I’ve thought about replacing it, but it still works so well. Also, it’s hard to find a sequel to such a great set. I’ve considered getting Speed Queen or Miele. Or possibly just getting the updated version of these from LG. Any suggestions from anyone?
@washingandmowing153 ай бұрын
Get the upgraded version, speed queen isn’t worth the hype. Miele is decent but small. New LGs are even quieter and have a new turbo wash system. But, I’d say just fix these until they break down really bad.

We have had this washer and dryer for a couple years now and absolutely love it. We initially purchased this set because of its capacity. I was so sick of taking our king comforter to the laundry mat. We now have our first child who is 2 months old and we use cloth diapers. This washer does an incredible job at getting them clean. If there is one recommendation I would make for future washer and dryers it would be to invent a way to send an end of cycle message to your cell phone. My laundry room is in the basement and it would be so nice to know right when the cycle is complete so I can start the next load. One day I hope.

7 YEARS in the business. I have gone threw lots of frontloaders. But LG has put some good effort on making these machines. It is awesome to see how much spin speeds they have added to this model. Simply the techniques of destributing clothes, sensing load, spin direction change and that lovely way of tossing the clothes from side to side explains how much technology has advanced with LG. On the tech side, SUPER EASY to work on. Love it!! All you other old school people with toploaders, not just because toploaders use more water means it cleans better. We compared the differences and ultimately decided on the 8100 because they are stack-able whereas the 9100 is not and we also got a killer deal from Lowe's who had an ad that said they would beat any advertised price by 10%... Absolutely couldn't pass that deal lol... Enough about my story... This was probably one of the best videos I've watched on these machines... +JJCoolStuff Im really concerned about the stuff I'm reading about the spin cycle. some folks are saying if you wash things like beach towels with your swim trunks or area rugs (we do often) that it will be an "unbalanced" load and the spin cycle will never happen. Is this the case. I don't want to be left with soaking wet rugs and beach towels. this might be show stopper for me. Also do you know if the kenmore is the same as the LG. They seem quite similar
@Jjcoolstuff9 жыл бұрын
I tried to touch on this in the review a little. If you wash one really heavy thing by itself then you'll get an unbalanced load and it won't complete. We wash beach towels, oversized towels, blankets, rugs, etc with no problems. The only time I've had an issue is if you only wash a rug by itself or with just a couple of small items. Then it can't offset that weight and you get an uneven load error. Otherwise, this thing handles heavy loads really well and does a great job repositioning clothes if they get unbalanced and using bearings in the drum to offset uneven loads. I wouldn't be concerned about it at all unless you like to wash rugs one at a time. If that's the case then throw in a few towels with it to help balance things. After all, you've certainly got the capacity to do so.

My parents replaced their poor performing SpeedQueen front loader with the LG with the normal sized drum and I was blown away. The water during rinse makes an amazing difference. With the SpeedQueen, soap never came out of the towels - they were matted down and musty smelling. With the LG, on one wash they came out fluffy and smelling better. In fact the same towels wouldn't fit back in the cupboard they came out of (heck yes I rewashed them all - worth it!). I have a Whirlpool Duet HT that is still chugging along but the violent spin cycle on it has me wishing my Whirlpool would break and give me an excuse to replace them. The LG's are absolutely silent when washing, and you can barely hear a faint whir on high speed spin. Simply amazing. Never thought I would gush about a washer/dryer combo, but they NOT all built the same. Whatever they are doing, LG stomps the crap out of any other set I have used.

I have a ridiculous obsession with laundry. I love bleach, laundry detergent, fabric softener, ext. I love the smell, cleanliness, softness. I love everything about it. I like to over use everything I just have this need to basically triple the amount of what I use. I rigged my top loader so I can watch the clothes wash with the lid open. I always reset the washer before it drains and I do it as many times as I feel. So instead of the washing cycle lasting only 16 minutes it will wash for 45 minutes. Then continue the cycle. But after watching your video I would like to purchase this set. Do you think it would be good for me? Considering my habit? How well does it wash whites? Will I be satisfied with how much product can be used?
@Jjcoolstuff9 жыл бұрын
The normal cycle on this unit is around 45 minutes anyway. It has a clear door obviously and you can turn on the drum light to watch things. With the six motions it has it can be mesmerizing. My kids and I used to watch the laundry as it washed for the first few minutes. You don't want to use too much product, but you can always do multiple extra rinses. I really only use about a tablespoon of detergent each time. There is a bright white cycle and with the bleach compartment it will wash your whites well. I hope this helps.

