I found a popup scammer operating in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir and decided to track the scam payments from the victims right back to the scammer's bank account.
The journey involved tracking the payments from victims right back to the scammer's personal bank account. The police got involved too.

Many KZbinrs do videos on how these scammers prey upon the elderly. Watching these has help inform me of their tactics, and yesterday, I was able to help talk an old man out of giving them gift cards that I had noticed he was buying while I was standing in line. After going through their typical script, he realized I was saying the same thing they had told him, and he came to his senses. I work with the elderly, often mentally ill patients in a counseling center who have often complained about scammers calling. When my son was about 11 years old he entered a Jaycee Relay Race. He’d never ran track before and didn’t know everybody wore shorts. He came in jeans, to everyone’s amusement. He ran the last leg for his team - and came away the fastest runner of the day, and made up considerable distance to win. This video made me think of that day. How I wish I had been able to see it, instead of only hear and read about it. I was a single mom and had to work. My son was an amazing athlete. ❤️

Today I successfully got a scammer to call me very very racist terms. He then proceeded to put the entire call centre on the line to abuse me. I wasted at least 4-5 hours of there time with fake bank statements and receipts. Thank you for videos man. The inspiration you gave me is invaluable. The entire COD lobby was loving it

The reason local police in India (and elsewhere) don't do much is because they believe "if it's impacting just foreigners and not domestic citizens, so what?" Police getting bribed only matters a little, the more significant problem is not bribery or corruption. It's the idea that if they aren't scamming your own citizens, it's not your problem.

Jim I watched Market Place a few months ago and want to thank you for helping this gentlemen. So glad my Mum at 90 is still as sharp as she was at 50. I try to engage with documentary makers to try to get the message over to people who don't or can't watch KZbin. There's a little section on my KZbin channel called 'Featured on other channels' where you can see some of these documentaries.
