I think the problem is that some people just expect things to fall in to their laps. Don't choose jobs that ANYONE can do. Like landscaping or painting houses, or whatever. My company just announced 300 of us will be getting laidoff. We will find out in July when the layoffs will start. Only 680 employees all together. Got people who have been working here 40+yrs and we are all crossing our fingers we aren't going to be one of the many. This is the same day the company shut down a whole plant in another town.

I work as a VP in commercial lending. It's no secret that the last two years have been very brutal for our industry. The current industry slogan is "Survive till 25." I have been looking for a new employment opportunity for several months. I am even sending resumes out for positions I am overqualified and still not getting responses. But if you step back and look at the big picture, it's not even close. Democrats by far have the best record for job creation. I call BS. So many people are struggling to find a job right now. Many people are working multiple part time jobs, not a single full time job that pays enough to live. My advice to people are to keep your skills up, update your resume, building a good emergency fund in the event of layoffs/RIFs and cut expenses. It is hard out here. It has taken some people up to and over a year to find a job in their field and many times the new job results in a pay cut. I wouldn't buy the jobs report if it came from a Republican or Democrat administration. The job numbers do not belie the truth.

I have been working at leaving my job for a newer job with better pay, and got a letter of offer today. The position is a step lower but otherwise the same, the pay is 3 dollars more per hour than I currently have, and the cost of living is lower in that area, with better but not mandatory overtime opportunities. Full time. The most important thing is that area doesn't allow corporations to buy up housing which was the biggest issue I had here, as corporations would buy and flip properties very quickly.

That report may say the economy is growing but when I open my wallet and there is nothing in there that tells a different story. So I work at a government hospital. I can at least say, at my location, we are "selectively hiring". The staff call it a hiring freeze because they took down a bunch of job postings that were up, but officially it's not one. They're still hiring though, so they hate to call it a "hiring freeze". I do work for our new employees at orientation, I can tell you we've dropped to about 25% of new staff coming in in the last 6 months. However, I also heard they're getting funding once the new FY comes around in October. They'll post new positions that were taken down then. So keep an eye on USA jobs in October and later if you want to work for the government.
