Excellent video Jim. The more complex workflow is more realistic and serves to put together a more holistic approach that includes edit instruction from many of your previous videos. Great job!

Thanks for sharing your expertise and Luminar discoveries. Using the Glow tool was a really nice touch. My first thought was to brush in the glow, but I like the way the gradient mask expanded it more into the beach area. Thanks again for another great tutorial.

Thanks for another great tutorial Jim. Just a question on the duplication of the Luminosity mask at the 02:50 mark. Why can you not merely change the adjustment slide directly on the original mask layer? Why does it have to be done on a duplicate layer?
@JimNix4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Roger. I added that duplicate layer so I could get the same effect twice, but then reduced it on the 2nd layer so it wasn't so intense. So basically, I got the effect the first time, but wanted a little more so I duplicated it but at a reduced intensity so it was more like 1.4x the effect instead of 2x. Make sense?

Great tutorial video. Thanks. As we're approaching the end of 2020 could you please consider up your video to 4K? 1080p photography videos look blurry and there are lots of artifacts, especially when the bitrate is low.

yes i love your tuto Jim but I have a question what you work with a jpeg and not with a raw ? thank
@JimNix4 жыл бұрын
Oh good question, I always shoot raw but I have a folder of images on my desktop for quick access to, and I use them for experiments and tests. Sometimes I decide to make a video about the results I get on that image, so I just make it on the jpg that I have already practiced on, instead of connecting my library and getting the raw file.

Great question John and I have done this in some videos, but can't remember which ones. I would add a new adjustment layer, apply the preset, and then use the brush to mask it into the spots you want it in. Thanks!

Jim, thank you again for a great video, you have been so much help letting me get the most out of Luminar 4. I have a request if you would please consider. I notice you have a drop down on Objects, moons, bird, the space shuttle, there is also a place where you add your own object. I would like to know what makes up a object, is there a place to get more objects or can you make your own objects? This could be a creative way to add to a photo but has some practical purposes too, a photo signature would be a good item to add as an object as would a trademark for a business, so you see there are some good uses that could come out of this request. I appreciate all you do, I also appreciate your consideration in this matter. Moonpie aka Rich
@JimNix4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Rich, I appreciate you watching and glad the videos are helpful. As far as making your own objects, you can read about that in their manual here: manual.skylum.com/4/en/topic/ai-augmented-sky-tool and they do sell some object packs in the Luminar Marketplace here skylum.com/luminar/marketplace/sky-objects if you want to check them out. Hope this helps, and thanks again!

Jim, I have now watched 15 or so of your Luminar 4 videos and they are just incredible. I'm in the middle of a steep learning curve, but what I find puzzling that I have yet to see you cover is how to save a modified raw image. What I have been doing, after all of my adjustments, is to save my image back to my photos folder, but when I do so it cannot be saved as a raw image. I started out with a 24 mp image, but when saved back to photos, there is no option to save as the raw image I created. When I select it to be saves as a jpeg, it is done so at around a 4mp image or so. The original image before processing, at say 24mp, when viewed in my photos, has not been altered, and when saved the new image id outside the original folder and again it has been saved as a low mp jpeg. It certainly appears to be sharp, but I can't help to wonder what I am missing in this change. I hope that this makes sense and look forward to your response. Best regards, CW Smith.
@JimNix4 жыл бұрын
You can't save an edited image as a raw file. It's no longer raw, it's edited. So you can export to save elsewhere if you want to but you have to choose a file format. I generally choose TIFF uncompressed 16bit for the best quality. thanks
@cwsmith73664 жыл бұрын
@@JimNix Thank you Jim. My question certainly shows how new I am to shooting raw! I also was not aware that saving as a TIFF file produced a higher quality image than as a JPEG so I will definitely be doing that now on as well. I was also under the impression that any image modifications made in Luminar would be automatically mirrored back to the original location in my pictures file, eliminating the need to save the modified image, but apparently that is not the case.
@JimNix4 жыл бұрын
@@cwsmith7366 yes TIFF is great but makes really large files. But for sharing online I recommend JPG. Just depends on what you want to do. If you are using the Catalog in Luminar then yes it saves the edited file in the catalog, but it only shows in the catalog, it is not shown in the your folder as a separate file. Hope that helps.
@cwsmith73664 жыл бұрын
@@JimNix Got it. I can't wait to see just how large they will be. I'm thinking that if it's a photo that I might consider printing, I should save it both as a JPEG and a TIFF, as apparently I cannot print directly from the RAW file stored in the Luminar library. This brings another question I would like to ask you that's a bit off subject, but one that I hope you can answer for me. My current camera offers the option of saving photos in sRGB or Adobe RGB. Would saving in Adobe RGB result in more realistic or complete colors, and would doing so substantially increase file size? I do not use any of the Adobe photo editing software, so no advantage for me in that regard . Thanks again for your valued help.
@JimNix4 жыл бұрын
@@cwsmith7366 I have generally used a JPG to print and it works fine. I have my camera set up to take in sRGB but will admit to not being any sort of expert in this area. I am happy with my photos, so it works fine for me, but technically speaking I am not clear on why one is better than the other. Probably worth a Google search there. Thanks.

Hi Jim... A few days ago I responded unfavorably to the latest version of Luminar to 4..3. Since then I been looking for a solution. I found a memory consumption graphic in Task manager and found that when Luminar started memory consumption went to 100% and stayed there until I shut it down. I continued searching and found that I have 8gb of ram and 1Tb hard drive (Mechanical not digital). In the process of searching I stumbled across a KZbin that said that increasing virtual memory could help. I followed the instructions and changed virtual memory from a specific value to virtual memory to system managed and my problems stopped. After the change I watched ram consumption as I used Luminar 4 and ram consumption dropped from 100% TO about 35% (the same as Light Room and Photoshop elements 2019) and Luminar 4.3 ran well. I haven't seen any drop in performance of any other app. but I can't say that I have any tech. skill to promise that making a virtual memory to system managed won't create problems in other areas but I can say that it made Luminar run better than it ever has. I thought maybe this hint would help others having similar slow Luminar processing problems.
