LOL I always thought it was funny that it was established very early in the show that Clark could see the Kryptonite in the infected people but that is such a macguffin I suppose that they forgot it since Clark could just use his X-ray vision and instantly know who was a ''Meteor freak'' :P

I´m beyond tired of the ridicule of the Martha line in BvS. The idea that both character´s mothers have the same name was something that most people didn´t stop to think about. And that scene was meant to represent that as well as to give Batman something to snap Batman out of his thought of killing Superman and Superman to ask for his mother to be saved. ...and if you think that was the worst line a superhero movie then you haven´t seen Batman and Robin. As for Martha Kent´s performance...of course Smallville´s version was better than the movies. Martha just appeared in 3 movies while in Smallville the character had 10 years to be developed. And, as far as Kevin Spacey goes...he did a great Luthor. Another thing entirely is his personal life.

This show is fascinating because of how long it ran, it saw the world of comic book adaptations change so drastically during its run. It started before the first Spider-Man movie and ended a year before the first Avengers movie. Timeline wise, that's such a monumental shift in the genre and the show for better or worse tried to keep up with it so in that respect, I don't think the show gets the respect it's due. Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but it gets more things right than it gets wrong and it was ahead of the curve in a lot of ways

I absolutely loved this show. It was a must see every week for me. I never minded the monster of the week episodes. For whatever reason that worked for me. I also felt like the casting was perfect for all of the main characters. No issues there. I always wished we had gotten a little bit of Clark in the suit, but I get it that that wasn't the show they were making. It is also a shame that this cast never got their shot at a theatrical movie. Tom would have made such a perfect movie Man of Steel. I can't say enough good things about his show. It was still back in a time when everything was simpler. It wasn't all about agendas and all the other crap we have to put up with now in our TV shows and I am sure you all know the kind of stuff I am talking about. Great memories of a time not so long ago. Thanks for the amazing fun look back at a lovely, heartfelt and fun series, something we are truly in need of once again these days.

One thing I loved about Smallville was how Clark used his powers in everyday life. Clark can often be seen chilling and using his powers for daily tasks. Like 6:31 when he's just using heat vision to toast bread. The show would often do that for "breathing room" between scenes, having Clark do farm work casually with superpowers. It made audiences believe that this was normal for Clark, that his powers were a part of how he lived everyday.

Some subplots and episodes were so good, like when martha and lionel are trapped in LuthorCorp, the caves, the ship, the arc about morgan edge, his connection with lionel and the death of his parents, Memoria, the relics in season 4, season 5 and 6 were also good, the season finales were so awesome Sadly since season 8 it felt like show went in a very different direction and the whole thing about lana wasn't bad but it lasted more than it should have so that Clark falling for Lois were more organic. Overall this was a great show and it's because of smallville that we got Gotham or the Arrowverse

I adore Smallville. It was my first real favorite show. Really, it can be divided between three eras: Season 1-3: The Lore Era. The show has its own rules, and follows it to the tee. Season 4-7: The Service Era. This universe has a rich, vibrant universe behind it with the DC toy box to play out of, so let’s explore it. Season 8-10: The Bats*** Era. Anything, anywhere, and anyone can show up, so let’s have some fun, and if we rip off several popular movie genres along the way, so be it!

Season 1-5 was a teen drama show with young Superman going through high school. Season 6-10 was a comic book Superman show. I was going through middle school during the first half of the show so I felt I grew up with Clark. Clark was learning to be a teen who has powers and was already an out cast. Clark wanting to enjoy his life in Smallville and protect his family and friends. In the second half of show I was older and enjoyed Clark being an adult and dealing with more comic book issues that grew the mythology for understanding how and why Clark decides to become Superman. Clark learns his destiny is beyond Smallville and he wants to protect everyone, not just the ones close to him. The show whole is a complete character arc for Clark Kent.

As for Lex and Lana, Lex saw Clark as a little brother and worked hard to see Clark get the girl. When it didn't work out, he saw an opportunity. I think he pursued Lana initially as a competition, to beat Clark. But as so often happens with love cons, he fell for her and needed to seal the deal. So he faked a pregnancy and manipulated her into marrying him. As for why Lana fell for Lex originally, Lex is a charming dastardly. Rich, ambitious, and focused. A true alpha man. He didn't have to run off at the drop of a hat like Clark did. He could be there for her. And he was, until he won. It was weird, the whole Mrs Luthor thing, but it was par for the course at that point.

Love this show. One of my all time favorites. Right behind Game of Thrones.

Smallville was great for its time, and I think it still holds up very well. The cast was very impressive, and most of the episodes were well-written so they weren't boring. I bought the Blu-Ray set when it first came out, but its been a while since I last watched it.

(Note: This particular comment is being made before watching the video. It's in response to the JoBlo's written introduction in the video description.) Regarding the question of whether Clark or Superman is the "real" personality, I've always preferred the "Clark is the real person" philosophy. This is interesting when comparing to Batman because for both characters, their "mask" is their real face. Superman may fly around saving the world, but at the end of the mission, he puts on a pair of glasses, does a job that anybody could do if they're dedicated to the truth and willing to fight for it with all their being. He was raised as Clark Kent and that's who he'll always be. Ma's home cooking and pa's simple farmer work ethic have more to do with who he is than the alien powers he inherited from his long dead home world. He's a boy from Kansas pretending to be a superhero. Bruce Wayne, on the other hand, stopped existing when his parents were shot. Every moment of his life afterwards was dedicated first to perfecting himself in every way possible, then to making sure that atrocity didn't happen to anybody else so long as it's in his power to stop it. When Batman is through protecting the innocent from a world that isn't, he goes back to his cave, takes off his mask, goes upstairs and pretends to be a man who for all psychological purposes died with his parents years ago in a dark alley.

Telling the casting team that he wouldnt interview again and if they liked what they'd already seen they could hire him is straight up a Lex Luthor move.

I felt bad for Kristin Kreuk/lana. Everyone knew her and Clark weren’t going to make it. After a while she was just there and served no purpose when Lois showed up.

same they've could've done more for her if they were just more creative

It's great to start the week with a Gone But Not Forgotten from the real Supermen, David Arroyo and Jesse Shade. Keep up the good work.

A few of your details are off, but great video. We used to refer to Smallville as “Clark’s Creek” because of the early teen drama episodes…

I know everyone makes fun of the "save Martha" line from BVS, but the thing is, everyone is stupid & wrong. Batman's change had NOTHING to do with the fact that the name was "Martha". Her name could have been "Carol". The point was that at the end, when his life was on the line, Clark's priority was his earthly/human mother. Reminding Batman that he HAD a human mother just like every other human, in turn, humanized Superman/Clark, which is what caused Batman to suddenly reverse his decision to kill him. To this point, he had always seen Superman/Clark as an otherworldly god that was too powerful to be left alive. But when he discovered that he had a human mother & that she was actually his #1 priority, like any human, it forced him to see Clark/Superman in a new light. And in that new light, he couldn't kill him without cause.
