My aunt was left without power, so she fired up her wood stove and cooked everything in her freezer, so it wouldn't spoil, and went to feed folks in her small town also without power. A guy in town was bemoaning the fact his chainsaw was electric. At the time her daughter and her hubby put on their hard hats and took their chainsaws out to cut trees up, opening up roads, to let the neighbours out to get to the shops, this was after a cyclone. Floods cause cut roads down on the coast and unstocked shops in our area, though the cyclones seem to miss our region, maybe because Mt Bartle Frere, tallest in queensland, changes the wind direction. Some trucks go through the inland roads, many are not tarmac, just dirt, if they are not flooded, and in total disaster times, large planes land in Cairns, to re-stock the shelves. Then trucks have to drive up one of the 3 winding mountain ranges we have here. I was visiting once before I moved up, and had to be driven through flood waters to catch the train out while it was still Running.

Kappy directed me to this when we were having a chat about Jimmy Barnes. The video is the result of her brilliant work re-masterjng and editing/compiling - It's a very hard watch, isn't it? UK is now getting heavy rains and experiencing flooding that leaves streets awash and people losing possessions and being forced out of their uninhabitable homes. But so far nothing like these devastating events. Aug'24. UK. E❤

. Thank you. There are areas of GB that do suffer badly when there is really heavy prolonged rain, but at the moment it's hot in much of the UK, so all is currently OK. E❤

Thanks guys. That was from several different flood events. We get a lot of cyclones because we are surrounded by ocean, especially further north. We have had many devastating cyclones, floods, droughts and bushfires. In 1975 the whole of Darwin was flattened on Christmas Eve. Not one house survived. We have an Aussie Christmas song called Santa Never Made it into Darwin. I didnt know about the one in Brazil recently. How is everyone recovering. Our Defence Forces get nvolved with the recovery amd clean up here.

Deb, you and Kap have made me teary eyed again. Darwin, who alive in Aus could ever forget that, absolutely horrendous. And the floods, about 2 or so yrs ago dear friends who (disgustingly) lol, left Victoria for Queensland. Bought a beautiful home, built very high, underneath house was really enough room for another house. Their spare fridge among other things stored there just floated away. Strangers saw the fridge and other things floating away who had boats and towed it back. Only good thing to come out of our floods and fires are amazing people who don’t even know you, risk their own lives for others Aussies 💞

Makes me weep too when I view this - so I don't watch too often . I have the huge good fortune to live in a very small town that does not flood, it's on slightly higher ground than it's surroundings, but constant heavy rain on all the farmland and open countryside around us does flood out onto mostly the back roads.. Main roads will have huge "lakes " at the sides rather than the smaller puddles because the water can't drain away into the waterlogged verges. And on one occasion I was returning home and the rain came down so I was slow driving through rain so heavy that I couldn't see the right hand turn for my road, the rain was like a solid grey curtain , I had to continue to the war memorial in the centre of the town and turn round there to come back on my side of the main road. And sit in the car until the "monsoon" had lessened. Not what you expect in the UK. really feel for all those who find themselves on the wrong side of Mother Nature. Aug'24. UK. E ❤

@@bernadettelanders7306 Hi Bernadette. Yes it's a beautiful tribute, but I can understand it's hard to watch sometimes. I have been very fortunate in our floods, but I have had family who had to be rescued by boat from their homes. Then we helped clean what possessions were saved - this was in the 1974 floods in Brisbane. They had another house and you could only see the peak of the roof. We had a friend who lost his Dad in the 2011 floods in the Gatton area. Then we get the opposite - the droughts and bush fires. We are experiencing soaking rain at the moment. I am just hoping and praying it doesn't flood again. 🙏💖🥰

@@AussieDebb Gee you and people u have known have been through an awful lot. I personally haven’t been affected by fire or floods, but watching other people in parts of Aus go through it, is heartbreaking. My sister in WA had to be evacuated from those last terrible fires. She took a vid of them leaving their home and the gigantic smoke and flames in the near distance was terrifying for me, and so worried for them. What they, or anyone else who’s been through it, I can’t really comprehend 😢 luckily by dam hard work by the fire fighters their home was saved
