From the trivia page of this movie on IMDB: "Steven Seagal had two crew members to help him during the most physical scenes, like walking or getting up of a chair. Another member of the cast carried an oxygen balloon for Seagal, for him to use after scenes in which he had to do some effort like, you know, interacting with his colleagues. Shooting had to be stopped many times whenever Seagal demanded food. Director Olen Ray said that one time, when he talked to Seagal and he didn't answered, he thought Seagal had died, because he wasn't moving and his dark sunglasses blocked his eyes. He had vomited the food and was laying still over the table, and had to be reanimated."

One example is when actress Charlene Amoia, who plays whats-her-name, asks Steven Seagal if he was as good as they said he was, "they" meaning the food caterers who worked on the set and had to work around the clock to provide food for Seagal. Director Olen Ray, who had the cameras on, liked the line and added it to his picture, saying "Steven, God bless his enlarged heart, answered 'every once in a while', taking it kindly, and worked well in the picture"."

The old Colonel is Dale Dye. He is a decorated Marine veteran from Vietnam. He was what is considered a "Mustang" in the Marine Corp. He climbed the ranks of the enlistment to Master Sergeant and then was appointed to be a warrant officer. When he retired in 1984 he was a Captian. Mustang officers are the most respected of Officer is the Marine Corp. They chewed the same ground as the normal grunts. He is a Bronze Star winner with Valor. He definitely is old at 78 to play this part, but he has earned that. He has been in a ton of Military movies. His goal when he joined Hollywood was to make war movies more realistic. One of his first films, I think it was his first was Platoon. He also worked in Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers, amongst several others. He has definitely helped some films become very realistic. Unfortunately, nothing he can do for this movie. I am sure no one listened to him and he was there for the check. Not a bad plan at 78.

I firmly believe this movie is a visual representation of how Steven actually views himself in the context of real life. To be clear when I was in infantry school at Ft.Benning in 2004 my battle buddy was this great guy named Chauncey Jinx. While he would go on to become one of my closet friends, his lack of overall common sense and intellect was substantial enough that he stood out, in a company of 100+ guys who picked an MOS in the Army that generally attracts those types of people as you can choose the 11B MOS with a measily ASVAB score of 35. For some contrast I’m confident my cat would score a 45. Anyway, good ol Jinx, who at one point I had to explain the many reasons why we, as infantrymen were guaranteed to deploy which came as genuine shock to him, is millions of times more deadly of a combatant than Segal on his best day living in his fantasy world .

That’s always one of my favorite things about movies in modern conflict, the t-ban or whomever the bad guy is always sprints into the open, takes a Slav squat and starts hammering rounds, when in reality, 90% of those dudes fire from a window, alley, from behind some rocks/trees/bushes and then just disappear entirely. Rarely do they fully engage and if they do it’s because they figure they have the upper hand. Not too many movies do the enemy justice in their wanting-to-not-die department. Lol
@miniclip11622 жыл бұрын
yeah, its either propaganda at this point... or they dont respect their viewers intelligence.

Yeah military movies and shows are almost always horrendously stupid like that. Do they not get that these are supposed to be real human beings who definitely don't want to die? Oh yeah sure I'll just stand out in the open, that's smart. The entire reason these conflicts even happen and last for so damn long is because *both* sides are trained to fight. Just because one force might be lower tech doesn't mean they're all like cavemen or some shit(see Vietnam) It's just like they have to make the enemy the bad guys rather than actual people, so they just do stupid crap. Meanwhile our excellent heroes do the opposite and run around like they're in Call of Duty racking up hundreds of kills.
@odstarmor5572 жыл бұрын
It's a stupid cliche to make the protagonist look good as they mercilessly murder a bunch of people. It's fine to have the invincible hero.....if the setting makes sense (and even then) but far too many writers dont respect the setting or the pieces in the story so you get the typical mook that just stands in place like a target dummy instead of a real believable being. Like not using any pratical battle tactics despite being in a real world war setting.

So about 8 years older than Seagal.

Yeah. He was 72 years old when this was filmed. 72. And he was a Lieutenant Colonel. To put that into perspective, I retired in 2018 as a LTC at age 46. And I was enlisted for 6 years before I Mustanged up to officer. So most of my peers where 40-42. So Dale Dye’s character almost 30 years older than me and the same rank. @@Tiago-zg7vl And doesn’t have to do anything. And he wasn’t a Colonel. He was a Lieutenant Colonel. In the Army, especially in Infantry or Special Operations, both of those ranks have to do what their men do. He does PT every morning, goes on ruck marches, does the obstacle course, lives in the field for weeks at a time, goes to various weapon ranges…There’s a lot to it physically and mentally. The President doesn’t have those requirements. If, to be the POTUS, you had to run 2 miles in 14 minutes, do 80 pushups in 2 minutes, 80 sit-ups in 2 minutes, march 25 miles with 60 pounds of gear, your weapon, and whatever extra weight you you have (spare SAW sums, extra belt for the 240, mortar rounds, etc…) I doubt he would be the president. That’s why the average age for a Colonel is around 44, give or take a couple of years, and a LTC is 38-44. At 79, he might be able to do the mental requirements, but unless he’s the Highlander, he’s WELL past the physical.

I spent 25 years in the military. Four as a Force Recon Marine, 21 as an infantry officer and counterintelligence agent for Special Operations. This movie is hilarious. 1) these guys are so old. All of them. 2) There are no Specialist (E4) Operators. 3) Some girl saying I’m an expert marksman, can you say the same? To a guy in Special Operations who more than likely is a rifle expert. 4) This may be the greatest movie ever made.

All hilarious points. You could tell she was an expert marksman by the way she took care of business, though 🤣

Currently live in Little Rock, as I’m from here and LRAFB and Camp Robinson are so close I can hear colors played in the morning and afternoon. Sometimes, if I’m outside, I’ll still stop what I’m doing, face the music, and salute. Had it not been for IED’s, specifically EFP’s, I’d still be in. And since most of my OER’s were above center of mass, and I was promoted above the zone to MAJ and LTC, pretty sure I’d have made full bird, and probably higher. Enjoy your day, and Happy New Year. It's funny how Segal tries to hide his gut with his costumes. In this one he has an extra big ammo belt/tac vest to hide it.

While it may seem dumb tho those who are ignorant, the 'headphones' (lol) worn by the soldiers are actually tactical headsets engineered for complex environments (Bing "3M Peltor" if you want to learn more). Essentially, they are noise cancelling headphones specifically tuned to mute sounds of gunfire, for example, but still can allow communication with remote operators (via radio), and even nearby persons. That last bit is pretty trick - the headsets have microphones built-in that work in concert with the headset internal circuitry which can actually AMPLIFY the low dB noise around you so can hear the surrounding nearby environment even better than with the headset off. Imagine being able to hear someone whispering to you from the other room down the hallway from the room you're currently in. They are like super ears, basically. Do some actual research before generating content, instead of being lazy bums making fun of an aging overweight actor just trying to make a living.

I've been on a MASSIVE Steven Seagal analysis binge on another channel (Space Ice btw, which I HIGHLY recommend) and to start this video and hear "It's Seagal time again..." made me feel more emotion than his entire filmography combined. Great vid, guys.
