Joe Locke Talks 'Heartstopper' Breakthrough, New Marvel Series | The View

I dodged Heartstopper for a while. Didn’t think a teenage love story would interest me as an older person. Got exposed to episode 1 and was instantly hooked. The entire show is like a warm hug. They go into increasingly serious issues, and season 3 is going to be tackling some brutal mental health stuff, but we all know that in the end everyone will come through for everyone else, and the ending will be happy, and there will moments of such joy along the way. The young ensemble cast is amazing, kudos to them all and the casting director. Now I’m chasing them into other projects because they and Alice Osman and the whole production crew deserve the world and it’s no surprise their talent is transferable. But what I never expected was Joe Locke’s singing voice. Out there on the Isle of Mann is one incredible singer/teacher and Joe stepped off that island straight onto Broadway after Heartstopper with a bravura performance. I’m still gobsmacked over it.

I’m glad you did. As a gay man in my 50s HS had been such a breath of fresh air and a way to heal some early trauma. Surely it’s idealized, but we need more shows that model healthy queer behavior, especially for young people.

@@jcs1025 100% agree with you. I'm nearing 50 myself. I remember when almost everything gay related was depressing to watch. It almost always involved someone dying from aids, drug abuse, or gay bashing. Now we have shows like Heartstopper, Love Victor, etc. It's a breath of fresh air.

i will always root a tad more for yaz and joe (especially joe, i just cannot help how much i adore him) because of their upbringing. no childhood acting classes, no financial privileges, lower social income background, esp yaz, joe from that tiny iom far away from london westend where seb and kit debuted as kids. its so great how heartstopper broke into these stereotypically castings of classy child actors with their opening calls.

I've loved Heartstopper since it first came out and have watched all three seasons more times than I can count. I also loved Joe in Agatha All Along and even saw the Sweeney Todd production he was in. I was really impressed by his singing voice. The thing is, I realize that beauty/attractiveness is entirely subjective; however, I just can't wrap my head around the comments stating that this guy is handsome or good looking. I think he's enormously talented in many ways, but I also think his looks are really unfortunate. For example, for the life of me, I can't figure out why he doesn't replace his missing teeth. Perhaps it's because I'm a dental hygienist, and I tend to notice things like this, but even so, as an actor it's more than a little distracting. I can't imagine his agent hasn't suggested implants. And given the number of his projects in the last several years, money shouldn't be an impediment. Kit Connor had his missing tooth replaced and also had either some professional whitening done or dental veneers placed. I think he looks fantastic and appears much more confident. Anyway, once again, this is just my personal opinion, and we're all entitled to them. I wish Joe nothing but much success in the future and a very long and fruitful career.

I don't see missing teeth, at least not in front, and we can't really see further back. I do see a bit of crookedness but we all have that. And after all - he IS British LOL. As for his looks, those ARE entirely subjective. He is cute (which often involves more than just a pretty face) and what some might call "unconventionally attractive." Others may think he is gorgeous. I think few would consider his looks "unfortunate." Joe, if you're reading this (which I know is unlikely), I am sure you get opinions from everyone, but I also know that YOU know that you are adored by millions, and you are beautiful. We are grateful for you and your work, especially Heartstopper, which has been a blessing for so many youth.
