The Greeks saw each individual as a thread. Humanity is a tapestry that includes us all. Frayed fringes, flaws all come together in the most unimaginable ways. It is that realm that is beyond imagination that presents the idea of beauty. That which is within each of us that is out of reach of anyone is our soul.

@Jacques De Molay He was the last survivor of those involved with the book. His odds of survival decrease dramatically if the broader operation had not been stopped. I was rereading it recently and this seemed a valid and relevant opinion. I am conflicted by past and current events because I have friends on both sides of these conflicts. People I love and respect; not because they are perfect but because they do not crumble under the weight of hardship. It would be amazing if the mentally and physically strong were likewise morally strong. However, those who benefit from others' strengths may not have any resemblance or association with those who took initial action. That's the trouble with romanticism. It highlights what we admire and overlooks the reality because direct experience always loses something in translation so that I may seem like a foolish little girl because a foolish little girl pretended she was writing to me (Anne Frank's initial frame of mind was to treat her journal as letters to an imaginary friend.) What's sinister about reading it as an adult is the realization that one or more operatives could have posed as that friend during that time to take them all out while toying with them for sadistic pleasure. But, maybe I am just a simple fool in need of some.... *Deliberately deeply drawn breath to sigh for effect* -um, correction... ;-)

Putin is absolutely the best leader for Russia right now at this time in history. The rest is moot. Who cares if it's called democracy or shmemocracy. The majority of Russian people right now are actually scared that anything should happen to Putin. How about that! That speaks volumes in itself. All the worry that was being expressed when he wanted to fly to South Africa or anywhere else. People were like please keep him in the country right now, we need him here. And then when it became clear he's not going, everyone was like.. phew.. I don't even know if this phenomenon has a precedent in history. I think Putin would LOVE nothing more than to be able to retire and play with his grandkids and dogs, but he senses that this is not his fate right now. And that's not coming from him, but from all corners of Russia, its people, its leadership.. Clearly as a result he believes it is God's providence for him right now, and he obeys. And works very hard, as everyone knows.. The sooner the west gets over the insanely stupid caricaturish cartoonish depiction of him in their heads, that has ZERO to do with reality, the sooner they will stop looking like idiots.

Here's the thing: prior to 2010 it _was_ illegal to donate more than.. ...$2500.00?...is that right?....at any rate, it was some incredibly small sum compared to the billions that are thrown around now. I do believe that exceeding that amount was a federal crime, 'influence buying' or some such. _But_ ....in 2010 the bright dimbulbs in Washington DC passed Citizens United, which opened the gates of hell by making corporations persons and real persons essentially subject to corporations. As an extra incentive for The Up And Coming Sociopaths Of America, unlimited campaign donations were now deemed legal. So, dig it...they just made what was a major crime ALL GOOD. What's next? Rape? Murder? Pedophilia? When the powerful and wealthy can just remove those nasty old rights of the people, remove constitutional and long standing legislation designed to prevent the America we now have, and preserve democracy, then _democracy_ , (pardon my descent into gutter language but it is ever so appropriate at times), is a fucking joke.

I don’t doubt you, but do you have any more info on this? From the UK it’s hard to know where to look. 2010 does seem to be where the rot really set into Western politics, with the political classes deciding to focus on appeasing only a small section of society, an impenetrable sense of entitlement growing in the political elites, with a commensurate loss of any ability to reflect on their failures. An explosion of corruption would help explain the chaos we’re seeing as responsible governance is replaced by a mosh pit of competing, grasping interests..

It was considered a first amendment right to give money, which is pretty astonishing when you think about it (particularly when you think about how other rights, like Roe v Wade, or Gay Marriage, were these convoluted arguments about implied right to privacy, and that because the constitution doesn't say anything about marriage explicitly then it must be delegated to the states, very weak when compared to the affirmative "This is a natural human right.") Remember Animal Farm? Everyone is equal- but some are more equal than others. That's citizen's united, to me.

That corporations are persons is such a vile idea....yet the SCOTUS sure went for it...because of course the SCOTUS is as owned as the rest of our government. The only fix for this is a massive push to return this country to the guiding principles of the Bill Of Rights,, Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. Under those founding documents, most of the legislation passed, or overturned (Smith Mundt 1948, Roe v Wade, to name two big ones) from 2010 to now would be immediately thrown out due to being, simply, _UNCONSTITUTIONAL_

I typically really like Joe Rogan, but this clip really makes me question how accurate his thinking is, especially on this topic. The idea that presidential term limits should be questioned is absolutely horrifying, and shows a massive lack of understanding in history and government. Yes, a benovelent, absolute ruler/leader for 20-30 years can be amazing for a society, but the problem is… “who comes next?” And the answer is that 9/10 of the following leaders become absolute despots and ruin their country and their society out of greed, fear, ignorance, and malice. Look at the Roman Empire, and compare Augustus to all the following emperors, and Marcus Aurelius. When you have a good emperor, all is well. But after that, look out, because it becomes literal hell on earth.

