I always wondered why Ripley would do that when the Queen was letting her leave. Until I realized the Queen actually was breaking the little deal they made by having the egg open. Ripley was like “Fine! Take this then!”

Ripley was such a badass character. She was strong but also very feminine. She felt very genuine. As a kid in the 80s who had many male heroes, I loved Ripley and wanted to be like her. I never disliked her because she was a woman. I loved her because she was a badass. I think people forget that even way back in the 80s we had strong female heroines in movies.

Aliens will always be one of the best films and best sequels. There's not gonna be another great Alien film as good as the first two. One of the most scariest moments. Seeing the queen right above them and all those egg sacks. They don't make movies like this anymore. This why practical effects are so much better.

Am i the only one feeling Ripley betrayed the queen? The queen let her go in return for not harming the eggs. It was a deal and she didn't honour her part. Though i understand her, they killed many of her friends... Still, i feel some inconvenience.

Ripley does not betray the queen, she saw that one of the eggs was about to hatch and defends herself. Either it's the queen who "ordered" the egg to hatch (by some kind of hive mind) but I'm not sure, or it's the egg that hatches instinctively when a prey passes by, and so Ripley understands that she won't leave without bloodshed. Hence his look at 2:34 His gaze seems to be pointing towards the first theory instead, as the gaze seems to say "Seriously?"

Part of my anger towards Alien 3 is that it undid so much of Ripley's character development. This scene in particular contains most of it. I think this was the moment where Ripley finally got over her fear of the Aliens, or at least, just channeled that fear into rage as she tore up the Hive. I always looked at the moment where she tilts her head at the Facehugger coming out as the, "Okay. That's it." that marked that transition. Ripley - in my mind - overcame her fear of Xenomorphs, patched up the hole in her heart (left by the death of her daughter while she was adrift in space) with Newt, had an implied love interest in the form of Hicks (especially since I heard at one point that James Cameron originally intended for Ripley, Newt, and Hicks to go home to Earth and live as a family, which warmed my heart to the point where it melted), and overcame her hatred of androids courtesy of Bishop. Her character development from terrified survivor to hardened warrior is absolutely amazing. That's why I was so mad about Alien 3 not only removing Hicks and Newt from the equation, but also the moment where she's cowering in fear when the Alien is up in her face - based on the ending of Aliens, I'd have expected her to stare daggers at it at worst, and punch it in the face or something at best.

If the games and books are anything to go by, the queen is much more heavily armored than normal xenomorphs and even they take a few bullets to kill. Also time, Ripley didn't have the time or ammo to enter a battle with the queen so she caused as much damage as she could in the time she had.
