Welcome to Jinjer! I hope you continue with this amazing band. I would recommend a live in concert video next so you can see the full power of Jinjer, either Perennial (live at Wacken 2019) or Pit of Consciousness (live in Kiev) as great next stops. Awesome Reaction!

They do sound excellent. And who cares if she's using the fuzz box in parts where she's portraying Satan? It's part of the narrative. She sounds beautiful in the opening, so once mic channel switched for growling, it's nothing to be ashamed of. I would say don't use it so much, only when the lyrics need the 'evil counterpart'. Lots of boys doing the devil dubbing nu-metal voices only sing through that filter, and it sounds like crap after 3 songs.

Love the Jinjer reaction, keep it up. It is 100% her. It's a vocal technique common in metal called growling. It uses the false vocal folds to create distortion. It's takes a long time to learn properly and Tati is one of the best. And the guys are incredible. I saw them live in Atlanta in December and they tore it up. And she does that flawlessly all night. You need to hear them live, I'd recommend "Perennial" (live at Wacken 2019).

@@baronofgreymatter14 Do you have any idea how the sound engineer in LIVE CONCERTS does that job? Some sound engineers switch guitar effects remotely. Depending on the song and band. Like some parts of rhythm guitar are amplified in the chorus, turned down for guitar solo or lead singer contrast. Well fuzz box on her incoming mic channel in a live concert is being done by the sound engineer at that sound board. It's nothing to be defensive about. She has a beautiful voice. Like the dudes doing that growling, most are using tricks. However, they don't open up singing nice like Jinjer is capable of. So it's not embarrassing for her to use the growling filters. The nu-metal dudes who almost exclusively stay in 'devil voice' sound effects are who should feel embarrassed.

@@Greg-io1ip I will indulge your warped logic. I've been a fan of theirs since 2014. I've seen them in clubs that held 35 people. I've met the band. They were a ragtag band sleeping in their car. They didn't have multi thousand dollar sound systems or engineers. Usually it was the clubs PA. You can be as incredulous as you want to be. Your opinion is mere speculation based on zero evidence of their abilities. Watch the video Judgement and Punishment one take with Tatiana. Watch her interview with the charismatic vocalist. I subbed to you guys awhile ago watching your classic rock and blues reactions. I am also into metal and Jinjer has become my favorite band. This video is live but with added layers and effects which they have said themselves. Tatiana is my pick for best metal vocalist (not just female). She has great range, immense stage presence, writes deep lyrics and is super down to earth. The growls are not only her but a technique using false vocal chords. You can easily find vocal coaches talking about the technique on KZbin, regardless of what that one asshat on here keeps saying. I do though think she is best at clean & growl combined. The reason her power and she enunciates the lyrics well. I suggest seeing them live. Perennial live from Wacken is usually next. I think you would find the mv for Teacher, Teacher interesting as it has some moments were she all but flows.

I HAD to watch your faces look like this😲🤯 Tatiana Shmayluk was 15 or 16 years old when she was introduced to Otep's music and, at the time, she was unaware the voice she was hearing was emanating from a woman and was stunned when she found out. With newfound inspiration and on a night that was "15 degrees below zero," her and the friend who had introduced her to Otep, she ventured to the outskirts in Ukraine to try it out. "I started just screaming at cars that were passing by," Shamyluk recollected and noted, "I practiced one song - it was 'Dig' by Mudvayne!"

They added some layers but all her. Technique is called false cord growls. A good overview is The Fairy Voice Mother's reaction to Pisces. If you'd like to see a black woman do that, Melissa Bonny of Ad Infinitum has even smoother growls and Marching On Versailles is a great example of her work. Though I like Tati's aggression better. ;) For more Jinjer I can't recommend a concert video highly enough. I've seen them twice and they are better live than in the studio. It's a vocal technique that doesn't use effects and, if done right, doesn't hurt your voice. She's one of tge bedt at it and is self-taught. Tatiana (Tati) doesn't do vocal warm ups. She's been singing with them since 2010. The entire band is excellent. Perennial (live at Wacken - pronounced Vocken)to seeher switch vocals on the fly live and in the last song. Teacher Teacher or Judgment and Punishment for including very different styles into their sound. They are a Ukrainian band. Tati was in the US, but the guys werein Kyiv when Russia invaded. They were OK last I heard. They are from Donesk which has been at war since 2014. Several of their songs are about the invasions.

