I had an emperor female names Knox. I didn't get her expecting the relationship that evolved. She became a friend. Went with me everywhere. Built her a 4 ft by 4 ft jungle. She lived a wonderful existence and YEARS later is still sorely missed. I'm afraid to get another one. I feel like I hit the jackpot with her and should just keep that experience without attempting to recreate it.

My scorpion boss was very friendly he used to just hang out on my shoulder and when others used to hold him he would walk off them and climb his way back to my shoulder. One day a friend dropped him and he hid away. I woke up with him sleeping on my pillow next to me. He was great little scorpion

These creatures, spiders included, are being found to be much more intelligent and aware of things than we ever thought, and it’s being found every year as medical imaging technology advances. Scorpions and spiders, things that technically should not be able to form bonds and relationships due to the fact that it requires a ton of brainpower, but they just do so anyways. That's 100% complete bullshit. A scorpion does not "pick up on" anything. It doesn't "trust" you. It's just an animal, doing whatever it feels like doing at that time, that's it. I hate it when idiots project their feelings and reasoning onto animal.

In spite of their big stinger, they are pretty docile. As long as you do not manhandle them, they are pretty chill. They prefer to run than to fight. It definitely was not showing any signs of aggression towards her. A little bit annoyed maybe, but I do not think it will ever hurt her.

Hi Kat! About the communal set up, I currently house 5 asian forest scorpions for 4 years now. Now, they are all brothers and sisters from the mom and dad I had a while back. So far in 4 years there has been no issues. 😀 They do need a bigger space though, i have the 5 of them in a 30 gallon long with enough hides for each one of them. Funny thing is, they all sleep together every single night and it's super cute! Also, I've noticed that the 3 bigger ones will come out and bring prey back to the one single hide to feed the other siblings from time to time. 😀

Same here Robert, also longterm Keeper of Asian Forests and i do agree you can keep them communally, provided they have enough space and hides (at least same amount as scorps plus at least 2 extra hides) and even more importantly you keep them well fed.. then no issues except for some fights between the males from time to time..

"Goth Lobster" 😂🖤 that is brilliant!! Jinx is gorgeous! As is her new home! I started with a couple small scorpions, one of which (South Aussie Yellow Sand scorpion) had their first birthday with me a few days ago, so thrilled they've been happy with my ownership lol. Month or so ago I got my first larger one, Flinders Ranges scorpion. She (Melonny) is half the size of Jinx, so still young, and.. gravid!! Frustratingly not eaten since I had her, but given how "chubby" she is I'm hoping it's because babies are popping out any day now! She's quite docile it seems, though maybe just tired from all the extra weight haha.. not tried handling but watching Jinx I want to (once she's had the bubs and done raising them!)

I actually got me four of these in a huge enclosure (~120cm x 50cm x 50cm, formerly inhabited by a bearded dragon but rebuild). One sadly passed away within a week but the other three did very well. Got babies three times within two years to a point where i wasn't completely sure how many even lived in there. Managed to seperate the small ones and sell around 10-15 of them back to the shop. Only handled the big one two times though since i had to be very careful with the amount of active scorpions running around in there. Loved to see them glow in the dark and watch them walk around.

I owned an Emperor some years ago, learned that for scorpions the size of the pinchers vs the tail will tell you what they are going to use the most. If large claws that is their first line of defense. They will only sting when absolutely necessary because they run the risk of it getting stuck and broken off. Large stinger means bigger venom sac and it is their first line of attack and you will most likely always be stung and best to practice safe handling techniques.

EDIT: Feel free to ignore the question at the end. Just watched your Jumping Spiders vs Tarantula's video and that basically answered the question. I'd say I'd gone down the rabbit hole, but I think it's more appropriate to say I've fallen in the spider den. Surprisingly, I'm content here, so I've finally subbed. I'm still Scorpion adjacent. They're a little less interesting to me for whatever reason. I have no intention to keep spiders, not because they bother me, but because I don't have confidence in my ability to keep them alive. I am curious about something. You've said time and time again that Tarantulas don't tame down. That they have a very simple nervous system and they'll never "recognize" you as something that isn't a threat. That's pretty clear to me from your videos as some of your Tarantulas seem to have nothing but hatred towards the world (I still find it cute, btw). My question is this: In your experience, is the same true for jumping spiders? I've seen a lot of people talking them up and gushing over how smart they are. In some instances I've heard people compare them to cats. Do you think your Phidippus spiders recognize you as anything other than a threat? Do you think they're capable of something as simple as "This is a food source. No kill," or is the spider community talking them up a bit much due to a totally understandable bias?

