It's honestly wild to me how many Greats of Shaq's generation and before just constantly say "I was a terrible teammate and person to work with and I think that was a good thing." Maybe, just maybe, if you weren't a total asshole to your coworkers just because you could be then you could have broken Wilt's scoring record. Maybe, just maybe, being a objectively bad person to interact with was actually a hinderance to you. "I told shooters to shut the f up and stand in the corner." "I love playing with shooters." These two things to not go together. You were being an asshole and actively hindering your team's success. This is just an objective fact of how reality works.

what I find more strange is how many of them absolutely idolized Bill Russell. Kobe read his books, Shaq has immense respect for Russell and yet they seemingly missed all of the parts that made him not only a great teammate but great leader and winner. Yes, several of those Boston teams were clearly better but the last few years of Russell's career the Celtics weren't more talented than everyone else. They were up there but other teams had as much if not a bit more and they still won and his former teammates absolutely would run through a wall for him. He epitomized great leadership and Shaq and Kobe, two guys who are very self-aware, just ignored a lot of those lessons.
