The difference is simple, MMA has controlled brutality (sport) and JKD is just brutality (real combat). Enough said.

JKD can be adjusted to fit MMA rules.There should be a JKD representative by now.
@SuperMaryu767 Жыл бұрын
@borbolensborbolens5640 If JKD was adjusted to MMA rules then it would not be JKD. What makes JKD is exactly what the UFC bans and it wouldn’t be much of a fight to watch if the opponent is destroyed via broken leg in the first 30 seconds. Bruce described his fighting approach as "efficient street fighting with everything goes."

JKD is seen today (and was proposed by Bruce Lee) as more of a philosophy for fighting. "Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own." That is the philosophy and it represents exactly what MMA does. MMA is the evolution of Jeet Kune Do, albeit not the style Bruce used.
@Xannyphantom9054 ай бұрын
I don't see how it's not the same style when Bruce Lee practiced all the styles Cage fighters practice. The bouncy footwork is the only difference and he got that from a boxer.
@axelstone3131Ай бұрын
Incorrect. Did you even watch the video? Also, that’s a Dan Inosanto quote, Bruce Lee never said it. Because that would mean JKD is anything you want. That’s not how it works. MMA is nothing like JKD. JKD has completely different footwork, body mechanics and structure. It’s sad to think Bruce spent all this time developing a highly refined and dynamic martial art only for people like you to think it’s nothing more than just a “philosophy”
@axelstone3131Ай бұрын
@@Xannyphantom905incorrect. Watch the video. Actually fencing is a large part of the reason why JKD works. It enables explosive power and fast closing speed to end the confrontation quickly. You guys can’t differentiate Bruce Lee in his movies to how Bruce Lee actually fought.

There are enough things you can train and refine by yourself. You see, people who think training can be only done in a gym environment with other people, they usually don't get far enough. A lot of thingws are only to by done by individual refinement. Partner training is only a part of the whole training.

I Will go to a seminar in Glasgow every year and get tested so I can open an oficial group as an instructor. You can also check out Jason Koroll's Greenville academy of Martial Arts. The only way to adapt to someone's fighting style that you are not familliar with is to learn the nature of that style and make it a part of your arsenal. Even Bruce have to learn some judo and wrestling to understand the danger of grappling
@ThomasMarxJKD3 жыл бұрын
In other words, you grapple a grappler, box a boxer and kick a teakwoodo man?
@jaketheasianguy33073 жыл бұрын
@@ThomasMarxJKD no, that's not what i mean. See the UFC1 for example, it has almost no rules like the old Vale Tudo, the strikers who are used to only kicking and punching people got crushed everytime Royce shoot for the double leg and choked them out, they don't understand what's going on because they have never seen that before. And people created multiple strategy to counter "the Gracie takedown" yet none suceed because they don't understand how grappling works Today strikers don't even like grappling but they learn some basic grappling for 1 purpose, to defend against the grappler attacks, to stand up and throw strikes again.
@jaketheasianguy33073 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean in those anti grappling videos of yours, yet that mindset created because you live in a time where everyone who trained martial art know how dangerous grappling is. Mind point is simple, understand grappling to avoid grappling with a grappler. If you re a grappler than you must understand striking to avoid a boxing and kicking contest with a striker.
@ThomasMarxJKD3 жыл бұрын
That Vale tudo argument is old. Even though there were less rules, there were rules, and also the fighters came from styles training under style rules, still using same tactics There is a reason for those rules, they are in place to protect fighters. Makes sence right. If a gun is restricted by law in a country, the reason is effectiveness of it. I really can't get around my head, how people are ignoring this logic fact. If Ufc fighter could use certain tactics, you would see shift in a fighting styles there over time, because it would take time till they figure it out. Simple as that.

JKD is most certainly a mixture of technique from various martial arts; boxing, savate, kali, wing chun, grappling etc. and therefore technically is “MMA”. JKD hobbyists and enthusiasts aside, the average JKD practitioner is doing himself a great disservice if they haven’t adapted to the times and incorporated actual MMA training into their arsenal.
