I've been getting up between 3:30 and 4 for months now; body decided, not intentional. My alarm is for 4:30; I work at a horse farm 45 minutes away and need to be there by 6:30. I was a night owl most of my life. Worked several overnight shifts over the decades. Now early to bed, early to rise, 8-17 miles on foot walking horses, 2-3 hours shoveling muck and tossing full 30 gallons buckets of muck, carrying 5 gallon in each arm filling waters in up to 30 stalls, and more.

Would love to see you and Dr. Peter Attia discuss Strongman and longevity. Although being heavier for this sport would seem to be a negative for longevity, Dr.Attia’s emphasis on a strength/longevity connection may prove that everyone should do Strongman, or at least train heavier than current recommendations for the average Joe.

6:23 there you go man that's litteraly it. all these motivational speakers don't actually know the struggle. they are comfortable and use to doing what they do. there is no question in your head you just do. i don't get how people don't understand that the brain is what controlls you. if the brain ain't in the right mind set then it ain't that easy to go against it. that's why going to the gym every day the first month sucks but the months after that you still find the motivation and will power to hit the gym even though it was a bad day.

@mitchellhooperstrongman I appreciate you. You’ve become a huge inspiration and motivator to me and I wanted to say thank you. I’m in my mid 40’s. Diabetic with neuropathy in my legs, ankles and feet. Also a back and neck disability and a weak hip. I’m 6’3” and currently about 380 lbs. It’s a long story but I was close to 500 lbs of obesity. I lost a lot of weight from depression and got down to 360 lbs then gained some back over the holidays. (Depression led to unintentional water fasting every few days.) So I needed to get my mental health right so I can get my physical health right and to do that I recently joined a gym. I have to take it easy but I’m hoping I’ll be able to turn this bad weight into positive strength and to reverse the effects left by an extremely poor diet and severe depression. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration and motivation. I look forward to see what’s next.

Raijin, I'm a powerlifter, and I know of a great many people who got into this sport as a result of exactly the kind of sitiation you are in. They needed a change and the gym/barbell became their mental and physical therapy. Go slow, look after your body and great things will come for you! The "you're not starving, you're just hungry" thing really started to make sense after the first time I did a 72 hour fast myself. For me it's more of a "You're not hungry, you just WANT TO eat" but same thing. Really helped me to stop snacking and get some sense to my eating. If I understand Jocko, he would absolutely have you on a different diet, at least in frequency. He is big in "goal orientation", and some goals, like staying at 300+ pounds and lifting 500kg, need the body to be fuelled more frequently. Your stomach would burst if you tried to fit all the nutrients you need in one meal (for example)

You and Loz could be the perfect minds to propose standardized equipment specs for records as well. Ie: Log record must be on greater than 12 inch diameter log and minimum 10 feet wide. Axle record on 2 inch bar with fixed weights DL is on x type of bar, suit allowed (which sucks)... Stone record must to a platform of 50 inches.... Whatever it is. Of course comps can have records on their own stuff (elephant bar, stone runs etc.)

My understanding of fasting is that when you are not producing digestion hormones that your body will go into a ‘clean out’ mode where it looks to remove damaged cells and byproducts, rather than to add to the existing cells. My non-professional interpretation of this is that it would help reverse the growth of tumors and cancer, along with antioxidants.
