Myself as well. Back then, I didn't care for most female comedians. Joan was a definite exception. She cracked me up. I remember the first time I saw her, she said something like, "I'm so flat. When Melissa was born, she started sucking on my shoulder."

Damn. I grew up in the 90s knowing Joan just from her talk show. Didn't see it much. But I never knew she was this quick fire brilliant. Probably my favorite aspect of stand up comedy is imagery. The way she transmits imagery with her language and body language is on par with Winters and Rickles, even Robin. "She pierced her ears and gravy came out" LMAO Amazing comic and woman.

none she cursed at 4:43 but also they were more limited to vulgar language back then and she wanted to get invited back. Cursing was a big part of her routine as tv got more liberal. Either way, she was very gracious and kind.

The show was not on at another time. He then of course would have supported her. She was airing opposite him on another channel in the exact same time spot. That is very different. I do not blame him. Sorry, it was a slap in the face to Johnny. I sided with him. Edgar, her husband was advising her then. He ended up committing suicide and I think that she left him a few months before.

Alex for years Joan said that she called him to let him know that FoX was going to give her her own show. He hung up on her and never spoke to her again. If she did anything underhanded she would never have credited Johnny Carson for giving her her career. As much as I love Johnny Carson, he was a nasty bastard off camera in his personal life.
