art*, I BEG YOU TO GO GET A Couple of BLACK & WHITE SPIRIT ANTHOLOGY COMICS (of colorless reprinted stories). Their less than $3 and their BRILLIANT, drawn by Eisner in the early 1940's through late 50's.. Also Jack Kirby's 4th World Art; which is now chronologically collected in four separate *"Jack Kirby's Forth world omnibus"* trade paperback's. Kirby's NEW GOD'S SAGA is still light years ahead of just about anything else at the time. HENCE WHY ITS SO BORROWED FROM. DC's most recent (and totally recommend) *'Darkseid War'* by G.Johns an drawn by P.Jimenez & Jason Fabook (some of which is totally musuem worthy) wouldn't of ever came to be without Kirby's initial 1970's NEW GODS Saga.
