I have this clip on replay. 7+ times to count. My name is Jose. I am a 26 year old Hispanic American. I currently got laid off. And I’m about loose my home (studio). I am a week in before I am not able to make ends meet. To add I am a dad to a cool little pupp. Makes my situation a little more harder. If I had the wrong mentality I probably would’ve taken my life by now. But, that’s not the way I do things. I don’t let the pressure ‘RUN’ me I RUN at it. I’ve implemented lifting weights and conditioning for the most part of my life. Every time I listen to both of you speak about discipline, I feel a sense of pride. Because I understand every one of your words. When the pressure takes me down, your podcast, your voice, and words get me back up. A bigger push to get that grind in. To overcome. To GET IT DONE. Speaking to the public* if you can relate to my situation then my biggest respect to you. You know that will. if you can’t...know you have the will power to resist and to overcome. It’s some where inside of us. It just takes a bigger part of you to release that will. Thank you Jocko and thank you echo. For the words and influence we absorb from you guys. Ps. It’s been a rough week, I thought some of you would like read and relate to someone that has it rough and remember that we all got problems, and if I can overcome you can do it too. Thanks for reading.

This is the story of a warrior, there is no deeper darker hell hole than addiction & the tricks that can be played by the mind. War is hell but at least you can think death might deliver you to a peaceful place. Every time I hear people turning their lives around it reminds me of newbie gains at the gym. It's easier to stay motivated when you see progress when you're used to seeing failure, but it's harder to get that motivation when your life is at a decent spot but you don't want to stay at a stalemate. That's when you really have to look within and see how and why you want to change, while also being realistic. But hey, ground gained is ground gained and it adds up.

Half way through so wanted to tell at that guy a "Get after it " of encouragement. Good for him. I'm 42, have spent the last year slaving and stressing on our new home. I was too tired to work out. Then while painting for 2 weeks straight I fell into listening to Jocko's podcasts. I have set a goal, I run 7km every day. Tomorrow I start work at 7am, so I'll have to get to work early and do a 9.5km run before work so I can hit the showers and be ready to go on time. I will be driving to work in my gear. Jocko's voice is in my head when I run, alternating between Uncle Jake mode and Jocko. Goggins is also in my head when I start to lag. I am going for promotion when it comes up. I've set my sights on a unit at work with a good esprit du corps and that will be my next goal. When the fitness test which includes a beep test, push ups sit ups overhead kettle bell, comes up again, I'm not going to just meet them minimum standard, I'm going to blow it out of the water. These podcasts have helped me enormously. Jocko's voice, it's funny how so many share the same experience, it's in our heads now. And I'm grateful for it.

Man, this one hits home. I started abusing substances around age 11 and was a full blown alcoholic/ addict by 17. Last holiday season, at age 38, I checked myself into an inpatient recovery program and I've been alcohol free ever since (about 13 months). I've spent this time so far simply learning to live sober. I am now ready to get after some gains at the gym and about to embark on that journey. Just being sober feels great. Can't wait to add in some physical fitness. Thanks for everything, Jocko. I love the podcast and will soon buy your books. Your words are quite encouraging. It's not you making the changes for people, but the fire you ignite in a troubled soul such as mine is just as significant. Keep up the good work, sir!

I absolutely concur with this gentleman's summation. I'm a 50 y/o LEO. 13 yrs ago I twice herniated a disc in my back. I let it own me. Last year, I started to half-ass workout, at night. I was doing it, but there was no goal or motivation. Then I heard Admiral McRaven's "Make Your Bed". Subsequently, I read the book. Amazon suggested "Discipline Equals Freedom" by this Jocko Willink guy. So, I read it. BAM!!! Every single excuse I ever made was punching me in the face. He knew!!! He freakin' knew!!! So, I started goin to bed as early as possible and getting up early, to workout. I was stoked to be better, stronger, more focused. Then, a month later, I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes...damn genetics. No problem. As a matter of fact, I embraced it. I made my battle plan. I eat healthier, I workout harder, I do all I can to make myself better. I've since read "Extreme Ownership" and just started "Dichotomy of Leadership". I am never...NEVER going backwards. Feet down. Butt up. Moving forward. Every morning. No quit. I want to sincerely thank Jocko, Leif, and Echo Charles. The vids get my blood going. The books keep my mind sharp. I'm better now than 30 years ago. Seriously!!! I now "get" what DISCIPLINE really is. Ownership of my life, my time, my mind, and, because I make the time to pray before I workout, I am stronger in Body, Mind, and Spirit. My workout room has been titled my "Strength Room". Thank you again. This 50 y/o LEO is a better man, in EVERY way. Last words...LEAD. Lead yourself...to victory!!!

Inspiring letter. I've done ok in life, used to be a total gym rat after college, but this year kind of got down in the dumps a bit, due somewhat to Covid-19 and limited social interaction, and a bit of burn out at work. Gym fell off big time. Stumbled upon your podcast in the middle of June and after about a week of listening something clicked. I think it was the episode that Rose was on and listening to her story really put life in perspective and kind of showed me that I have a lot to be happy about and really nothing to complain about regardless of what is going on in the world. Made me realize a lot of that "little stuff" didn't matter and was useless to dwell on. Started going to bed and getting up earlier, started working out daily again, even if it was just 20-30 minutes, just to do something. My diet was still garbage so at the start of July I went on a smoothie/shake diet fast basically surviving every day with 3-4 veggie/fruit protein shakes with a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast and a chicken breast for dinner. I thought it would last a week, but now I'm starting the 5th week. I used to eat McDonalds 2-3 times a week, haven't had it in over a month. I feel great, my body feels good and I've been killing it with workouts pretty much every day. I did 50+ push ups in a row the other day(I go for push up max every other day) and that's the first time I've been able to do that since college. I have so much more energy and less stress and it's amazing how quickly that change occurs when you just take control and start doing things. It's going to sound cliche as hell, but not sure I'd be in this state of mind if I hadn't found your podcast. Hope you and Echo continue this for a long time because you are inspiring to a lot of people.

Fantastic. Including the advice of, "start small." For those (of us) with perfectionistic tendencies, wanting to start everything all at once can lead to planning paralysis. But, start now, and plan, and start again, and plan and refine and add something else, and do more and more over time, and that can work, I am finding.

Wow. What a story. Really touched me. I've been through similar shit myself, and came to similar conclusions. The body (and perhaps even more so the mind) will get used to anything, I used to be all about quick pleasure and being comfortable, getting fucked up and having fun. I hated being uncomfortable. Still do. But these days, I am more used to that, pushing myself to doing things that are hard but productive, than to sitting around and being lazy. Now I go crazy if I'm not constantly exposing myself to doing things I know I should do but don't want to. I hate working out. But I hate NOT working out even more. I hate being uncomfortable, but I hate sitting around and doing nothing WAY more. Dead wood doesn't grow. Very relatable story anyway, thanks to whoever wrote it.

Jocko helped inspire me to stop being fat. I found keto and dropped 75lbs in just over 3 months and have been hired into our volunteer firefighter training. I also bought extreme ownership for myself and way of the warrior kid for my 5yr old daughter and now she is starting jujitsu. Thank you jacko!
