"Perennial" by Jinjer is a song about the cycle of life and death. It speaks of a moment where the speaker, inspired by nature and the changing of the seasons, is saying goodbye to an old, exhausted life and looking forward to a new one. The lyrics of the song also reflect the cyclical nature of life, as death is followed by rebirth, resembling the idea that life is a circle. The song goes on to reflect on the destruction of life to make way for something new, and finally, it looks to the renewing of life from the ashes of death, acknowledging the beauty of both destruction and rebirth.

I will say that whether on cam or on your own, her lyrics are worth a read. She's quite the poet. Her bigger inspirations are otep, gwen stefani, amy winehouse, and guano apes(german band) growing up she was so impressed by otep's screams, she practiced screaming in the woods, otherwise, tatiana here is not professionally trained, but seems to produce her harsh vocals very healthily. Ive seen them twice, meet and greet once.

The drummer is Vladislav Ulasevych. He's actually originally a classically trained piano player. He learned drums a little before he joined Jinjer because a band he knew needed a drummer. He has a very unique kit and style playing open handed. When you think about it piano players rarely cross their hands when they play so that's sort of a natural thing for him. He also plays several other instruments and has gone on from when he joined to write a lot of the instrumental parts of their songs. The Pisces video you saw was meant to introduce him as their new drummer. This song is about seasonal depression where many people fall into a deep depression in the fall as nature seems to decay and die around them until spring comes again to renew everything. Given the considerable swings in climate from winter to summer in her native Ukraine this is something she has experienced personally. I would highly recommend Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal, I Speak Astronomy (done with their previous drummer) and/or Outlander Official Live at Loudfest (also with their previous drummer and a second guitar player who is also no longer with the band).

That's not correct, he didn't learn to play drums shortly before joining Jinjer, he had been playing drums in his band Zlam for many years prior to that. He played guitar in Zlam until the drummer left the band and Vlad decided to learn how to play the drums to replace him.

@@module79l28 I'm not purposefully spreading misinformation about him and never have. If it's something I didn't know and heard something different you only have to correct me in a civil way not accuse me of lying purposefully. What the Hell is your problem? I'm a fan of the band and a drummer. If I got something I wrong I got it wrong. Don't be an ass about it.

Well, as people wiser than me have stated independently, Jinjer isn`t capable of writing a bad song. And - well, as they also are phenomenal musicians... 😁 Every Jinjer song is a rollercoaster. Only with a rollercoaster you always know where you come out again, with Jinjer, well, you never know: Everytime you think you know what will come next they simply change the system. And - up to now it always works! 🤩🤘

If Im being honest, the official video is great, but this live version is faaar better. Jinjer is a bit all over, but always has the Jinjer feel. But here are a couple of fun ones to give you some different vibes: try Wallflower official video and Pit of Conciousness (album version or Live in Kiev, the video is amazing, and the live performance is incredible). If you want a drastically different sound from them try Beggars Dance and Bad Water.

The omv of Perennial is beautiful but it's been thoroughly overshadowed by the power of this performance. Tatiana struggles with chronic depression that gets a lot worse in the winter bring with it self destructive thoughts and feelings (if you want a deep dive she did an interview with Psychology Today easily found by searching the web). She feels a close connection to nature and it seems that she feels the "death" of the world in the winter quite acutely. From what she's said about it, it sounds like she wrote Perennial to remind herself that the spring would come and she could make it through. Two other bangers delving into mental health struggles are Pit of Consciousness with both the omv and live in Kiev (now Kyiv) videos being great, but again the live performance overshadowing the studio video. And also Vortex which along with Teacher Teacher, I Speak Astronomy, and Sit Stay Roll Over are OMVs that have stood the test of time while no live performance has achieved definitive status to knock them from their pedestals. For some incredibly intense anti-war lyrics and a great OMV their song Home Back is devastating, it's about their home town in eastern Ukraine being caught in the 2014 war that set the stage for the current invasion. It's not often that we get anti-war media from the millions of ordinary people caught in the middle of every war through their own authentic work rather than the platform of someone else's agenda. On that basis it would have been an important anti-war song even if the invasion had never happened, but since it has become an anthem for the band. They have an upcoming album that composition of the music began in Kyiv under siege during the early months of the war and which is supposed to be extremely heavy and molodic. I'm torn between anticipation and terror at what will come out when Tati wipes her tears away long enough to put vocals to whatever lyrics she comes up with for that. TBH I don't know if it's going to be about the war directly, as she said a few months in that it hurt too much to talk about, and I don't know if that's changed. I suspect that conflict is the source of the delay though, as it was originally planned to come out at the end of last year.

Always so good to see someone discover Jinjer 😊 you have enough suggestions, but something to consider since you mentioned it, I don’t think you would find anyone who wouldn’t want to watch you do a double react to the OMV and then a live (as you’ve seen, they really are phenomenal live). 🤘🏻

Great reaction! The drummer is Vlad, and he does use double-bass a lot! You probably already heard this from several people, but just in case not, Vlad is a classically trained pianist and only just before he joined Jinjer did he teach himself the drums. He also does a LOT of the musical composition for the band. I love watching people as they're getting to know Jinjer, I really think you'd enjoy a vastly underrated, underreacted to Jinjer performance, "Captain Clock" (Official Live at Resurrection Fest EG 2018)! I love the live performances so much since you can really see the phenomenal stage presence and energy! I've seen Jinjer live and they are incredible! See you on the next one!