I purchased the 4.6 cu ft. version of the washer and could not be happier. As the reviewer says, use the Turbo Wash whenever you are able; it thoroughly saturates the clothes and shaves off 10% of the washing time. Regarding the water hammer sound, I have high water pressure, and I did purchase the water hammer arrestors, however, when the installers came they told me they would not install the arrestors because that would negate the warranty, so I decided to not install them. Did NOT need them at all; the sound of the water being pumped was no louder than the top loaded this washer replaced. Cleaning is excellent; pre-treated stains come out and everything smells fresh. I do recommend you use much less soap - no need to fill the soap cup to the normal line; when the Turbo Wash is on there are plenty of suds even using as little as 2 tablespoons of detergent. Very happy with this washer: its fast, quiet, well-balanced and cleans amazingly. I have not used the steam feature yet, but I am looking forward to it. Yes, I am a laundry nerd, I admit it! This is a great washing machine as well as a dryer and after a lot of research I have to say this video was the one that convince me to purchase this particular model washer and dryer. I purchased the laundry pair January 2017. Between then and now the washer itself has had two service calls for the same issue. Today, I have to go where I purchase the laundry pair and get a whole new washer because according to the retailer I can only get a floor model because they have decided to discontinue LG washers. At first I thought I just received a defected washer but I’m not so sure now. All I have to say is I’m glad that I got the extended warranty otherwise I would’ve had to come up with another $1300. In fairness to the machine it did a pretty good job of cleaning clothes my machine shut down within 15 minutes of the wash cycle and water had to be drained manually. Primarily I bought this model washer for sheer capacity as well as its ability to determine water level and time of wash.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve had these issues. That’s certainly not been my experience or I wouldn’t have recommended them so highly. It also sounds like you are working with a poor retailer. I know this is a 5 year old video, but I have to put in my input on it. I got my first front loader in 1999, a Frigidaire model, and at the time, was only 2 models available made for the US market (the other was the Maytag Neptune made by Maytag). Compared newer washers, it filled s third of the way up the tub, and did a good job getting my clothes clean. The longest cycle was only 50 minutes. I only replaced it, because the bearings were about to give out, and my 15 year old Hotpoint dryer stopped working completely. In February 2012, I bought the entry level LG front loader, which at the time was 3.6 cu. ft., but now 4.5 cu ft is now the smallest size. Anyway, the entry level model doesn't offer turbo wash, and LG makes the entry level washer to fill in a rising effect. So when I did my first few washes, I saw no water on most of my clothes. After letting my washer fill without clothes, and the tub had a shallow amount of water. Makes me think whoever at the EPA thought front loaders are only meant to be filled at the most, half way with clothes. Front loaders are meant to be filled loosely to the top, then when wet, be 2/3 of the way full. So I went against the manufacturers settings, and adjusted the water level to closely match the water level of my old washer, just so every piece of clothing got wet. I'm happy to see my clothes get clean. It's now 8 years old, and still working. My next LG will have the turbo wash, but I expect to still have to adjust the water level, if the factory settings are not able to get all my clothes wet. My next washer will be bigger than needed, since they're (washer makers) not making many washers less than 4 cu.ft. I just wished washers didn't have all these extra settings that I feel are unneccessary. I got by just fine with just 6 cycles on my first front loader, though I only used 2. On my current model, I only use just 1, and have to manually add an extra rinse, so it does 3 rinses.
@Jjcoolstuff9 жыл бұрын
sprinkleonthesparkle I'm guessing you mean front loaders in general. These washers use plenty of water and your clothes get very clean. Maybe you were using the wrong cycle or something. My kids and I constantly put muddy dirty clothes in these and they come out very clean. We do occasionally use the prewash if the clothes are very dirty to wash off the excess dirt first. But it's far from just rolling around in a semi wet ball. The dryer also has a temperature sensor and you can adjust it to not get your clothes so dry if you'd prefer. Ours never come out too dry and smelling burned. Occasionally they will come out not quite dry enough if it's just one or two things in there, but you can increase the amount of dryness on the sensor and all is good.