Totally agree. When you create a position like that, where power is extremely concentrated, then sure, you _might_ have 30 years of a “good and benevolent” (btw, what defines good and benevolent? Good and benevolent for you because you support them, but what about people with dissenting opinions?) ruler who wants the best for his country, but what about after that? What if someone who is deceptive and power hungry takes the throne? Or someone who you hate but the opposition loves? What happens to your ability to express dissent or protest? Well, take a look at the opposition leaders in Russia and China, or just look at history. The end up dead or imprisoned. It’s too much power in one individual and fundamentally goes against what the founders of America wanted, which was a diffusion of power across all levels to ensure that a balance could be maintained. Love their pods and they have plenty of strong points, but Joe and Lex are mostly out of their league when it comes to geopolitics. That being said, they are two individuals who are actively learning and trying to figure things out like all of us so it’s not to be held against them, but I think we often under-appreciate what we have because it’s assumed that it’s always been like that, when in reality and throughout history, it never has.

The "power corrupts" issue is addressed on one hand by limiting the power of a particular position. The problem is that people, for good or bad intent, seek to expand that power. Time is the factor that allows people to entrench their power as over time they find ways to get around or subvert their limits. Presidential power is well limited by two terms, but the political party is the mechanism in which entrenched power can endure. Currently this enduring power emanates from Congress. Term limits on the House and Senate would not only fill the trenches of Congress but also would curtail the power of the lobbyists who have very long-term relationships with various representatives and institutions. I would also suggest term limits on many bureaucratic positions.
@LetsGoGetThem2 жыл бұрын
Term limits are introduced to curtail people's power, and then they sell them as the opposite. Term limits are a limit to democracy, not an expansion of it. That is why it was introduced in the wake of FDRs real democratic supremacy which he got from his successful welfare programs which the wealthy of his party and the opposition did not like. His extended term was only enabled by his rule that benefitted the masses, the few rich people didnt like this very much. This is not a coincidence.

Isn't progress measured by funerals? Otherwise, we would have the same leaders for decades or longer, and doesn't a leader become either a tyrant or set in his / her ways the longer they stay in power. I completely agree with taking money out of politics, and how we need to remove the irresponsible idea of corporations being treated like citizens.

Are you implying the man that imprisoned his political opposition isn't a dictator?
@Stinktierchen2 жыл бұрын
@@seventeen9718 Yes I am. That doesnt make a leader a dictator! And I know its boring already... -> Assange was imprisoned by Putin of course ... There are everywhere political prisoners. Just the west is so freaking hipocritical pretending to live in a so called democracy! Putin isnt a dictator by its definition. He most certainly is authoritarian with lots of power. You can call him whatever you want, its you point of view and choice. But you are wrong nontheless.
@seventeen97182 жыл бұрын
@@Stinktierchen So you admit he's at least an Authoritarian... Who just so happens to be the richest man on earth because he's used his position to extract money from the country. Actively won't allow a fair election whilst he's removed term limits... Sure sounds like a dictator to me. Not gonna argue with you though, if you choose to be wilfully ignorant then that's on you.
@Stinktierchen2 жыл бұрын
@@seventeen9718 Hehehe.... wilfully ignorant. Says the ignorant, sorry. How do you know that he is the richest person on earth, from the same people who told you that he is a dictator? How do you know that elections are unfair in Russia? The people who told you that he is a dictator said so? I live in Germany and many Germans even like and support Putin. He is absolutely not your avarage democrat. But yeah right, we saw fair election in the US. And yeah right Trudeau seemed to be a decent guy. The difference between Russia and the so called west is simple. In Russia every damn person and child knows how the political elite functions. Nobody is under the illusion that there is pure and clean democracy in their country. But here in the west people still assume they live in democracies. They lie to themselfs and they believe it themselfs. I totally support Putin, he is no joke. But I know he loves his country and his people at least, with all its limitations. I know for a fact that Scholz and Bärbock and Habeck and many other German pliticians do NOT love Germans and Germany. As Putin said some motnhs ago in one of his speeches. "Politics may be dirty, yes. But not to that level" Yes.. Politics is a dirty game and most certainly Putin has made himself very dirty. But at least he isnt a god damn hipocrite like you westerns are.

Nice, instead of discussing Russia, the political system, the corruption, the war let's complain about the US system.

Imo the US at this period should prioritize fixing its own domestic issues. There's quite a bit of denial and hubris by neocons trying to project power at multiple fronts while the inhouse is crumbling. It's unsustainable.
