I was banned real quick for glossing over the moderation rules too fast and didn't realize I couldn't write a contrary opinion in an Anita Sarkessian topic without first getting dogpiled and then then insta-banned for "Junior cull trolling" on my third day of using the site. I've kept lurking without being able to post because I thought it was a great source for news and passionate gamers but in the last year or so I've found it's become increasingly frustrating to read through even outside of the feminist threads and whatnot because it's just the same one-sided yelling all the time and sometimes you'll see 5-10 sensible arguments in a thread that's contrary to the consensus that are just banned like they're dropping like flies. That is censorship if I ever saw it. It creates quality control at best but not when it's about opinions that are contrasting and they're not allowed to contrast if one's viewpoint is deemed too right-sided or something. I'm not even american, so how could I know that a statement I made fell in line with something that reminded people of Trump or whatever it was? I just find that's an excruciatingly dangerous media to have and make it be so prominent. It's locked several truly good and well-meaning people out of the community just because the moderators are biased fucks and everyone has to feel offended over nothing or else they'll be called "ihuman piece of shit" or something. Some of the reactions I've seen towards ignorance or misguidedness or even ignorance on GAF's part like PewDiePie was just heart-wrenching to me; seeing over a hundred people agree that PewDiePie is some "antisemetic fuck, and I hope he loses all his insane fans". There's no room for both sides on GAF, only one and you cannot call out on the BS or you'll be silenced permanently in an instant. That's shocking to me.

Small government is a good idea, but what do we do about monopoly and corporatism when of the top 100 economies 51 of them are corporate states which have no democratic accountability... At that point we have to maybe consider that the government can be small in some ways- personal privacy, right to trial, etc and be powerful in other ways in regard to regulating monopoly and environment and industrial fallout. The problem is not large vs small it's corruption vs ethics and principles and truly representational democracy.
@johntaranto29
@johntaranto29 7 жыл бұрын
No if we had a true small government and true capitalism there wouldnt be monoplies. There would be less regulation that makes it hard for smaller companies to compete with the big ones. Things like the e.p.a. Put crazy taxes and fees on people trying to build their business and the effect is they cant compete with monoplies. The free market is proven to work its just that it was abandoned for corrupt reasons, mainly to purposely build monoplies so more power is held by fewer people at the top of the pyramid .

No...we hard the free market once. Read "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair or anything about late 18th century Liverpool and Manchester. Pure laissez-faire markets fuck over the poor in a worse way than anything we have now. It would be ideal if we didn't need regulation and inefficient central government to keep things running. But humans are greedy, it's a clear case of "this is why we can't have nice things".

Yeah but that's like caging a gorilla, giving him giving steroids and hoping he won't rip you to shreds once you enter the cage. >"The problem is not large vs small it's corruption vs ethics" How is the problem not related to size when large and powerful is what attracts sociopaths and busybodies to the political life in the first place? How can you expect ethics to survive in a place where people make a living out of telling others how to live and juggling large sums of money coerced out of the taxpayer? >"truly representational democracy" Democracy is the tyranny of the 51%. I don't know you, why should your vote dictate the way I live? Why should my vote dictate how you live?

+pahwraith Wrong. the poor were "fucked over" in those situations because they lacked the means by which to compete with the powers that be, i.e. major corporations and the govt which always sided with corporations when it came to workers and consumer rights. It wasn't until workers started forming unions (which to this day are predominantly socialist in nature) and literal wars broke out between striking workers and the corporation's hired mercenary armies (such as the Pinkertons) that the govt stepped in to essentially prevent anarchy and bloodshed. Works like "The Jungle" are sensationalist tripe and mostly fiction written to illicit an emotional response to further some specific agenda. That's not to say that working conditions didn't resemble those depicted in the book, but such works tend to be horrendously skewed. Unlike then, Today more than ever in the history of mankind it is possible for anyone to have the means to provide for themselves as sufficiently as anyone else barring personal mental and physical limitations. Access to information and knowledge is at an all time high- yet America has such outrageously expensive public and higher education. Why? Because schools don't compete much with each other. This is why people are talking about privatizing public education. Consider TeleCom companies. They go out of their way to avoid competing with each other and the govt allows this and that is why internet service in the US is so expensive and lackluster. Travel is as fast and convenient as ever, why then is air travel such a pain? Because established airlines don't have to compete with smaller airlines. There should be *no* excuse today for *anyone* to be poor unless it is by their own will. Obviously, no society can subsist off a complete lack of regulation or social services, but socialism is *not* the answer. Competition from smaller business encourages larger established businesses to stay honest and maintain quality of goods and service. If a company has no fear of losing its share of its consumer market to an upstart, it can take advantage of people with impunity. Businesses *will* fail if a capitalist system is functioning correctly. This is a good thing so long as there are always more businesses with fresh ideas and new innovations to proceed them. But yet in actuality we've seen entire industries undergo rapid consolidation in the last 20 years especially (after that dot com bubble burst). Human's are greedy, yes. But this is not entirely a bad thing. Greed is, after all one of the driving factors behind all the progress humans have made in our history. Capitalism works because it harnesses that greed to fuel productive industry so society benefits. The only stipulation is that *anyone* should have as good a shot at success as anyone else. And those content to simply "get by" should be able to contribute and live as comfortably as they want. But redistribution of wealth wrecks *everything*. The poor should *only* be poor because they *choose* to. Granting them the fruits of other people's labor ruins society.