I have been a tech for 37 years and according to Consumer Reports the LG is the top rated front loader. The unfortunate thing though on front loaders is they use a cheap cast aluminum inner drum bracket called a “spider bracket”. This is consistent with about 99% of all brands. As soon as you add your first dose of laundry detergent it attacks the bracket, corroding it and causing it to break over time. Sometimes it will happen before the bearings wear out. Diagnosed a Samsung 2 year old front load washer which had this catastrophic failure. This whole problem could be solved if the manufacturers would paint the bracket before installation with an epoxy aircraft paint. Makes it impervious to the chemicals in the detergent. They have to know this, they just don’t do it for the simple reason... greed!

6:50 I've learned that Tide Washing Machine Cleaner works significantly better than Whirlpool's Afresh. Also, my LG top loader works very well, and my grandmother may be getting a new washer soon. I'm considering a front loader for her, so how do you like this machine today?
@Jjcoolstuff9 жыл бұрын
I'm still loving it. In my opinion the front loaders clean better and are more gentle on your clothes while using less water. But I don't have a lot of experience with newer HE top loaders without an agitator. These machines still work great though and save us a ton of time on laundry because of the capacity. I'm still very happy with them.

That's been the most popular question for sure. Some of the buttons have secondary functions written slightly smaller on the button than the main function. Find the button that says "drum light" and touch and hold it for three of four seconds until the light comes on. It will then stay on for about four minutes and automatically turn off.

Calla Smith We load this washer pretty heavily on a weekly basis and haven't had any balance or vibration issues. Our previous LG did so I know where you're coming from. My wife just washed a 3x6 rug in it tonight and it did great. We wash rugs and large towels (10+) in it all the time. I also regularly wash a thick Pottery Barn twin comforter, the fitted sheet, and the flat sheet together with no issues. LG has a really great video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/enfQoJmJjM-mibM) that explains all the technology they put into keeping their washer balanced and it really works. As I mentioned in my review, if it gets off balanced it will stop and redistribute the clothes until it gets it right. Also, if you wash one small rug by itself it won't be able to counter balance that and instead of walking all over your laundry room it will just give you an uneven load error and let you know that it can't wash it. Just make sure you wash 2-3 small rugs together and you'll be fine.
@Jjcoolstuff9 жыл бұрын
You can't keep the light on during the entire cycle. Once the cycle starts you can turn the light on by pressing and holding the button labeled "drum light". You have to hold it for a good four seconds at least. After that the drum light will stay on for a few minutes and then turn back off. You're able to immediately turn it back on again by holding the drum light button. I'm not aware of a way to make it stay on during the cycle though. Otherwise how do you like it thus far?
@Jjcoolstuff9 жыл бұрын
I don't recall hearing a crackling noise. I washed a small load just now to listen for it but I was using the hand wash cycle so there was very little spinning. Are you referring to the spinning while washing and rinsing or the spinning at the end to extract the water? Hopefully the four transit bolts were removed from the back when it was installed, otherwise it will make lots of noise and can damage the unit.
@Jjcoolstuff9 жыл бұрын
Two things come to mind. It's possibly the water being extracted from the clothes and slinging out of the inner drum or its the atomizing rinse spraying on the clothes while it's spinning. Either way it's probably water you're hearing. I washed three loads yesterday and kept meaning to try to hear it but was never by the washer during the spin cycle. You can definitely hear the water when it's filling up with water but it's not obnoxiously loud. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

@Jjcoolstuff9 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure there would be enough interest in a video like that. However I will mention that I have kids that get their clothes very messy and this unit does a great job of removing stains. You can adjust the "soil level" when choosing the cycle. LG then uses the different wash actions to clean the clothes very well. You'll get much better results than submerging your clothes in water and sloshing them around like in a top loader. You can also choose to prewash if the clothes are really dirty to clean off excess dirt with a first pass before the actual wash cycle. Thanks for the question and hopefully this helps.