I’m assuming that’s your living room I dig the set up it’s about how I like mine to look. Has that warm comfortable dark aesthetic setting to it I prefer and when you turn on a light it’s not so overwhelming because the colors absorb a lot of the light which makes it extra cozy. I used to be really apprehensive about owning a scorpion for the longest time, there's no animal on the planet that I have a fear of, but after being stung by a wasp as a toddler for the longest time, I steered clear of any stinging insects especially scorpions as I always thought between the telson and the claws it was just that much easier to get stung if I had to interact with them regularly, that is until I had a fail with my first ever T a male G. roesea in middle school that didn't live long as it ended up being mature when I had got it (if only I knew to avoid chain pet stores back then) 😢 , I never kept another arachnid after that but did continue reading up on them and watching tons of videos, up until 2 wild P. undataus (Tan jumper) slings landed on me a few months ago and reignited my interest in keeping arachnids again. I ended up catching the 2 of them and also, got 2 CB regal jumpers and a CB bold jumper soon after. I ended up going all in not long after that and got a GBB with a free T.vagans from Fearnot soon after that (In august) and in the span of just a few months with my last acquisitions being a 2" Xenthitis intermidea (beautiful species if you don't have one yet btw), 4" P. irminia, 3" H. devmatha and a 1/2" G. Pulchra (finally!) a few weeks ago I now own 27 Ts of 26 different species of which 5 are Old Worlds and I ended up deciding back in august at my first repticon of 2022 that since I am now 23 and studying to be a veterinarian and wanting to specialize in exotics that I needed to get over that apprehensiveness of scorpions and so while I was there I ended up getting 2 P. imperator scorplings and another vendor had thrown in 3 H. spinifer (Asian forest) scorplings free with the C.versicolor and T.plumipes (I wish they'd get the darn re classification done with on these already lol) I got from him at the time, fast forward to last month at the last repticon of the year here in NC and In addition to my last T acquisitions I mentioned, I also came across a subadult Pandinus viatoris aka cave clawed scorpion of which I had never heard of but of course recognized the Pandiuns genus so beging that I have tons of empty enclosures laying around I of course picked it up while I was there, I guess what I am trying to say is scorpions are indeed awesome and I now own 6 in addition to a ton of amazing Ts. I still have yet to try and handle any of the scorpions yet, though, and I probably won't as I don't usually handle any of my arachnids anyway, with the only exceptions being the jumpers from time to time and, on rare occasions, my 2 Avicularia species, C. versicolor slings, and my G.plumipes sling when they try and wonder out during feeding. Maybe one day, I will try handling one of each of my 3 scorpion species just to tick it off the bucket list. 🤩

Just put them up to her mouth and she wouldn't even try to pinch me(and def not sting) just used her pincers to pull it in. I was always telling people they're gentle and make good pets. It was a hard sell for most people but the people who believed me were always happy.

If you want to pick up wild scorpions, there is a correct way to do it. You need to grab them right where the tail meets the telson. It won't hurt the creature because of their hard exoskeleton. They also can't grab you with their modified pedipalps(claws/ pincers). As you can probably tell, I'm really into this kind of stuff.

If your scorpion stings you it means you need to come back down to earth and do a little bit of wholesome screaming.

Man I miss my Asian Forest :( My girl passed away about a year ago. Right now we have a Parabuthas, Rhopalurus Junceus, (beautiful species), a very old male flat rock, and an always pissed-off deathstalker. Emperors and Asian Forest are awesome, huge scorps that just feel like little tanks in your hand. Years ago I had an African Burrowing (forgot it's name) and it's also a cool, thick bodied scorp that is very calm. Down side is you never saw the thing, but she almost had a translucent look, that very few species have. Sorry rambling....To me Scorpions and Amblypygi are just not as talked about as tarantulas in the hobby.

I played with lions and tigers in various sanctuaries in Africa, I handled snakes, spiders, bugs, insects, pretty much every animal that is considered "scary". But with scorpions...I can't. I don't know why, I'm usually not the squeamish type, especially towards animals, but just the idea of holding one makes me shiver. They genuinely scare me.

From what I read, even if you get stung by this species , it is not a big deal (unless one is allergic), the adults may not even inject venom and if they do it is like a bee sting. But Jinx seems very calm and pleased with her life so far. Animals do not attack unless they feel they have to

Ya, the larger scorpions are usually the more mellow ones, it's the smallest you have to watch out for.
