As for active, Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox is the closest to getting that deep. As for all time, Tati modeled her style of growl after Otep Shamaya. While Otep rarely went that deep, she proved many times she could. EDIT: I will say I think Tati is a better clean singer than Otep.
@Pecos13 жыл бұрын
@@Ephem13 At the age of 13, a young Tati saw Otep and others growling, and was inspired by them to learn to do it. She taught herself, and in an interview with am opera singer, Tati couldn't answer technical questions about how she growls because she is self taught and never had a vocal coach who would've trained her to know the technical jargon. I think it makes her more interesting, because she can do all that she can without having been "professionally trained".

Love the fact she can switch back and forth between the two so effortlessly and cleanly. Note Teacher, Teacher when she even sings a few words, growls the next two...back to cleans a few words then growls again...and once again back to cleans... or even in this song... she growls, then does that belt near the end and back to growls... My favorite is in perennial... where shes in the middle of growling a line... camera gets up close she turns her head and goes straight into a clean.... oh yeah, and when shes on top of her box growling as she arises like a phoenix and she doesn't sound all distorted doing it.

Growlers, male or female, use their false cords to make the growl, not their vocal cords. The clue is that Tatiana can cut between cleans and growls without difficulty. Done properly, there's no risk to the vocal cords. And you're right, there are other female growlers out there, but most are European or Canadian, so the American music industry ignores them.

It took Tatiana 4 years to learn that technique without hurting herself. It does take a lot of vocal training to do that type of growl without doing permanent damage to the vocal cords. She does it very well and in a healthy way. She's an incredible vocalist.

I'd seen other female growlers but never enjoyed that from anyone male or female until I found Jinjer. Best explanation of the technique is on The Fairy Voice Mother's reaction, including demonstration but might help to look up some anatomy pics to make sense of what she’s describing. The song is all about Tati's struggles as a depressed introverted lonely woman who sometimes gets taken advantage of by those she seeks love from. I love and respect the realness without sugarcoating her pain and anger. My favorite band hands down for a couple of years and have been lucky to see them live twice and have tickets for 3 weeks from now - plague willing! ;) Perennial at Wacken next. Subbed! Cheers!

My simple take regarding what some call her "Satanic" voice: If you were a selfless fish (Pisces) who wanted to see the world but was a bit skittish, and then got into the nets and was hooked by handsome butchers who proceed to rip away your scales and entrails (emeralds)... you'd growl too! So you see, sometimes the lyrics call for extreme vocals in a song. Tatiana (who's not singing as someone possessed, so you can toss the garlic back into the spaghetti sauce) wrote an incredible story and sang about it the way it deserved to be sung... as with most of her songs. Some vocalist just keep singing in their nice and charming voice even when the lyrics call out desperation. Not so with Tati. Her extreme expression - a rare ability - adds so much more to a song... especially if you follow the music with the lyrics and how the beautiful cacophony tells the story.

@cyberdan423 жыл бұрын
The song is about the dichotomy and struggle Tatianna (and through her many people, particularly young women) must face. The song bounces intentionally from the sweet and almost ethereal verses (of the quiet, beautiful, elegant young woman society and self expects you to be) to the harsh, angry chorus (raging at how society expects you to be silent when it fails to acknowledge, protect or actively harms you). It is about someone trying to understand what is expected when what is expected causes them pain both emotionally and spiritually, when society demands you conform, even when conformity causes pain, and punishes you when you do not.

Tatiana is just a LEGEND and a true BEAST! Seeing her live is a whole other experience. She uses what's called "false vocal chords" and it's all stemming from her diaphragm, controlled breaths. She's been with Jinjer now since 2010, and has been interviewed over the years and has stated never having any sort of vocal training other than the technique for growling, she also said in one recent interview that her career will end the day she does do any sort of damage to her voice. Hell she does not warm up or rehearse before a show lol because she just doesn't feel she needs to. Homegirl, doesn't even take lozenges or drink teas after performing and she can do this night after night. She's just super talented and overall an amazing artist. Overall badass and slaying it in the Metal world right now. Jinjer, has created a whole new genre of music between Metal and her first love of Jazz and Reggae/Ska. Highly recommend checking out her latest videos from the album Wallflower.

Growling or harsh vocals are a difficult (to do safely) technique but done right very safe. Tatianna is possibly the best in her class, or very close, any gender, but Courtney LaPlante (of Spiritbox), Melissa Bonny (of Ad Infinitum), Alissa White-Gluz (currently Arch Enemy, formerly Agonist) are among the most well known women harsh vocal performers and all are excellent. I've had the distinct pleasure of seeing Jinjer live and Tati's vocals are not like this, no sir, they are better, watching them in a small venue the bass she produces in her low register actually vibrates through your body, seen a lot of metal acts, only had one or two vocalists that could generate that much low register and her cleans are simply, well clean. Superb band across the board, exceptional composition, superb instrumentation and premier vocal performance.
@nutrybe3 жыл бұрын
Great reaction...pretty entertaining! Her scream-type vocals are called "growls or growling" by most people in metal. She's one of, if not, the best at it. it's a whole technique where she uses her false vocal folds along with breath control to get those low end growls and if done properly (which she seemingly is doing because she's been doing it for many years), it won't damage your actual vocal chords. I'll be honest with you, I was NEVER a metal fan AT ALL. I have always liked rock and 90's alternative, I grew up with big band jazz and Motown music playing in my parents house all of the time but ever since I discovered Jinjer almost two years ago...I've been hooked. There aren't many other metal bands I like but there's just something about them that keeps me interested. Maybe it's the progressive sound they use or how they infuse other genres into their songs (reggae, jazz and blues among others). Lyrics have substance...very poetic, and the musicianship of the band is bananas! They'll grow on ya if they haven't already. Highly recommend Perennial - Live at Wacken Open Air 2019 or Teacher Teacher OMV next. If you're feeling spicy...check out Pit of Consciousness - Live in Kiev. Seeing them live in November and can't wait!!!

Tatiana has been doing this for years. She has consulted and perfected a technique that will not damage her voice. Chester and Adele may have had issues with their instruments as many have had that I know had surgery to have it corrected. Floor Jansen, lead singer for the band Nightwish also growls and she used to do it a lot more in her previous bands, "ReVamp" before Nightwish, and "After Forever" (from 1997). There ARE ways for one to learn to do that without collateral damage and Tatiana became extremely good at it. 😊❤️🤘🤘