We are looking for a new washer and dryer for our house in Florida, the one we have here will stay here because we also want to keep this house but I told my parents I’m not coming back here once we move to Florida so I said yeah we need to get appliances and stuff that we need LOL. We have been looking for a nice washer and this video helped me out I will suggest it to them! We have never had a front load before I don’t think. But I heard they are a lot better than top loads. I did have a question. Is it safe to use laundry pods in the front load? We use the oxy clean pods.
@arkasza20075 жыл бұрын
Yup. It doesnt make any difference if you use gel, pod or powder detergent. If you use pods just toss it into the tub together with the cloths. I am using front-load WM for over 20 years because there are ones that are thinner/slimmer than top-loaded ones and they fit into my bathroom perfectly (charms of living in small apartments in eastern europe). New top-load WMs just spin cloths around with a few centimeters of water which is not as effective as tossing cloths with water in front-load WM. Greetings :D
@YourFellowRNRSisterFan985 жыл бұрын
Yep, I don’t know why I asked that I should have known LOL. But we had no other option really about two years ago when our washing machine went out we only had like $500 to spend on a washer so we got a Kenmore top load washer. But now that we are doing well financially and we are moving into another house sometime this year or next year we are thinking about going for a more efficient front load. Because they wash better and because the hook ups are actually underneath the kitchen counter. There’s a washer and dryer hook up right under the kitchen counter and my mom wanted one that way because she got sick of having to separate everything to go to the laundry room and to the kitchen LOL. What part of Europe do you live in?
@arkasza20075 жыл бұрын
@@YourFellowRNRSisterFan98 I do live in Poland. It is rare (in my country) to have a dryer (mostly because of space limits) so I can't relate to that. But if it comes to washing machines I don't think that in these days we should spend tons of money for new electronic devices which can die few days after warranty expiration (at least such things happen in Europe - my neighbour's TV had 2 years of warranty and exactly few days after warranty expiration TV's screen stopped working..). I think it is a special move of all companies to fuel consumerism on the market. Also in my country it is common to have smaller washing machines max 8KG (4 CU ft - I think - not sure - the Internet is not sure either :D). I do live with my parents and we have a small 4 KG washing machine which is enough (2-3 washing cycles per week). Although it is hard to wash huge sets of bedding (I mean duvets/comforters must be washed separately but we do not do that often as we put these into covers (I don't know how bedding looks/works like in US :D))
@YourFellowRNRSisterFan985 жыл бұрын
arkasza2007 it’s sorta the same, I don’t watch my bedding but twice every month or two, then again I only have 2 pillows and a body pillow and a fitted sheet and a small blanket, and I can measure with the European measurement, my mother was born and raised in the Netherlands. She’s been in America since 1974. So it’s still good size washer. But yeah simply cause she is Dutch (not speaking for all Dutch/European families) she knows about space limits! A well presented review, these machines have many sophisticated features and functions. The more important question is what is the design life of these new machines, will they provide reliable service for 20+years? After reading a number of horror stories related to these expensive appliances I remain skeptical, all this functionality becomes useless when the consumer is left with a relatively new machine that requires an expensive repair or a repair cost the exceeds the value of the machine. What's the track record from LG, and do they back their products with reasonably priced service. Can you comment on these issues, thank you.
@Jjcoolstuff9 жыл бұрын
LG is rated as the most reliable washer by consumer reports. I think broadly speaking they are very reliable. 20+ years is probably a stretch for a machine like this though. The motor is warrantied for ten years but we all know the electronics are what's going to die first. And we've all heard those horror stories. I've owned two LG washers and have never had to have them serviced so I don't know how reasonably priced that is. I have heard that their customer service isn't that great, but I think that's to be expected with a huge foreign company. I don't have any direct experience with their customer service though. I know most of that doesn't answer your questions, but with a reliable track record from consumer reports and a ten year warranty on the motor I feel pretty good about it. It's probably not going to last as long as some of the higher end brands, but only time will tell. Thanks for the comment and question.

I had mine installed 1 week ago and the repair man that installed it said that they usually last between 12-15 years. My last washer made 9 years or so, the tenth year was frustrating washer leaked, won't rinse, won't spin it even gave us electric shocks if you touch it with bare wet hands so we ended in the laundromat. BTW the dryer after 30+ years of service is still going strong only with few repairs now a neighbor has it. I was looking forward to getting my new machines delivered hopefully they will last at least 9 years their performance is awesome I had never had cleaner clothes and the new dryer drys every load in 20-30 minutes I was impressed with the drying speed didn't know you could dry clothes that fast. When I wash all the Gym clothes (lots of it) they came out almost dry that I don't put them in the dryer I just hang them and put them in the closet with the doors open so they don't start to smell. Best money spent ever. PD: my only complaint are that the exterior part of the washer door is made of plastic and already have some scratches.

+Rodrigo garcia thanks for the additional input. Glad to hear you're so happy with your set. We also have some things that we can hang up straight out of the washer since it spins so much water out of them. I usually will still dry those items for 5 minutes or so just to help with wrinkles.

I would never expect 20 years. I here looking because my LG set is now 15 years old and definitely on their way out.
