I don't even think today's players are that much more athletic than the 80s and 90s. Dominique Wilkins, Shawn Kemp, David Robinson are more athletic than most players today. These players were dunking with their chin above the rim. A lot of today's dunks are so ugly, even on the fast break they do standard dunks. Some of them can't even finish a dunk in traffic. Some of them can barely reach the rim. I don't see many of them as fast as Iverson. I don't see many of them as strong as Shaq and Malone.

MJ leaving if Phil leaves and Lebron meddling in the front office are two different scenarios. In the former scenario, MJ is honorably standing up for a coach who was told that he wasn't going to keep his job even if the Bulls were 82 and 0. In the latter, Lebron is making managerial decisions as a regular employee. I hope Lebron fanboys aren't that delusional to believe that these circumstances are similar.

@@XiuHang Please point to a coach other than Blatt who Lebron got fired. Here are the other candidates: 1. Paul Silas: Fired during Lebron's second year. Barely-20 Lebron wasn't getting coaches fired. 2. Luke Walton: Fired by front office when he couldn't get anything out of the young players. No indication Lebron played a role. 3. Frank Vogel: I never heard any negativity from Lebron's camp about him. That was a front office decision as well, though he was indeed a scapegoat. 4. Darvin Ham: Lost the locker room and was frankly unqualified. Russell, Davis, and Reaves were all taking shots at him in the media. Those are all the other candidates, and Lebron doesn't have his fingerprints on any of them.

Yeah me too. I been like this for 4-5 years to be honest. The NBA is just weird...I heard someone say Paul George makes some team a contender...I'm like this isn't 12-13 years ago. These teams keep signing and thinking these older players are still top notch. The Lakers are basically forfeiting any chance to win a title to appease and aged superstar that could never carry a team like Mike or Kobe.

also about the shooting, comparing different eras can be unfair: players from the 90s excelled in post play and midrange shooting because that was the dominant style of the time, whereas players from the 2010s have focused more on three-pointers and pull-up shots, often lacking the same proficiency in post and midrange play. The style of play in any given era is heavily influenced by the prevailing rules of the game. The average midrange shooter in the 90s shoots at 45 to 47, which is already the best in this era. Then this era has better 3 point FG% because that is the dominant style of play. the more attempts, the more players become proficient.
@dmark32

@@momo.ru-kun 💯Stop making sense lol. They don't want to hear facts. It's evident to us but not to the casuals who post often. I watched Jordan in college, the Olympics, and his entire NBA career. From the 80s until now, the NBA had different rules (as you stated), influencing how the game was played and what players focused on. And if today's players, who focus more on three-point shooting, are so much better, why has every Jordan scoring record not been broken? You have outliers, of course, like Steph Curry, who reached the three-point record milestone faster than anyone who had the record before him, but that is because of the focus on three-point shooting in this era (plus he is really good at shooting).

Durant who is arguably the best midrange shooter in this era shoots 46% too with his best season at 50% however MJ makes 547 shots, 500+ a season, Kobe is the next with the most makes in his very best season in 2006 with only 414. The most proficient is Jerry Sichting who shoots a crazy 58% then Malone at 53%. I look at this things as a historian and a statistician, they played before I was even born. lol Im a Zennial. Just watching rebroadcasts I can clearly see the difference. Scottie Pip is a guy you dont even rely on midrange shots but he shoots at 45-46% which is already elite in this current game.

As a Laker fan, it is absolutely devastating. The franchise went from a historic team of the West that always strived for Championships to a Hollywood Klutch Sports CIRCUS. What they are doing with hiring JJ, keeping a 40 year old Lebron, and drafting his son is basically a going out of business move and nothing more. There is no future for the Lakers once Lebron leaves it dry from all the terrible decisions he was involved with ever since he made the organization fire Luke Walton and trade all our young core.

