Just stopped in to see what size sockets to use and ended up watching ( enjoying) the details you pointed out, so I watched the entire video. Most people just hit and miss on doing a instructional video. I have been doing auto mechanic work ( mostly on my own vehicles but several years in an auto repair shop ) for 40 plus years and this has been a pretty complete video. If I had never done a brake replacement before I would feel confident I could after your video.

Thanks so much for the size of hex needed for this project. Will be going to town to get the right size in the morning. Best video on KZbin. Thank you again.

Long video, but lots of attention to detail....definitely worth the time to watch, especially if (like me) you haven't done a brake job in a while. Thanks Jim Dandy

Thank you so much for telling the size of the allen wrench for the caliper bolts! I was about to go crazy because nothing I had would fit it. I guess most hex head sets dont come with 7mm Saw your video and went to town and bought the 7mm.

Very helpful. Outstanding video and guidance. Excellent techniques. Trust the advice to buy new or maybe have your old ones turned on a brake lathe. It is $10.00 ea for a light duty (car) or $15.00 ea for heavy duty (full size truck, van, or similar chassis) at a shop or auto parts store. The Super duty rotors require heavy duty brake lathe equipment. As recommended, try to register your warranty at the store. Or, ask for a second receipt that you can file away. The main reason behind avoiding using hand held tools on the rotor result from the potential uneven heating and or pulsating due to an even or slightly uneven surface. If you have high quality pads, with light and moderate braking habits, there is a chance the pads will even out the potential high and low spots. Try it, you already know how to pull them off. If there is noticeable pulsations, replace them or see if they can be turned on a brake lathe. Just be aware that many rotors currently on the road, have a "not serviceable" or "ns" listing. Which means that it is Not advised to put them on a brake lathe, for good reason. Just FYI. I have done this on two of my vehicles and I found that it worked for a while, but, it ultimately ended in my replacing rotors. (Of course I might just suck at hand surfacing rotors) Your brakes are the most important safety system on your vehicle.

Jim, this is the best brake video on KZbin. You are outstanding in your workmanship and ability to create instructional video's. BTW, I'm hoping my 2006 T&C is the same as this one?

Did my breaks on the old 05 T&C for many years. The only thing that I did not look forward to was putting those dang pads back on. Hammer fist and screw driver many times. Don't have the van but man, that brought back nightmares!!! lol

excellent video, you did a great job, thanks a lot. my 2005 T&C is super super rusty ( we don't drive the van much, often it sits for a very long time) . the brakes were soo bad that they seized up. I began with the front brakes. I just finished the front pads, rotors and calipers. now I am trying to do the rear. it was very difficult to remove the rotor on the rear pax side, I had to pound for a very long time. like I said brakes were seized up. after taking the rotors off and looking at how rusty the parking/emergency brakes look, i am thinking I should change them too. is there a video that show how to do that ? also since the brakes were seized up, does that mean the calipers are bad and I have to change them too ?

Actually you had the clamp tool upside down. The convex side goes in first. Fits in just like the pad came out. The way you had it won’t be pushing evenly on the piston. Not a big deal. Otherwise, good video! Getting ready to do this job on our 06 and wanted to make sure there weren’t any “gotchas”. Good idea to scuff up the pad surface on the rotors. I do that too using a Roloc disc on my right angle die grinder. And anti seize is always a good idea! Those clips on the outer pads can be a real PITA! I sometimes have to resort to using my dead blow hammer to get em in place.

My caliper bolts are removed with a 1/4 allen socket. You meant to say hub face instead of axle. You could also slather some anti seize where the rim contacts the rotor. i buy from ebay. I get all rotors, pads, boots and hardware for around $105 (all 4 wheels).

thank you.... great explanation.. i like the tightie loosie example. i always picture a clocks face regular movement tight, backwards mpvement loose. even on your back underneath this works.

I don't know if anyone will read this , I have a 2003 town and country, I've got the two back screw pin things loose and I keep turning them but can't seem to get it past the first hole that holds the caliber on . I mean I turned it for probably 30 minutes on each side . It's the only thing keeping me from changing the brakes. Need advice.

Did the exact same thing to all four wheels but ended up sticking on 3 of them. Wonder what went wrong. First thing I'm going for tomorrow is to lube those torx pins.

Uh silicone spay on the still wet brake clean spray, 🤷♀️defeating the purpose, dosen't the brake clean dissolve the silicone spay, I always dry mine first then spray the silicone spray.

Every thing good, but. what about the parking brake shoes????????????????
@jimdandy64726 жыл бұрын
At about 29:15 I make a quick mention of checking the pads on the parking brake shoes, along with a quick wheel bearing test, etc. Unless something unusual is going on you should never have to replace the parking brake pads.

Can you adjust the parking brakes, mine do not hold at any point?

i found that my caliper bolts were different 6mm passenger side 7mm driver
@donf37395 ай бұрын
If the shoes look good, I'd still put some good anti-corrosion lube on the cable and the actuator lever before reassembling the rotor. If those rust up, the e brake shoes will drag and burn up. I speak from experience.

So, I take it that 26ft.-lbs is the actual torque spec. for the 7mm caliper bolts?
@jimdandy64724 жыл бұрын
That sounds correct for the Caliper bolts, but always best to verify. A drop of blue loc-tight is recommended also.
