🔥Do you guys also notice the extended darkness of the track because of the "warm" approach to the mix? SO COOL🌊

It sounded pretty bloody good to me, until the last five minutes of this track. I wouldn't consider myself an afficionado of current "metalcore" either (if this is what they were going for). I found the ending disappointing, because it was so... dissociative, for lack of a better word.

People were definitely tagging you for this song primarily due to the "gotcha" moment at the end. This song will go viral because it is in the mold of Jinjer's "Pisces." But I am glad you latched on to what really makes this song great. The sound is HUGE, it is ambient and ethereal and soulful. There are so many gorgeous moments without being overbearing. Good on ya Geebz for not taking the easy react "reaction"

This is the antithesis to their previous compositional form where their songs had a heavy djent low tune breakdown on the ending to several tracks and this ends with funk. Love it! They are full of surprises and never cease to amaze. I do love the linear songwriting structure which I guess is even more prevalent in tech metal & prog styles and it seems they have returned to that more traditional sound with this track. Their previous album was impressive and catchy nonetheless more mainstream sounding.

As a sleep token fan, this song is such an evolution for them. The singer, Vessel, has done some screaming before, but it was less refined, and they haven't done many 'traditional' breakdowns before either. They also rarely do guitar solos, although there is one in their song Telomeres if I recall. The Funk elements are a wonderful edition and brings even more variety to their music. I'm so excited for more songs from them.

The funk at the end (which sounds like a Stevie Wonder in slow motion, amazing!) works as if it is proposing as a closing the original of which the first riff is a variation. If you listen to the first riff after the final funky bit, all the syncope make sense. This is a technique used in composition, you deconstruct a theme and propose it at the beginning, then use the original to close. They are also repeating the lyrics, to make it more obvious. Benjamin Britten used the technique in his Nocturnal. These guys really, really know what they are doing.

Still Here. Sleep Token have some heavier moments, but this is definitely is in the upper dirty-guitar dirty-vocal factor. Also sorry; I have to request another Earthside - We Who Lament (feat. Keturah). I know you're not one to comment on the vocals, but I can't get my head around how they engineered these vocals. Its got a really smooth but clearly changing balance, as the mezzo-alto belter shows her chops. Its clearly in different tones and volumes, without attempts to hide it, but I would expect that to be jarring. Instead its smooth. They use vocal tones as fills, but lyrical harmony is very sparse. Its an opposing side to what I'm used to. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4Wqg3Wvjaedhsk Guitarist Jamie van Dyck mixed and mastered these, and there appear to be a lot of subtle adjustments. Insight needed!

@@justinavery3903 I hear ya. I’ve actually probably listened to this song about 25 times since my comment, so clearly it has grown on me. I’ve listened to asleep Token in the past - there’s even a few songs I’m fond of though I don’t listen to them with any regularity. Really surprising some of the songs and bands you check out. It's cool getting someone outside of metal doing review that still has music background. Has anyone recommended Villagers of Ioannina City "Age of Aquarius" off the album "Age of Aquarius"? They are from Greece, and they use traditional Greek folk instruments (clarinet, bagpipes) to great effect in their music which is straight ahead Rock and Rock (not metal). The album came out 2020 right before covid, and I think it's the best rock album of 2020 (which I know there wasn't alot of competition that year). But I think they are a really good and even cool band. Very popular in Greece, and I think they have what it takes to break out of Greece be popular in Europe. They also have a Live in Athens dvd(again recorded right before Covid) and it is pretty damn good and the first song in the concert is Age of Aquarius. They are a relatively new band, together the last 5-6 years and Age of Aquarius is only their 2nd cd and sung in English (their 1st cd was sung in Greek). I find that American rock and roll is stagnant with cookie monster vocals, and I have had to branch out to find new quality bands. I spend more time listening to music, much more since I was a teen (now 50 - yeah I know), than watch tv and think I have developed a pretty good taste in music. Hope you agree. And even if you don't do a "review" I hope ya check them out for your own listening pleasure.Take care. Happy New Year.
