Tati said in an interview with Elizabeth Zharoff that she writes the lyrics in Russian and it's always something of a happy accident that when translated they work so well in English.

I wish you reacted to Home Back with the video... The reason why it's written in 2019 is because the war started in 2014, and then got much bigger this year. Jinjer originally are from a town of Horlivka which has been occupied since 2014

No Hoard and Home Back are in my top 5 Jinjer songs, considering they are my favorite band that is quite a treat. Note that Tati, Eugene and Roman are from Eastern Ukraine that was invaded in 2014. They have lost their homes and families long before the Russian invasion this year. Note the song Retrospection is about them missing their families stuck in Eastern Ukraine. Incredible music and powerful lyrics as always.

You can't just listen to Ape once, because you probably can't get to terms with that apparent chaos. Like many of their works, it gains meaning and beauty the more it sinks in. And yeah, really good time hanging out with you and Jinjer, thanks for this.

I love their mixes in general but the guitar tone on wallflowers is not nearly as good as the other albums. I hope they get that straightened out for the next record because Roman is an absolute beast... he deserves an old school fat Marshall Plexi tone. I think they added a bit of distortion to the base and that may be screwing up what I'm hearing as the guitar tone also. the album just does not sound as muscular as previous albums

Just saw them live for the second year in a row on November 20th, which is still crazy to me how it worked out that way. Anyways, it was an amazing show in Boston.(Last year was New Haven, CT.) Already can't wait for their next U.S. tour. I doubt they will ever bring it back into rotation on shows, but No Hoard of Value is on my live wishlist for them. Such a good song.

@@boxychubbo6922 Yeah I was surprised to not hear Pit of Consciousness this year. It was on their setlist last year. They changed up about half of the setlist from the 2021 tour for 2022. I was also very happy to hear Who Is Going To Be The One. That was one I was waiting for last year that didn't happen.

What's amazing, in the live version of Perennial, when she does that drawn out clean vocal, it sounds as good as the studio version and she goes directly into the final harsh vocals section where it's layered in on the studio version.

I couldn't tell for sure but I think I saw you notice the vocal delay on that one section of Ape. It was an echo but instead of being an echo of the main vocal it was a completely different note. They have a few cool things in their music like that. Including a very brief harmony in Teacher Teacher towards the end which is a harmony but it's a telephone voice tone and it works so well for that brief harmony. Ear candy.

I'm still here Geebz. I left a hasty comment when I saw the video about how excited I was for you to hear No Hoard of Value, then I realized it was pointless since I'd have to say something about every song. But yeah, No Hoard of Value is just so badass, that chorus crushes and shows that even back in 2014, Jinjer knew what they were doing. I'm glad you were looking at the lyrics for these two, because I do think it really helps you appreciate Home Back. Ape is one of those tracks that, even for someone who listens to a lot of this more complex side of metal, I struggle to follow along while still enjoying that song isn't total chaos. Perennial feels like a great song to showcase Tatiana's vocal ability, because while I don't know if "squeak" is the word I would use, I do hear something unique in her tongue when she does those dramatic sections. And I always love the reaction to the beginning of Mediator, the "stop...GO!" is so fun. Such a great band, hope they stick around for a long time and make more great music together.

Here it is!! Sup Geebz. Hey I forgot to tell you that the opener band for VOLA was Earthside. You've done 2 of their tracks about a year ago. But the song "The closest I've come" was unbelievable to watch them play live. The guitarist is crushing an 8 string guitar. The speed in which he is playing is mesmerizing. Not to mention the bass player has got a six-string. The melodies and songwriting is very capturing. I never even heard the song before but I started to get a bit choked up emotionally from the song. Geebz, you have to check this song out. Earthside - the closest I've come. Beyond AWESOME! And it's an instrumental. Aloha 🤙

I'm still here. Watching you makes me understand how fans are made. When you hear something that makes you like it - I feel Jinjer is that band - they just make you appreciate the talent and the creativity and the composition of their music. There are tons of gifted musicians and they make beautiful music with their talent and work to bring it out of them and to you, the listener. Jinjer has an uncanny ability to all bring their talent to a masterful final product and when you really start hearing it for the total package that it is, it just makes sense. You can listen individually to the instruments, but the whole sound together is more than the sum of its' parts even though the parts are genius on their own. I appreciate having the view from you as someone who has worked "in the background" to bring these final products to the world, you have different experiences and viewpoints because of your background and hearing the tidbits you discuss is what will always keep me watching your reactions. Bravo sir! 🤘