This LAL hire doesn’t impress me, but is not something I would say “is the reason why today’s NBA sucks.” Those reasons are, 1) bad officiating - rules in the rulebook, yet rarely enforced. I don’t like seeing traveling, palming, double-dribble, offensive fouls in the form of cheap initiation of contact for FTs, flopping, tedious overadjudication of physical contact. 2) boring play - I would like to see more creative & unpredictable offense instead of guys jogging 3PT-line to 3PT-line flinging up stupid-ass step back 3s, step-to-the-side 3s (I don’t think MPJ is capable of shooting a 3 without doing that dumb-ass step-to-the-left thing every time) or predictable drive-and-kick. 3) stupid play - It’s amazing how often a player will have a wide open shot within 5ft and kick out to the arc. What really irks me is a 3-on-1 fast break being, somehow, hard for teams to execute. You just hold the ball ‘till the last second and then pass to a teammate. Guaranteed layup/dunk. Somehow they bungle it routinely. The easiest 2 points possible, and they bungle it. Passing too soon, passing too late, one or both of the streaking teammates flare out to the arc instead of filling the lane for the guaranteed points, etc. I like intense competition. Everyone says, “people want to see scoring.” Not me; not if it makes for a boring game. If teams are having trouble scoring because they’re playing great defense, well…that’s good competition. If teams are scoring easily by doing cheap stuff offensively and playing weak defense…bad competition. I like seeing smart, well-executed offense seeking high% shots against good/smart defense.
@MrSheduur
@MrSheduur 6 ай бұрын
yep, there really is a problem with the play of teams not looking very structured anymore. I saw a play this season where I think it was Boston, were on a 3 on 1 fastbreak, had an easy layup, but the guy who was basically through to the basket, decided to not make the layup and instead pass it out to one of the masterminds who put himself at the threepoint line, to let it fly from there. And of course, he missed it and the ball went out of bounds... Welcome to the new NBA. As much as I can understand the logic behind the statistics of 3 is worth more than two and how much you have to shoot from outside for the 3 to be more effective than shooting twos, but in NO WAY is a layup where you have zero resistance from the beaten opponent a less effective way to score than passing it up and give it to a 3pt shooter. This completely shows how messed up the thinking of the current generation of players and coaches is.

JJ Redick, like most Duke star players, was great in college but, his game never translated well in the NBA. I do agree with you on your point of JJ Redick disrespecting the stars or players of the past should disqualify him from coaching. He is basically there due to Jeanie wanting to please Lebron. Lebron is not a cash cow anymore.

The Lakers aren't serious about a championship that's what this told me. You know just because you HAVE money and HAVE history doesn't mean it's always gonna be that way. The idea of Big Market, Small Market means so little these days. Back maybe 30 years ago living in LA meant something. There's no difference in living LA or San Antonio nowadays. You don't need it for media exposure and you don't need it to live the high life. You don't need to be apart of a legacy you can build your own anywhere.

Yeah I think they rather go with the entire star power thing and the dumb media stunt of father and son on one team, and the whole legacy of Lebron ends in LA thing. It is a catch 22 for them. They had an image of being out of touch and stuck in the past, some years a bunch of big name free agents passed on the Lakers offers, and when they got Lebron they had someone that would attract free agents to come over, so I guess they will try everything to show everyone that the Lakers are the franchise to go to because they treat their stars the right way, like they did with Kobe before, and now Lebron aswell... This is really the only logical reasoning I can think off when looking at this entire mess. It makes me sad.

Yeah it is a dumb narrative. They have access to better training methods, yet the rate of injuries of NBA players has gone up dramatically through the past decades and players are resting more than ever before in NBA history too. I have no doubt that the pace has gone up, but that is only because defenders are barely allowed to touch or look at someone now. The entire league looks like an RNG three pointing shooting simulator now.

