Steven Seagal isn't even trying at this point. He wrote and starred in this glorious film - ATTRITION. Obvious stunt doubles, an incomprehensible plot, and lots of mumbling make this one hilarious movie. Seagal is still peaking.

Fun story. I worked with someone on a film who had also been on set with Steven Seagal. Apparently, not only are all of Seagal's fight scenes done with doubles these days, but the doubles have to wear fat suits too. Straight up.

The style he's doing is wing chun, which is about protecting the centerline and isn't terribly mobile and does include "chain punches", which are those rapid-fire punches he does in this movie. I studied this form for a while about thirty years ago. I got my ass kicked in pretty much every fight anyway, but I always protected my centerline, and so intubating me in the ambulance wasn't that difficult for the paramedics.

I remember when I was in the spec ops or a ninja or something like that, I met Steven Seagal on a secret mission that I can't talk about because it's a secret. If not for Steven and his mastery of all forms of combat and his medical training, we would have failed the secret ninja mission, or spec ops or whatever and many people would have died or even have been seriously injured. He also writes poetry and fixes motorcycles in his spare time. I really don't know why you're shitting on him because he's a very dangerous man but lucky for you guys he's a peaceful man who lives in a cave.

I can't recall how but we were ambushed.. and we lost about 80% of the people in our team and was chased into the forest. As our navigator was the first one killed, the 3 of us were totally lost.. and I think it was the 5, or 6 days when we were running from a crack team chasing after us. We hid in a cave, tired and very hungry... and just when we though we were done for. Steve Seagal appeared.. and.. Oh fuck this, I am too tired to make up some BS. Steve Seagal is a dick.

Steven Seagal doesn't build on a plot point and doesn't tell a comprehensible story as well.. This what made Sylvester Stallone great as an actor.. Sylvester Stallone knows how to present a character.. Make a Character show sympathy, passion, charm, happiness, sadness, ruthless and at times a weakness for something or for someone.. Sylvester Stallone knows how to build tensions in MOST of his movies.. Steven Seagal thinks that presenting himself as always perfect doesn't relate to anyone.. All that will do is make people laugh endlessly at him from the ridiculousness of it all cause there is no such thing as a perfect human being.. Steven Seagal doesn't get that.. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger has charm and passion in his movies and you can feel it whenever he is on screen but with Steven Seagal you don't feel that at all especially in his latest movies..

My father was a professional fighter in his youth, primarily in the 70s and 80s. Apparently, when Steven Seagal's career was starting, some promotional agent was parading him through the martial arts clubs trying to hype him as this bad ass. Apparently, any dojo he fought in, he got his ass kicked and it turned out most dojos were too busy laughing him out the door to kick his ass. He said this guy was presented as a grand master, but brown belts were handing him his ass. From my youth when Seagal started getting big in movies, I was taught he was someone you should never take seriously.

Years back, I was attending one of those security & defense trade shows, with a couple of friends (former PMC's and members of the US SOF community). Seagal showed up with his entourage. I think it was at the time Seagal was acting as reserve deputy sheriff in Jefferson Parish Louisiana, and "technical and tactical adviser" to local law enforcement agencies. We watched Seagal waddling from booth to booth, meddling with conversations, dispensing his knowledge. Later on, he came to a workshop on counterinsurgency, took a front seat and sat there for half an hour. It was one those awkward moments. You gentlemen are hilarious, keep it coming.

14:40 Steve finishes off the villain, then proceeds to fold away the sword behind his arm. A common move, however, Stevie grabs the blade with his hand and then puts the edge of the blade into his armpit. Not typical, but I guess that's how masters do it apparently.

How, exactly, does a Steven Seagal movie have too much plot? ...oh wait, he wrote it? Never mind. Fun fact: any time you can't directly see Seagal's face, it's his stunt double. That's why they have so many shots where his face is JUST out of shot, or facing away from the camera. He's also taken to having other people do all the action while he just does the plot-related stuff - watch out for that if you watch any of his other, more recent films.

That's like....a Math teacher accepting 2+2=5 in attempt to make Math easier to understand. This guy is....I'd love to see the world from his eyes for a moment. I mean that's worse than the stereotype of talking slowly and loudly, and I never thought that'd be toped. Bonus Round: 5:08 That is arguably the worst fight choreography I've ever seen. A. Most of the guys attacks wouldn't have even reached him. He'd have been swinging at air, without a single block or dodge. B. Segal has blocks going up at the same time as attacks start, or even BEFORE. 60's Wushu wasn't this obvious, and that was based on combat being a /dance/ both people /knew/. C. I have never seen such chow-fu BS extra hand movements and positions in my life. If you told someone "Make martial arts look stupid" this is how they'd behave.

First, you guys crack me up. Easily one of my fav channels on KZbin. My wife and I decided to watch Attrition last night. Good news. 1) You can actually understand what Steven is saying. Normally he sounds like he has a mouth full of marbles and it's a mess. 2) Overall quality was better. Apparently they had some lights in this film unlike the close to pitch black shots so common in the straight to DVD films. 3) Some decent fight scenes and gun battles towards the end. Bad news. 1) The story made absolutely ZERO sense. Not even close to making sense. Random cut aways of Steven giving deep life quotes, with an ending that somehow turned into a "the whole point of this to teach people Kung Fu". HUH??? This movie is another example of Seagal being... well... Seagal. It's like watching a car crash at this point. You can't look away.
