I've spent a lot of time focusing on grip fighting for BJJ. Its an underutilized and powerful tool. If you're good at it, it gives you tremendous control over wrestlers.

Jimmy's gripping curriculum is so advance and should be used in every grappling art that utilizes a gi. We have similar strategies at USA Stars in Moore, Oklahoma under Pat Burris

@RileyM0730 yo utilize sweeps and sublissions... but you gotta have judo in case you get an opportunity to throw and it just teaches you body controll and how bodys leverage work against and with eachother...

Hi Jimmy, I noticed that you are a left handed gripper. I also noticed in another video that you stated that controlling the power arm (of your opponent) is the most important thing. If I am a right handed gripper fighting a left handed gripper, Is it more important that I fight his dominant side, and gain a dominant left handed grip, thereby forcing him to fight right handed, yet leaving me to fight left handed? Or do I fight him strength on strength me right, him left? Thanks.
@opportunityjudo7650
@opportunityjudo7650 9 жыл бұрын
+radular What you do in a left vs right is still look to control their power side by taking the inside lapel. That way you can turn in but he can't as you can block him. Fight 'normaly' but just make sure your INSIDE. Then you have the advantage. (60% to you - 40% to him)
@XgamersXdimensions
@XgamersXdimensions 8 жыл бұрын
If it's right on right/or left on left, you want to get that sleeve first and kill his power hand. Then you hunt for the lapel. When it's right on left/left on right, you want to get an inside lapel grip first and then hunt for the sleeve.

Iv watched it all :) i have also watched Koji komuro the judo blackbelt who fights in bjj competitions iv watched his tutorials iv watched his videos, iv watched mifune 10th dans videos iv watched so many videos on judo i watch judo tournaments and thats my view even my sensei said the same to me its hard to explain it online its easier shown that said. You know when your grip fighting people can repeatadley slap ur wrists not letting you get ur grip thats wat i mean, u get chido if u do that

@warwize I could ask you the same question you made, to almost all crazy positions BJJ has...would you do X-Guard, Spider guard, and all that mambo jumbo competition stuff in a real fight ?! Jimmy Pedro is a great judoka and he´s trying to improve BJJ´ers game with his tips. Don´t divide...respect both arts and practice booth. I do BJJ....just not the sport version, only to improve my newaza, and always go fpr the submission, no stalling and unfunctional positions to a real fight.

Intredasting, so inside grip has leverage and you can pull the opponent in granted he is not tremendously much stronger. But about gripping the sleeve, wouldnt it be better to use opposite hand to grab that wrist and then shuck it inside, and then step in the other direction? That will place you directly closer to the opponent but on his side so he cant use his hands now. It seems like judo gripping strategy is very limited because of the gripping rules.

@iamjason yeah if he told me that he was gonna do it then I would've been like "how the christ do I do that?" haha in Judo, their are techniques that give up your back but I have NO idea what the technique is to pull guard.

@warwize Judo always had Ne Waza game, although neglected, with lots of Pins and holds and submissions. Just like BJJ´er...an Judoka can adpat his game to no-gi...Just have to be smart about it. By the way...a real fight in no way reflects a ADCC match...have you ever seen Marcelo Garcia in MMA ?! I did...and he sucked big time. Roger Gracie got KO´ed big time. I suggest you see Karo Parysian, Hector Lombard and Ronda Rousey...see how they do in No Gi...! Just my 2 cents to you.

Im not saying kumi kata is not important at all of course it is BUT to a certain level. If you watch Pedro's fights he wastes too much time gripping instead of trying to go for throws yes i know hes a good judoka but compared to the world class superstars esp the japanese he's no were near as many titles if you watch the top 5 judoka in each weight category watch hw the fight they concertrate on gripping for about a minute before they are throwin attacks in, most judokas waste time doing that