I would not concede that today's NBA players are more athletic. Sure Ja and Zion are crazy athletic but so were Kemp and Jordan and before them Wilt was pretty darn athletic too. That is no disrespect to the modern NBA player. I think every generation has there greats. But JJ clearly doesn't agree. How can anyone suggest Bird or Reggie Miller weren't great shooters because of their volume? What JJ needs to learn is that shooters like him got the opportunity to shoot because guys like Reggie and Larry proved the 3 point line was a strategic element of the game and not limited to an act of desperation when the shot clock is expiring. If they add a 4 point line to the NBA it will be BECAUSE of what players like Steph and Dame are doing today. Will JJ challenge their greatness and impact on the game because they only had 35-40 4 point shots a season?

It would have been nice if Cassell was hired for The Lakers Head Coach position, but it would of just been Sam and LeBron just clashing with each other. Lakers Front Office just got some guy to parade as The Head Coach, so LeBron can make all of the coaching calls, whether he's on the floor or on the bench. Hopefully LeBron's coaching duties doesn't interfere with his General Manager duties.

Jordan making that statement about leaving if they didn't hire Jackson was totally different. That team was still untouchable and they were sabotaging it over ego and personal grudges when they had several years of dominance left. That's entirely different from Lebron just being a spoiled brat and demanding everyone else bow to him or take the fall for him.

I loved to hate him, when I was a kid, but you couldn’t help but want him on your team too. LOL! It was just so much fun to watch him play. Magic was brilliant. Bird was phenomenal. The passes and baskets he made, and the way the made them, were jaw-dropping. You CAN see it watching a KZbin game. That little boy just doesn’t want to admit that he’s no where near the greatness of the old school players. That’s the only explanation for being so blind to the tapes truths.

Another great video, Bro. I agree with 99% of what you said, so you’re very spot on, in my humble opinion. First of all, JJ was a role player. He was a decent shooter and a defensive liability. He did play hard though, I’ll give him that. But when it comes to the NBA and even to former Duke players, he wasn’t great. And he couldn’t carry Hall of Famer Bob Cousy’s lunch. Second, his disrespect is widespread. I would think he would be a little more mature than to trash proven Hall of Fame players and proven winning coaches. He and Paul George both disrespected Doc Rivera who has won a championship and won Coach of the Year in Orlando with an injury riddled roster. But what have they done without him? I’ll wait. One thing I disagree with you is regarding Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson. The two of them had a proven track record. Anyone in their right mind would’ve bent over backwards to keep them together. But the owner/GM had already gotten their new arena and season ticket holders up the wazoo… They made an idiotic, egotistical move. And the franchise hasn’t really recovered. I’ll say one other thing. It’s possible JJ is trashing former Celtics legends to appease LeBron who dislikes the C’s. But JJ’s disrespect has gone beyond the Celtics. As a Celtics fan I look forward to the Lakers crashing and burning over the next few years. JJ will be fired. AD will shoot his way out of town. LeBron’s legacy will be further tarnished. Maybe Rob Pelinka will finally get his comeuppance. It will be so much fun to watch!!

At least the plumbers and firemen had real jobs, they were real men. I take them against a team of KZbinrs any day of the week. You know why today's games don't look as good as the old games? With all the players being more athletic than ever, more skilled than ever, more rules protecting them than ever, they don't have to TRY anymore. That's what it is. People watch sports for one thing: the EFFORT TO WIN! Whether you're Michael Jordan or the last guy on a high school team. If your goal is to win, the effort you show is the same. That's what competition is all about. MJ wasn't the most skilled player or the most physically dominant player in his days. But it's his desire and determination to win that attracted fans all around the world. That's something everyone, sports fan or not, can recgonize. Most of the players in the old days showed effort in how hard they were trying, regardless how flawed their skills were or whatever they were missing. They made up for it with their heart and strong will, and that's what made the competition fierce and the games look good. Today's players are loaded on skills and abilities, but a lot less heart and commitment.

On accounts of “being athletic” I think the definition or perception has changed a bit. Now it just means fast and jump high. E.g Morant. That, combined with the artificial space the NBA has created led to the “dunks and 3 pointer” league. But these types of players are hurt or injured all the time and they need some rest every now and then. Probably to go shopping for their next pre game outfits