Seattle Grunge was the natural bridge between classic rock and progressive rock. Nude Metal boys sounds is mostly what was featured in video games while young fellas wigglin joystick for each other while playing online first shooter video games. So nu-metal is kinda like 'wanker nostalgia' for boys trying to get the nerve to come out of the closet. Which who cares? Better to hug boys than play with gun panty mass murderer shafts in denial that fails. Female Repellent gun panty equipment is already virtue signaling for that pickle juice in the closet.

Hey guys, this also blew my mind when I first heard/watched it and yes...that is Tatiana doing the beautiful clean singing and the scream/growl harsh vocals. There are some standard studio effects on her vocals (ie. compression, reverb, etc.) and it sounds like she doubled some of the vocals in post-production during some sections, but the harsh vocals in general are her (she taught herself how to do the harsh vocals and according to vocal coach reaction videos I've watched, she uses proper technique which won't damage her voice). I would recommend watching the "live from Wacken 2019" video of them performing their song Perennial because it has great audio and video and it really showcases their ability to perform in a large concert setting. They are all from the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine (where there had been chronic fighting with Russian-backed separatists prior to sociopath Putin's 2022 all-out invasion). As I've mentioned before, I've been a musician since I was a young kid and I've played in multiple bands in several genres over the decades, but I was never into metal music with the harsh vocals until I discovered Jinjer near the end of 2021. I immediately loved them because of their excellent, sophisticated songwriting, fantastic musicianship (the drummer, Vlad, was a classical pianist prior to playing drums and he is heavily involved with the songwriting) and the incredible vocals of Tatiana, with her ability to instantly transition back and forth from her beautiful cleaning singing voice to some of the best harsh vocals I've heard, female or male (plus, she has the added benefit of being "very easy on the eyes"! 😆).

I forgot to mention that I would would also highly recommend checking out the official video for their song Wallflower. The song has a very cool groove which gradually builds up to big ending and the lyrics/video are about Tatiana being an introvert in the very public music business, along with her tendency to procrastinate and the pressure she feels from the other band members to finish the lyrics and record her vocals after they have finished all the music for an album.

Actually as you have seen with the other comments there's no effect there. She's using a technique called false chord growling/screaming. It's a very hard technique to learn but she isn't the only one who does it. In fact she learned it because she heard someone else do it (another female with the band Otep). The "false chords" extend over the real vocal chords when you swallow to help keep food from going down the wrong way. Singers who learn this technique learn to control those otherwise involuntary muscles to make sounds. They don't use their vocal chords to do it. The sound that comes out has no pitch it's just a broadband noise. They then have to use their mouth and tongue to filter that sound down to what they want. Very much like a trumpet mute or a synthesizer filter. That's why when she does the chorus some of the words are pronounced oddly. Roll your tongue back in your mouth, round the shape of you mouth a bit and try to say the same lyrics and you'll see what I mean.

@@TheRagratus Same difference, as I said "that is her voice". Fwiw, effects DO aid. Otherwise, she doesn't get the demonic effect. NOBODY has a voice like that.

@@Greg-io1ip That vocal is no more "effected" than any other, using reverb, compression, etc. You may as well talk about the engineer altering Robert Plant's voice.

This isn't my favorite genre of metal music, but you asked for examples of women in music and she is a powerhouse of a vocalist. I'm glad you enjoyed it, while there are some production values added afterwards, what she's doing is using a vocal technique used by many metal vocalists, it's not an added effect.

Sure. Not any effects going on (eye roll). You actually hurt the band needing to sell 'that is all her growling!' nonsense. It's ok to use the sound effects, if it fits the narrative. It was interesting. I liked it. What I don't like is this lying agenda seems orchestrated in the comments. She isn't doing anything much different in the growling parts. The sound engineer switching mic channel into a fuzz box. It's ridiculous to even debate.

Don’t like the gruff vocals, but I’ve never liked that vocal or metal since I was a kid. Just can’t do it. The other side of the coin is pretty damn good!
