I remember the first time I heard this song I was on acid. It was an experience I will never forget. The first solo is very composed, controlled. But then that phased drum roll kicks in and the song just exploded into this blend of colors and Jimi was on top of a cloud rising up to the heavens while shredding, in my opinion, the best guitar solo ever. And the song fades out so it was like Jimi was saying farewell in this alien language. I thought “of course! He’s as alien!”. It made all the sense to me. He came here to inspire others. Godspeed Jimi!

yes I get that, I remember similar impressions, the phased drum roll ushers in that cloud-like, rumbling, windy feeling and it does take off, increases in phasing and altitude up into the skies, and drifts slowly away like Hendrix is in a ship made of guitars and pink/lavender ribbons twirling and whipping in the winds up in the ionosphere. The notes are so tremolo'ed and nailed, so dramatic.

When I heard it, I was looking at a GD tapestry and the mandala pattern rose up and down like a storm cloud into itself in a spiraling blend. For me the phasing gave it all a 3D effect and the pure emotional bending in that last solo pushed the center of that mandala up into infinity... Hendrix is the only artist I ever experienced that could appear as a full apparition without ever being present ✌

this guy went to Woodstock w/ no idea what kind of recording equipment he'd find,( and surely was dissapointed )or what kind of a crowd he'd find,and after sorting thru a thousand wires and recorders/whatever under the stage, he goes out and sees the crowd. holy shit .he recorded all of that music for 3,4 days.

My favorite album by Jimi and the Experience of all time. I saw him in concert right around the time Axis was being released. My first concert at 14 years old. Blew me away. Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, Maryland 1968. He has been my Hero ever since.

Mitchell, according to interviewers and a few musicians (including Redding) was rather stuck up, and snobbish...He would remind Noel that he had been a child star on British TV, and was also from a somewhat higher "class"....but we have to remember, these guys were quite young when they joined up with Jimi...Mitchell was barely 20, and Redding was 21....Jimi had just turned 24, but had had very much experience compared to the other two....in fact, I think the choice of name "The Experience", was just perfect!

I was in high school when these came out. Mom wanted me to be a doctor, but, NOOOOO.... I had to listen to Jimi. So I became a guitarist. I've played over 10,000 gigs in the past 45+ years. It was like the cosmos revealing a new sphere of sound into the realm of mortals when that solo kicks in at the end, in 1967 that was audio revolution taking place, rock n roll had started in black and white probably moved to technicolor with The Beatles but that sound was the first reception of a full color signal and music would never be the same again.

This has been a continual part of my life since it made it to our local Montgomery Ward department store in1968. It has always blown my mind. After listening to Jimi for more than 50 years it is a kind of 'strange cool' to understand how so many great tunes could not be played live. Not to name drop, but my father in law is Billy Kristian the bassist that toured with alot of the bands that came out for US/Asia Pacific tours during the late 60's and 70's, so I have been blessed with the fun of playing on Bill Wyman's Bass (gifted to him after one of the Stones tours), and was able to fool round in the studio with bands that came for recording gigs in the NZ Studio (i think most recently The Herbs). What you do in the booth is so under estimated in the mainstream understanding of music so thank you for giving this clip. It was awesome.

I saw Noel Redding at a small bar in Rhode Island. Last song of the night was Love the one your with. After the song he sat on the edge of the stage and started crying like a baby. I asked a guy what was going on he said Noel's wife had recently died. I saw him at another bar he gave the sit in musicians a piece of his mind I was right there he said "and you guys call yourself musicians". At the bar in Boston he said I'd like to introduce you to a friend of mine In strolled Ginger Baker and they played Sunshine of your Love. I felt like I was in a time machine observing these guys before they became famous.What an honour

Micheal, You *must* watch all of Jimi playing Woodstock live, August 18th, 1969! That was the greatest live rock performance in the history of the world. Pay close attention at his virtuosity when Jimi plays "Purple Haze". It's not of this world. He taps into the mind of God, and demonstrates something that is not humanly possible. He brings a message from the deepest part of the cosmos for those on Earth to understand we are all made from love particles of distant exploding super-novas. 🌌

I had the pleasure of jamming (I played drums) with Buddy Miles(Buddy played his strat with the American flag on it) and we talked about Jimi. +PRE CBS STRATOCASTER'S I was speaking of Buddy Miles from Band of Gypsies!!!!!! Buddy Miles was a pretty competent guitarist as well which is what he played when we did Them changes,down by the river,Midnight rider etc etc at a jam session back in the early 90s.Hendrix was burned out on the blues and he would still smoke all these so called blues icons. Ill bet he would have went in a jazzier direction had he lived longer! Indeed Hendrix's music will live forever. Buddy Guy on the other hand is all hype. For pure blues give me Freddie King,Roy Buchanan or Albert King along with some local cats in Chicago and Hammond Indiana who happen to be world class blues players. Buddy Guy has a club in Chicago. I have gone there on several occasions. I never said a word to him and vice versa. He sure kisses Clapton's ass that's for sure......