Another interesting, and to a certain degree ironic, thing about the Witcher series and the issue of diversity is that discrimination and racism are a big topic in this universe. However, Mr Sapkowski, the author of the original book series, and CD Project Red are depicting it using humans, elves, draws, etc. instead of actual human races. I am afraid that the same people who accuse the Witcher series' developers of racism, would not find anything wrong about, let's say, the original "Planet of the Apes" just because one of the protagonists was black, even though he was killed early on in the film. Yet, "Planet of the Apes" is a highly racist and conservative, in the evil, nineteen-sixties, anti-civil-rights, meaning of the word. This could constitute an onset into a larger conversation, but I just want to say that I am sad that people who only look at the surface of certain issues and refrain from a deeper analysis of works of art are so vocal. I am also very disappointed that these same people self-identify as representatives of the political left, which undermines the entire wing of the political spectrum and damages all the great ideas associated with it. Not to even mention the harm done to the public debate in general by seeing the entire world as black and white.

Year is 2022 and many video game stories now serve for the ''diversity'', not the other way around. Even the Polish CD Projekt Red has embraced Californian ''progressive'' culture.

More and more I realize Joe really isn't too smart. He keeps stumbling around the idea of "ideologies" and how they relate to political positions or orientations. And he gets really loose with his use of "the left" and "the right." He seems to recognize the variations on the right, but he thinks the left is homogeneous and dogmatic. No, you must only be listening to the loudest ones and the ones on the TV. People on the right aren't the only ones speaking out against the treatment of Milo, against social justice witch-hunts, against government overreach, etc. Pay attention and you'll find plenty of variety on the left. They're not all of one mind as "the left."

Progressivism is a broad philosophy. They're many ideologies within in. When Americans refer to liberalism, they're referring to Modern American liberalism which derives from Social liberalism. Social liberalism is very much progressive. The problem we have run into, is we have our own crazy wing that calls everyone and everything racist or sexist if they disagree with them. But that is not the vast majority of progressives.

How does this relate to the gaming industry? I don't see that much "liberal" stuff in games.. Maybe on certain media sites, but not the industry itself.. O_o This seems like an odd non-issue to bring up/create. I think all this labeling and generalization is really counter productive.. If you don't like certain media sites.. stop reading them.. They don't reflect the whole industry, and bad liberals shouldn't make progressives look bad, they're different things.

@dangelahusek3986
@dangelahusek3986 7 жыл бұрын
Really? I am on "The Right" and while there are some vocal idiots, most don't care about gay marriage per se. What the right sees is the inevitable. You don't want to make a cake for a gay wedding? Fine. What the left does is to not tolerate dissenting opinions. In more direct terms, the Right does not care if that baker wants to bake a cake for a gay wedding, but the Left cannot handle that some baker may not want to. The modern left is becoming the true definition of the thought police.

Ok but here's the thing. I hear a lot of public figures (on the right and left) coming out and saying how they are so upset by people misinterpreting them on the internet. Well, you know what? That's what happens when you put yourself out there on the internet. People pick and choose what they want to believe about you and its really easy to twist things. If that upsets you so much KEEP YOUR PERSONAL SHIT OFFLINE. It is possible to just have a professional presence on the internet. If you can't take the heat, get out the kitchen.

Because that's what's been happening, you can't keep personal shit offline because people will doxx your and try to ruin your life simply because you disagreed with them. No. "What happens" is people calling you a f-g in online games, angry exes posting mean comments on your facebook, yadda yadda comes with the territory. This is not about being upset. This is about people using life-ruining tactics and isolating people from their friends by painting them as sexist, racist, etc.

He's not a stupid guy he knows that people overreact to everything , he was just talking about the outrage the over HZD nonsense. Also if you watch the last KF gamecaset b/f the tweet you can see his complete boredom on his face when talking about video games. So if you want to be super suspicious you could think that Colin used this whole situation to his advantage. I totally believe that the overreaction is just as ridiculous as the over support he's getting over this tweet.