YES Geebz - Jinjer are *so* worth your time! That bonkers Alice-In-Wonderland-themed bossa nova chill passage in "Home Back" is touched by true #Genius imho. To place that as momentary relief in the middle of one of their (suitably, given the subject matter) heaviest, most angular-timings-with-heavy-syncopation, songs initially seems totally o_O but by the end of the song you cannot imagine anything else being there in its place. Genuinely inspired stuff. "Mediator" has *so* much going on all the way thru that the thought of anyone having to get that right at live gigs makes me sweat!! LOL They are *such* a great band. :)

I'm a jazz trained, multi genre bassist and in my recent studio work for this hardcore punk band I joined: Dizeaze, we went DI, amp and pedal board in so switch between sounds after the takes. Live, I just bought the RAT distortion pedal and matched the studio distortion sound so that's obviously manual! How I approach it will depend as things grow with the band. We just recorded our first EP "I4NI" & we're dropping our single as a video soon! In another band with my best friend Samiah, it was all DI/amp tone so more raw and no real effects just a mid heavy tone to cut and the sub tone to fill in that space; the genre is more alt rock, our sound reference is 10 Years and our EP "The Flower and The Serpent" is also coming soon, likely January! Hopefully you get a chance to check em out ❤

Man thank you for doing this, I think Jinjer is a really interesting band in many ways, and I appreciate that you took the time to listen to their songs and share your insights. I'm also glad that you checked out their lyrics, I don't know many bands that manage to be technically proficient, creative and on top of that deliver such deep and meaningful stories, also amazingly written considering they're not even native English speakers. The first song you listened to (No Hoard of Value) is about the poor conditions in which miners have to work, Home Back is about the sad situation that has been going on in Ukraine for a long time, and then there are songs like Dreadful Moments (which was written by the bassist)...really intense and touching stories, for the message and the delivery.

Fantastic that you got to hear more Jinjer Geebz! Definitely one of my favourite bands. I can't remember if you have reacted to them previously, however, a metal core band from Melbourne, Aus, called Thornhill is another great band I would highly recommend reacting to. Either as some of their songs or as a slow burn to their 2019 album The Dark Pool. For that album, Thornhill has a very atmospheric metal core style, it's hands down my all time favourite album, purely because you can just fall into each and every song as they take you on a journey. You could also definitely check out their second, very experimental album, called Heroine, also a fantastic but different listen. As always, all the best and love the content!

I listen to plenty of metal bands with growls that are hard to understand, and one of the most annoying things is not being able to understand all the vocals. Reading the lyrics at least once through totally adds to the experience. It helps create that theater of the mind when you understand everything.

Look, I’m a doctoral student so unfortunately I don’t have the luxury to join the patreons communities around, even tho I’ll say this: you would enjoy so much the pain remains trilogy by Lorna Shore. I have a good antidote about the difference between hearing metal and listening to metal. Back in high school I had a teacher that came over to my little crew of metalheads and asked us about how we can listen to metal as she heard(which I'm pretty sure was Pantera) some metal being played while she was in the record store and just got kind of an angry feel inside. We all pretty much answered that when you listen, not just hear but listen, to metal it becomes a release not a trigger. It's a way to deal with it, and not just anger but just about everything.

the bridges between jazz/funk/classical/metal are very adjacent and i feel blend well as they are something technical in their own right, individually, but still fall in line musically. Yeah the band had to flee literal war in 2014 (I remember some bit of interview with Tatiana saying they saw a MIG flying over the house, loading everything in a van and fleeing west). They've been displaced since then, with the added problem of being native Russian speakers (like many in the east of Ukraine), and so being perceived with a bit of suspicion by their compatriots in the Kyiv area. So yeah, they have been feeling the war on their skin since then, way before last year's invasion. And now (since one or two months after the start of this last stretch of the conflict) they've been authorized by the government (all the male members of the band would be forbidden, 'cause they are of the age where they could serve) to go abroad and act as "cultural ambassadors" for Ukraine. They have fundraisers and merch with their logos with the Ukrainian flag colors.

'No Hoard of Value' is about the life of the coal miners. Tatiana knows first hand what their life was like because her father was one of them. The Cloud Factory album was the last one in drop C (everything after that - King of Everything, the Micro EP, Macro and Wallflowers - is in drop A). Of course, at the time they had an extra guitarist and a different drummer. 'Ape' was the first song composed by Vlad after he joined the band and it clearly changed their musical direction and identity. If one day you get the chance to interview Eugene or Roman and ask them how do they get their sound, you'll be surprised by how simple it is. 😉
