It’s so refreshing to hear him talking about that in the way that he does, I’m so tired of people in those insanely high top 0.0001% ways of making a living complaining about trivial things as though they aren’t fortunate to be where they are and now where the vast majority of people are. Keeping proper perspective in life is crucial to staying grounded and crucial for remaining a good comic as well.

Ive been an artist for 22 years. Every single day I think “oh shit I don’t know what im doing” but that’s what I love. Find something that holds your attention and start to dive in and if you have that obsessive artistic temperament you will find a never ending expanse that makes time and place irrelevant, so if you start now or 20 years ago the reward is the same. You haven’t missed your chance and age has no relevance

The best phrase to deal with any narcissist (which is fundamentally what this is about) is to always identify the point at which they say 'look what you made me do'. No one makes you do anything. You live by your own choices.

There are almost as many people on this planet where at several points in their life, your conclusion does not apply. It varies with individuals, but mostly by socio-economic factors that vary rather widely within and between geographic locations. You can draw the value of 'living by your own choices' along an axis with the endpoints of 'survival' at one extreme, and 'self-fulfillment' at the other. Some can do both, some neither.

I really don’t agree with jimmys analogies about Comedy being brand new and this is what it felt like in 1930s Jazz clubs… because there were comedians then, and there have been comedians forever, even before the jesters of medieval court. Comedy changes and the way a comedian perform changes, but it’s always been there. I agree that the percentage of people who actually do stand up is nothing, but it’s not new… there would’ve been a joke teller from the start of time. Every tribe would’ve had one.

Stand-up comedy is a relatively very new art form, it stems from minstrel shows in the 1800's. Whereas there have been rich and famous musicians, painters, authors, etc., for centuries. It's only in recent years that we have comedians who have rock-star levels of success.

Used to wake up 5 am, worked at a construction site bending, carrying metal bars, cemented shit, started 6 am-4 pm ate, BS around the house, went to play soccer for 2-3 hours, F'd around the PC till 2am, 5am getting up again. etc. etc. you can do it, but the body remembers, it builds up and you crash.

The jealousy from other comedians towards Whitney Cummings when she blew up and her sitcom was being promoted was like nothing I've ever seen. They all had something nasty to say about her.

Well I don't find her much if at all funny, like her latest special with these years is unwatchable. So I do get like the sentiment of oh look, suprise that the hot woman is chosen before so many way better. Then again it was also there with Dane Cook when he became BIG, but then again he himself admits that he became unpleasant egomaniac at those times. Did anyone have anything to say when Chappelle, Louis C.K or Bill Burr blew up? Not really. There is a lot in the field of stand-up the feelings of: "It should've been me." Still, then again, when there is A Lot of voices. There usually is also something else than Just jealousy in it.

I believe Jimmy Carr is downplaying how hard he is working. He is joking about not having to do any work. But in other interviews he have talked about how he don't have any free time. He's always working. And that fits with how he is in "everything" right now.
