I want to try to explain since I love playing as him, but I worry it'll be too long or complicated
@Linosek2792 жыл бұрын
Have a 2 month late explaination: You get a base when you hit the opponent with a move using his bat, shown by the corners of the diamond. When you have 3 bases, every base after that gives you a run. Missing with a bat move gives you a strike, with 3 strikes giving you an out. The number of strikes is shown by the circles by the S. You also get an out when you get hit for the first time in a combo, shown by the circles by the O. Getting 3 outs resets your bases to 0. If your opponent blocks a bat hit, you get a ball instead (circles by the B), which gives you a base when you get 4 of them. You can also get a homerun by properly connecting with a super, which instantly converts all your runs to bases, and gives you one extra on top. When you reach 10 runs, Junpei actually becomes a character. You get access to an install which passively regenerates health and meter over time (increases for every 10 runs you get afterwards) and allows for clean hits. These give your bat moves sweet spots, which deal increased damage and change the move properties, allowing for some pretty whacky combos. It also makes the most satisfying sound in the game. There’s one other thing which I’m not entirely sure about the exact mechanics of, but if you have a fully lit up gauge (3 bases, 2 outs, 2 strikes, 3 balls) you get a bonus to your next hit. I _think_ it’s a guaranteed fatal counter, but I’m not confident in that

Just bought this game to check it out, and its a lot of fun, has just enough tools for a new player to jump in whether you have experience in FG or not, and also feels like alot of characters have this extra technical layer you dont see unless you put some time in so its been rewarding to play. the Rollback has had some issues here and there but I think for sure they will work on that as time moves on especially since its a beta branch. Hope to see a lot of new players jumping in

P4AU is an interesting game to discuss archetypes with. The characters are unique from each other and at the same time most can do a bit of everything. Naoto is a great example. She can get in your face AND keep you out. The game is sort of a "all-rounder" fest, imo but I could see a radical sort saying P4A is a puppet archetype game. That's an easy case to make for S. Labyrs and Ken, but are the rest of the cast puppet characters? Do you approach playing the game that way? The distinction is arbitrary in a fun way. I think of fighting archetypes kind of like fiction genres, now. They are, in part, marketing tools to get ya in the door.
@Zevox872 жыл бұрын
I think Shadow Labrys and Ken are the only ones you can really call pupeteers in this game. Persona moves mostly act like normals that use your persona instead of yourself on everyone else, there's very few cases where you and the persona can be acting simultaneously and independently, which is the hallmark of the pupeteer archetype. And when they are there, it's because the persona move is extremely active (see: Junpei with that Trismegistus multi-divekick), not because you truly control them simultaneously and independantly. That said, I do think it's true that most characters in this game have a little generalist in them, even when that's not their main style. Rise is rushdown as hell, but her Persona moves provide some full-screen presence, for instance. Or Yukari being a zoner, but still able to do some good pressure and mix if she's in close. Few characters are at the extremes of the archetype spectrum, where they can only do one gameplan and no other if they want to be effective.

8:45 I don't get this. Sure, if someone is being lazy and only describes characters with "rushdown," "zoner," "grappler," or "shoto" then that doesn't tell you much. That said, you can say more. For Junpei, it can be said he's a rushdown character with a unique install requirement or that he has the ability to zone if he needs to. You could also say he's well rounded and leans more towards rushdown, if you think that's more fitting. It's like genres, it gives you a basic idea, but doesn't tell you everything about what you're looking at. I'm also aware that most modern fighting games tend to make characters not purely one archetype.
@absoul1122 жыл бұрын
Also it should go without saying, but it’s alright to say a character defies conventional archetypes.
@Jayden-zq6fj2 жыл бұрын
like jmcroft said what archetype is chun li
@absoul1122 жыл бұрын
@@Jayden-zq6fj The answer depends upon which game we're talking about. In most MVC games, I'd call her a rushdown or pixie character. In most Street Fighter games, she can usually be described as midrange, zoner, or poking.
@PainasaurusRex2 жыл бұрын
I see character archetypes as a description of their strategy not what they can do. A zoner has the a strategy of keeping the opponent out, a grappler has a strategy of grabbing, how they accomplish that is what makes them interesting
@Yous01472 жыл бұрын
I think of archetypes to characters, like genres to movies. They guide the general aspect through certain limitations, but they don't determine the character/story being conveyed. Two stories in the same genre, say comedy, can sometimes have more in common in their message with a story having a completely different genre, the same is the case with archetypes. The mechanisms by which they reach those conclusions though is the same, so if you like say horror, scares and suspense, or like grapplers, emphasis on command grabs and large body, (any resemblence between the two examples being coincidental) then you know what genre or archetype you might enjoy.

Genuine question: When people say "DP" these days, are they talking about an invincible, ground-started anti-air? Or does it need to actually lift the user, too? Or are they named so literally just because of the input? Are there other traits I've not mentioned? Gotta stay up-to-date with the lingo.
@christiandelcarmen12782 жыл бұрын
I think anything that goes on a 623 directional input is a DP
@viceanterra32 жыл бұрын
It'll vary from game to game. In this game the "DP" is one button I'm pretty sure and it's close to what u said. Grounded, invincible reversal. Not specifically anti-air.
@Zevox872 жыл бұрын
Usually it either refers to an invincible reversal move, or to the motion input (623). In P4AU's case, it's always going to be the former, as there aren't any moves that use the dp motion.
