Stand-up is about jokes and you can deliver jokes in different styles (some don't even talk at all). I admire difficulty simply because it is harder to do one liners. Carr doesn't always do one liners. Examples of people who do one liners as a full act are Tim Vine, Steven Wright, Emo Philips, Stewart Francis and Milton Jones. I can't do what they do.

Writing. Think about writing a joke. You'll go blank for a few seconds. Now think about the jokes per minute ratio. Some fast talkers like Time Vine could do something like 20 jokes a minute or more (He once held the world record for most jokes told in a certain time).

I reckon he's been doing the Madonna joke since she was 50 but it's funnier/more acceptable to take the piss out of a 50 year old than a 60 year old. Also feel he's doing older more PC stuff because the audience isn't used to him and they're more comically conservative over there anyway.
